I've never had the time or the patience to do this...
...until now. :)

As seen on alligatorandme's journal...

JANUARY

My big once a year Broadway trip - this time with my Mom. :) We saw a lot of shows, including Little Women, Fiddler on the Roof (Mom & I just adored Harvey Fierstein as Tevye!!), Brooklyn (big ol' sigh for my second favorite theatre Kevin... Kevin Anderson!), Wonderful Town (which was a lot less wonderful without Donna Murphy!) :P, and Avenue Q (which surprisingly, Mom liked a lot and laughed hysterically throughout the entire show) :) Photos and short recaps. :)

FEBRUARY

My Way.... *SIGH* Best darn theatre trip of my year! Not only did I love the cast (it was my first time meeting and speaking with Damon Kirsche and Tami Tappan Damiano who were both real sweethearts), but Nick directed it and Tom Griffin (who I adore) was the musical director! Saw it a total of 5 times the entire weekend: Feb 17th (the day Kevin and Damon were late for the show!), Feb 18th with lindasings, Feb 19th matinee with mdelrey, and the Feb 19th evening show with my friends Bobbie, Laura, and her two friends, and finally the Feb 20th evening show with karmastyx, careleswhisper, and rripley. :) One of the best theatre trips ever!! (And the show was pretty good too. ;) Photos. :)

MARCH

Nothing... Wow :(

APRIL

Sail Away - Probably one of the best vocal performances that I saw of Kevin's all year. He was VERY endearing as Johnny Van Meir, the younger love interest of Mary Van Arsdel. He was absolutey phenomenal in "Go Slow Johnny" - which has become one of my favorite songs that I've ever heard him sing. Saw it a total of 3 times that weekend - twice in Thousand Oaks and once in Long Beach. Though this trip was great performance-wise, the stage dooring left a little something to be desired... :( I was happy that I was able to see lindasings and meet my BWW.com friend, Steven at the shows, though. :)

It was during this trip that I also saw Climbing Everest at the Colony Theatre... The cast was talented, but I felt almost as if it was a chore to sit through... :P

MAY

Applause - Probably one of the strongest acting performances of Kevin's all year. He was romantic, very funny and charming, he even exploded with anger in several scenes (I LOVE his "angry"... and dare I say it... but, he's SO INCREDIBLY hott when he's angry!!) *hides head in shame* ;) It was on this trip that I realized what a sweetheart Veanne Cox is - I loved her. I saw the show a total of three times that weekend,... it would've been four had THIS not happened... Got to see lindasings, Steven, and Bobbie for these shows! :) Photos. :)

JUNE

Nothing. :(

JULY

My Guys & Dolls trip! I'd seen Kevin play Sky before, but nothing prepared me for the actual show - which I adored from start to finish! All the performances were brilliant, the dance sequences were choreographed beautifully, the entire show was SUCH a joy to see. Nick directed it and it was the trip that I really became an admirer of Bets' talent and got to know her (and meet her husband Steve). I saw it a total of 4 times - and got to see my East Coast friends, Pat, Kevin, Sharon, Terry, and Laura and I got to see careleswhisper, karmastyx, and rripley for a couple of the performances. :) My RECAP. Photos. :)

I also saw a couple of other wonderful shows while I was in LA that trip. I met lindasings to see a wonderful and very touching performance of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir - which I loved! James Barbour was wonderful and Lynn Wintersteller was just beyond words... what a great show that was! :) My impressions of the show.

And finally, to break up my G&D viewing that weekend, I went to see Once on This Island at Fullerton Civic Light Opera. I'm not sure if it was the staging, or the acting, or maybe even the slick, professionalism of Guys & Dolls that I'd become accustomed to, but I didn't enjoy the show at all. I was glad I saw it, but it was certainly not my favorite...

AUGUST

Nothing...

SEPTEMBER

Kevin in concert with California Philharmonic Orchestra (September 10th) - Beautiful, gorgeous concert... SO worth the price of admission just to hear him sing "Bring Him Home" -- BIG, gigantic *SIGH*. My RECAP. Photos. :)

The Full Monty at Diamond Head Theatre (September 29th). What a surprisingly heartfelt production this was! Mark & I loved it!! My RECAP.

OCTOBER

Gasp! Nothing...

NOVEMBER

Saw The Grand Tour at the Colony Theatre twice, Nov 11th when I got to meet cahwyguy and his lovely family, then on Nov 13th when I got to meet Dianne, Corliss, and Sumi who were avid fans of Kevin! :) The show was very heartfelt and such a great showcase for Jason Graae's talent!

Saw The Drowsy Chaperone on Nov 14th and it was quite possibly the funniest, most entertaining shows that I've seen all year. :) VERY innovative and heartfelt - I loved every minute of it. :) My RECAP.

The Harold Arlen Concert on Nov 14th (eve) was wonderful - if only to hear Kevin sing a glorious rendition of "Anywhere I Hang My Hat is Home." *SIGH* I got to see Julie Ann, Sharon from Talkin' Broadway, and I met a HUGE fan of Kevin's as well. It was a very nice evening. :) My RECAP.

Saw White Christmas in San Francisco on Nov 16th. If it weren't for the people sitting next to me, and the effort it took me to hail a cab back to my hotel, I probably would've enjoyed it more. :) It was a cute show, though! :) My RECAP.

Open Window at the Pasadena Playhouse was next on Nov 18th. The best part of the evening was eating dinner with lindasings and jaywalking with her to the theatre. ;) My RECAP.

Nov 19th, I saw Bark! at the Coast Playhouse in Hollywood. It was a cute show, but the best part was Kristi who had the lead in the show. I also saw The Wild Party at the Blank Theatre that night. Wonderful, disturbing show with great performances. Loved Julie Dixon Jackson in the role of Mae! My RECAP of both shows.

Finally on Nov 20th, I saw The King & I at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach. It was a great show - and Daniel Guzman's performance was very charming as the King. :) My RECAP.

DECEMBER

Nothing... Mark & I forgot to go to Aladdin! :(

Surprisingly it totals up to 34 performances, 7 round trip tickets, and over 45,000 frequent flier miles... Here's hoping that 2006 brings as many wonderful theatre memories as I've been fortunate enough to experience in 2005! Big, happy *SIGH*. :)

You got to travel seven out of the twelve months!!! How amazing and lucky is that? :) We (me, Laur, and Rog) had such a good time w/you the two times we got to join you. :)

Here's hoping that 2006 brings as many wonderful theatre memories!!! :D

I do admit that I've been so blessed to have traveled last year as much as I have (and that I've been able to see such incredible theatre) :) Thanks for coming with me to see MY WAY and GUYS & DOLLS! :) I loved seeing you guys there! :D

Thanks!! I just feel so lucky to have gotten to travel as much as I did this year! :)

Last year I couldn't even do this because though I traveled a bit (3 times to NYC and once to LA), it was mainly to see one show, many times! Haha! This meme would've only read "Thoroughly Modern Millie" about 10 times and how boring is that? ;)
carush_girl on January 1st, 2006 01:57 pm (UTC)
I just think that is so awesome...

As for "Thoroughly Modern Millie", Ive only seen the one on tv with Julie Andrews. Which I loved. Its so funny to think that movie is as old as me - it came out the same yr I was born...

45,000 miles! What, is that around the Earth twice or something like that? (don't know the fact at all, hee hee)

So glad and super jealous that you could see Kevin perform so many different occasions. I wish I were that lucky. I hope Kevin knows how lucky he is to have such a devoted fan.

Haha!! At least I earned several free trips to the West Coast (which I fully intend to use up in 2006. :)

Kevin is constantly working - he's SUCH a workaholic! I haven't seen half of the things he's done this year (which is all fine and good since I can live vicariously through friends) :) I'd have to be there constantly if I didn't want to miss any of his performances. ;)

I'm glad that you have so many wonderful theatre memories and also that you shared them with us. And I too hope that 2006 will bring as many such wonderful memories. :)

*Hugs*

Thanks so much, Sabine! :) I'm just thankful that I have a job that allows me the flexibility to travel as much as I do. :)

Big *HUGS* to you, I hope you're having a nice weekend. :)

That's such a fun idea! Your list is very impressive, btw. :)

I'd be so curious to see your list! Sadly my list consists of a few shows that I've seen MANY times. ;) I love to see things again and again - especially when I like the cast or creative team... I always see something different in every performance and that's one of the things I love about live theatre. :)

Wow! That's quite a list!! :)
