Oh my gosh - it's freezing!!! Brrr!
I know that when I left Hawaii, I was a little disappointed that the weather was so mild and that the temperatures would probably only dip into the 40's at its coldest... I wanted it to be a little colder than my office in air conditioning at work. So I secretly wished for colder weather. Well, it must've worked because today it was freezing! The temperature was about 21 degrees, but I couldn't even begin to guess what it was with the windchill... BRRR! Be careful what you wish for, they say... ;)

We did some last minute gift shopping for friends and relatives today and ended up drinking smoothies and eating sandwiches at Say Cheese! again. :) I had an apple / strawberry smoothie and though it was REALLY cold outside, I couldn't help but drink it all, it was so delicious! :) Mark had a protein smoothie - which he thoroughly enjoyed. :)

We saw two shows today, Spamalot at the Shubert and Rent at the Nederlander. :) As we were waiting to be let in to Spamalot, it was freezing!! We were standing in line next to Shubert Alley and it was like a wind tunnel!! The wind was so strong that I literally thought I might blow away! :P The cold was so biting and bitter that it went right through all my layers of clothing and my thick wool overcoat. I really thought I was going to get frostbite if they didn't let us in when they did. :P

Spamalot was okay... I enjoyed it, but the only person I really wanted to see wasn't in! :( No Christopher Sieber! :( It seems that all weekend we were having bad understudy luck! His understudy wasn't nearly as funny as Chris was in even the cast recording, it was a complete and total let down. :( And I LOVE Lauren Kennedy and I think her voice is gorgeous, but sadly I didn't feel that she was able to project enough to be really effective in some of the songs (i.e. "Find Your Grail"). The new King Arthur was fine, and I didn't really mind that I was missing Tim Curry. Christian was great and funny and I was so glad he was in, as was David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria. My only sadness was no Chris Sieber! :(

I enjoyed Rent SO much more than I had the first time I saw it in 2001. :) A lot of my enjoyment had to do with Will Chase... He was wonderful as Roger. He gave him the right amount of anger and bitterness he needed without over-doing it. And his voice... I'd never had the pleasure of hearing Will Chase sing live, but... oh my gosh... when he opened his mouth and let out that first note, I was actually in awe... from there I knew that I'd be enjoying this performance. :) I REALLY liked Matt Caplan as Mark and though he doesn't have the typical "Mark" looks (he was a little too athletically built) his voice was glorious and his acting was terrific. :) All in all I really enjoyed it. :)

So ends my theatre trip here in NYC... :( It seemed to have gone so fast. :( Mark & I are already making plans to come back sometime in May... We have to see Jersey Boys, Barefoot in the Park (which has always been my favorite Neil Simon play!!!), and Pajama Game. :) We leave for our 12 hour flight home at around noon tomorrow. Hope you all have a nice evening. :) Big *HUGS* and thanks to all of you for putting up with my travel entries all week long! :) Big *HUGS* to all of you!

Yes, I'm weak... I was freezing today!! In my defense, even people FROM NY were saying that it was freezing! :P

Mark hated to admit it, but he was extremely cold too!!

And we were both shocked to find that it had snowed over night! :)

At Toys R Us in Times Square, I found a bunch of dogs that looked like Sydney!
Wah! I really miss my fuzzy dog! :(

Mark had such fun looking at all the Star Wars toys!

He ended up buying these cute M&M figures dressed as Grievous and Obi Wan. :)

Not the nicest picture of us, but we thought we'd die in the all the cold and wind waiting for Spamalot! :P
You can't see it in the picture, but Mark was holding my hat down with his other hand so it didn't fly away!

Awww, thanks Rita! :) The whole trip seemed to go by too fast - there's so many more places that I wanted to try to go to eat and so many shows I want to see. :(

Thanks for the nice travel thoughts! 12 hours on a plane... Blech! :P

LOVE THESE PICTURES! LOOK AT THE SNOW. I'VE NEVER BEEN TO THE SNOW!

TEll me you got that Syd. stuffed animal! I miss the fuzzy dog too! When you get home, give her a extra hug for me!

Thanks, Stacey! We were so surprised to see that it had snowed over night! :) I remember the first time I saw snow fall, I ran out and ohhh-ed and ahhhh-ed at the sky... People around me knew I was from Hawaii. :)

Sadly I didn't get that Sydney stuffed animal! :( I didn't think it would fit into my suitcase! And thanks so much, I just gave Sydney a great big *HUG* for you! :)

Thanks, Smitha! :) We were so happy that it snowed overnight, but not too happy about the 20 degree weather! ;)

Winter has finally arrived in the Northeast! When we woke up this morning, it was 4 degrees, so I imagine NYC was quite cold with the wind whipping through those buildings. When I was there last year at this time, the windchill was 20 below 0!

WOW!! That's REALLY cold!! I told my co-workers that it was 17 degrees when I left and they didn't believe me (after all, I was shivering last week in the 40 degree air conditioning!) ;)

I'm sorry that Chris wasn't in. :( Still, I'm glad you got to see Christian and David! I love them both oh-so-much, especially Christian. I think he's ridiculously talented. Did you see him as Jimmy?

I'm so jealous you're going to see Pajama Game! It's one of my favorite shows so you're going to have to tell me all about it.

It sounds like you guys had an AMAZING trip, sans some understudy problems. =)

I was so sad that Christopher Sieber wasn't in! :( :( But Christian was hysterical, especially as the gay prince. :) And I loved David Hyde Pierce!! :D And I did get to see Christian as Jimmy in Millie - he was always so funny! :)

I hope we'll be able to see "Pajama Game." :) It was so sad that I was missing it this trip by only a couple of weeks! :( And we had SO much fun in NYC! I can't wait to go back!! :)

Wow, you certainly both look wrapped up. Ooooh, snow!

We were, but we were still freezing!! :P

To me, 21 degrees is cold and I don't think that you are weak, not at all! Here it's 35 degrees and I still was freezing today evening. :) Nothing against the dogs but, for my eyes, Sydney looks much better than them. :)

I'm sorry that this trip already did end but I'm very happy that you had such a nice time. And thank you for your posts and the photos. You gave me the possibility to join your trip and I truly enjoyed it. :)

Hope you have a safe flight back home! Big *hugs* to you, Sheri. :) And please give Sydney also a hug from me.

Awww, thanks Sabine!! And Sydney thanks you too for that sweet compliment. :)

We had such a wonderful time in NY, hopefully we'll be able to go back soon. Thank you so much for putting up with all my travel posts, Sabine - you're the best! :)

And I just gave Sydney a great big *HUG* for you!! :) Please give one to Micki and Garry for me :) and I hope you're having a nice week. *HUGS*

It looks VERY cold...it was soo cold in Toronto yesterday, too! :) I'm sorry you guys didn't get to see Christopher Sieber. :( But I'm glad you had such a great trip! Thanks for all of the wonderful updates along the way, and the fantastic pictures. I hope you had a safe flight home!
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on January 18th, 2006 08:03 am (UTC)
Haha! It was probably much colder in Toronto... Mark & I are SO not used to the cold that we were dying when the temperature dipped to 30 degrees! ;) Thanks so much for all your comments, Karen!
