As expected, Mark has just gotten through his ritual of mumbling the contents of his suitcase to himself and is probably doing the "staring into space" thing downstairs right now. ;) He leaves for Japan tomorrow morning and he's VERY excited about the trip and all the eating he's going to do there! :D I just made him promise to have a great time and take A LOT of photos. Since we could probably never afford a trip like this on our own, it might be a LONG time before we'd be able to make it back there.

Tomorrow night I'm going out to dinner with Susan. She emailed me the other day to say that we should go out since Mark was going to be away - it was so thoughtful of her. :) We've decided to go to a great sushi place near my office and spend our time eating a ton of calories and talking about our men. :D It should be a fun evening. :D

And of course it wouldn't be Tuesday (or my journal) if I didn't gush just a little bit about Julie in "Commander In Chief" tonight. Yay for Julie getting a little larger role this episode - which was actually large enough to earn her one of those "Lurie-esque name labels." :) She looked stunning, as always - but the very first thing I noticed was - no southern accent! I think this is only the second time I've seen her in a performance where she didn't use her southern accent at all (the first was "Taken"). I remember being really surprised when I first met her that she didn't have an accent at all (Kevin says it only returns when she's calling home - or when she's really upset.)

This episode was a huge improvement over the pilot - and actually had a glimmer of something that I'd be interested in seeing again. And sad as it may be - the more I think about it, the more I realize that by Julie playing the secret service agent, it would be very hard for her to be put into a position where her character would be allowed to grow. :( I'm hopeful that as the series goes on there will be much more of a possibility for character development (especially since she seems to be sort of a mother figure and a confidant to Rebecca), and I hope the writers decide to explore that more. Anyone else see tonight's episode?

I'd better run so I can spend a little more time with Mark since he'll be gone for the next two weeks. :( Hope you all have a nice evening.

Wow, I'd crumble if Lily was gone for two weeks, then again, how does the saying go.... something about absence brings something or something or other... either way, good luck and I hope mark enjoys himself and is safe.

Thanks, Doug! And I know Mark will have a fantastic time! :D I'll just really miss him while he's gone! I don't think we've ever been apart for two weeks when we couldn't even talk to each to each other! :(

Since I met Lily more than five years ago, I only went one day with out seeing her, seriously, and I was on the phone with her that entire day....lol it's either love or it's pathetic, one of the two.... and yes, i didn't think about the phone thing, hope you can at least e mail.

I watched it, and I agree that it was better than the first episode. I was very afraid it would be overly formulaic, especially with the "evil" Speaker. I'm still not liking Sutherland's performance, but Geena Davis is growing on me. I liked the resolution on the vice-president.

It will be interesting to see how the show settles in.

I'm still not liking Sutherland's performance

I have to agree with you there - it's so 2 dimentional and cliche. :P Though I have to say that I was pretty surprised with some of the other characters... The Chief of Staff is growing on me and I already feel I know the characters more in these two episodes than at a similar point during "Line of Fire" (though the two were polar opposites when it came to the audiences it meant to attract).

Yay for Julie getting a bigger part this week, though! :D

There should also be an interesting contrast with WW related to parties: note how they played up the aspects of her being an independent, and thus not tied to any party mechanism.

I noticed that too - and noticed that they specifically didn't mention what party her VP choice belonged to (but I guess if I thought about it - he would have to be a Democrat since he was running against Mac's ticket in the general two and a half years earlier...)

It's interesting though, since it's pretty known where Lurie stands, politically. :)

I still have the two episodes on tape yet to watch...it'll be nice to *see* Julie again, because it's been almost two years since Line of Fire.

It's SO nice to see Julie back on my TV screen!! I do miss "Line of Fire," though! :( And sadly, her part in this show is a rather small one. :(

I hope that Mark has a terrific time! And that you aren't too lonely while he's gone. :( At least you have your fuzzy dog! :)

Awww, thanks Karen! I'm sure Mark will have a wonderful time in Japan - I can't wait to hear about all the wonderful food he eats there! :D And very true, Sydney and I will be spending a lot of time bonding in the next two weeks! :D

Too bad you cannot go to Japan with Mark. But that's nice of Susan to keep you company while he's gone. Sounds like it's gonna be a fun trip. Tell him not to have too much fun without you there. *wink*

I'm sure he'll have lots of fun :), but I really miss him! :( It's so nice that Susan asked me to go to dinner - and I'm also going out this weekend with my Mom - we're probably going to go out for dinner and catch a movie of something. :) Yay for great people who make me feel less lonely! :)
