Taken off guard...
Just wanted to do a quick update... Mark & I just got off the plane and went to the vet's office to pick up Sydney. She was SO happy to see us that she kept making little barking noises and kept trying to jump into my arms. It was REALLY nice to see her - we missed her so much!

Unfortunately the day wasn't all good news... Apparently the vet's assistant told us that while they were giving Sydney her annual check up they discovered a small (dime-sized) lump under her skin on her chest. :( We have to call our regular vet today to follow up to schedule an appointment with a specialist to have it checked... The vet's assistant said that it was HOPEFULLY a fatty tumor and not cancerous. Please think good thoughts for my fuzzy dog... she's already been through so much in her fuzzy little life! :(

Sorry for the downer of a post, but I worry a lot about Sydney... she's my baby, after all! Thanks again to everyone who sent over sweet and wonderful wishes for me yesterday! I will update soon on the marvelous day I had and how all of you made turning 36 not so bad. Big *HUGS* to all of you!

Oh no! Please let us know as soon as you know something. I will be praying hard for her tonight.

The dog we had when I was growing up, an English Bull Terrier, had a tumor like that and it turned out to be lupus (the skin kind). We all laughed that I had the same disease as the dog!

Thanks so much for the good wishes, Amanda! We're hoping that it's nothing serious - poor Sydney's already been through so much! :(

And I wasn't aware that dogs could get lupus too!
irisheyes77 on February 1st, 2006 07:12 pm (UTC)
I know! It was discoid lupus, not systemic lupus like I have, but it was still really weird!

Thank you so much, Carrie! And thanks for the *HUGS* for Sydney - she really enjoyed them! Hopefully it'll turn out to be something minor, the poor thing has been through so much already! :( *HUGS* to you!

Thinking possitive..that is thing.
I am sure it will be ok. She is lucky to have such a good dog mom.
Keeping her in my good thoughts.
Keep us informed.

Re: Thinking possitive..that is thing.
Thanks so much for your positive thoughts, Ilene!! About two years ago Sydney got very ill and all the vets thought her time had come, but we never gave up hope that she would get better - and she did. :) Hopefully this will turn out to be nothing, she's already been through so much already! :( Thanks for your comments.

Thanks so much, Jami! How is Chip doing?
Jami: My dog Chip.person958 on February 2nd, 2006 02:56 am (UTC)
Chip is doing fine. His fur isn't growing back much at all yet and he's still on the steroids, but he's fine. He goes back to the vet soon and hopefully he'll be done with the steroids.

Oh, Sheri, I really hope Sydney's okay! I know how important she is to you, and as a fellow dog lover, I know how scary stuff like that can be until you know for certain that everything's alright.

If it helps, our dog has a few lumps under her fur and the doctor checked them out and they were nothing. I'm sure she'll be okay.

I'm sending good thoughts your way!! *hugs*
Sheri: Sydney - couchshutterbug93 on February 1st, 2006 04:08 pm (UTC)
Thanks so much for all your good thoughts for Sydney, Karen! We're trying to remain positive and hope that it's just a fatty tumor like the vet's assistant said. She doesn't seem to be in pain or anything so I guess that's a good sign.

Thanks again for all your good thoughts, Karen!! Big *HUGS* and much love to you!

Welcome back, but I'm so sad to hear about possible bad news-hopefully good news about your puppy. Poor, poor Sydney. And poor you - it's too much worrying. :(
Sheri: Sydney - couchshutterbug93 on February 1st, 2006 04:11 pm (UTC)
Thanks, Gill - It's a shame that poor Sydney is going to have to go right back to the vet this weekend! :( Hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing like the vet's assistant said. We're going to try to see a specialist on the other side of the island this weekend to check it out.
Rachelreelcowgirl on February 1st, 2006 02:36 am (UTC)
Of course Sydney is your baby! I understand completely. I really enjoyed my visit to the Colorado State University vet teaching hospital this weekend because it seems like they really emphasize the animal-human link in their teaching. After all, dogs, cats, horses, and other animals are not just pets!

I wouldn't worry too much about Sydney. *Many* dogs have small fatty tumors, and it is a very simple surgery to take them off. I have never seen a biopsy come back with bad results on a dog that we took a tumor from--not that that means it doesn't happen, but it is rare. Hope that makes you feel better! :)
Sheri: Sydney is...shutterbug93 on February 1st, 2006 04:15 pm (UTC)
Rachel, I knew if anyone would understand how I felt, it would be you! Thanks so much for the great information about the other cases of this that you've seen - it does make me feel more relieved to know that there are other dogs who have this and that it isn't terribly dangerous for them... We're probably going to see a specialist this weekend to have it checked. She doesn't seem to be in any kind of pain or anything so that seems like a good sign.

Thanks so much for your comments!! *HUGS*
