Work that I actually enjoy! :)
Spent most of my day working on various trial pages for the website my co-worker wanted me to put together for her husband's portrait studio. :) It took me quite a while (not to mention several airplane rides) to come up with a layout that I didn't completely hate. ;) Then I spent the majority of the day today changing around the graphics and color scheme a little to give them a bit of a choice (not much, unfortunately...) :P

The pages are not ready to go live yet AT ALL - the links don't go anywhere and the portrait that I used on the page is just a placeholder for a photo that they're going to send me (the one I used is REALLY small and I took it off their current site and enlarged it so it's VERY pixilated...) I'd like to try to email my co-worker the links to the trial pages this weekend, but I was wondering if I could ask you all a favor? Which links should I send her? And which version, if any, do you prefer?

Here are the two I was thinking of sending them:

http://www.shutterbug93.net/acetrial01.html
http://www.shutterbug93.net/acetrial03.html

I did end up creating one in their old color scheme, just in case (though I'm not as fond of it...):

http://www.shutterbug93.net/acetrial04.html

And I'm really not fond of this one, but I created it just in case they thought the first two were bland...

http://www.shutterbug93.net/acetrial02.html

The one thing I ALWAYS seem to have a problem with is the color scheme on my web sites... I usually want them to look sort of subtle, but they usually end up looking a little drab. :( If anyone has any suggestions for ways that I can improve any of the above, I'd gladly welcome them! :)

And finally, here's a link to their OLD site that someone else created, if anyone is interested:

http://www.aceportraitstudio.com/door/

Thanks so much in advance for taking a look and for all your help!! :) Hope you're all having a nice weekend! :)

Welp I like the 2nd one - http://www.shutterbug93.net/acetrial03.html
Yes you did stick some basic colors with a splash of earthyness. Gosh Im never good at welp what do you call it - critiquing.....

Thanks so much for taking a look at the pages and for your opinion! :) I think I'll probably try to work on that one a bit before I send the link to my co-worker. :) Thanks so much for your comments!

Nice job on the websites for ACE Portrait Studio :) I really liked this one :) Let us know which one they chose! :) Have a nice weekend, Sheri!

Thanks so much for your comments, Kristen!! The one you chose is actually the one I prefer as well. :) I will definitely let everyone know which one they chose. :) Thanks so much for taking a look! :)

The second one you created is better because of the camera and not film.
Most places are not using film anymore but have gone digital and even if they haven't yet most customers would get the impression that they were behind the times with the film one.
I think you should make the colors in it a little more to the sepia and not quite so dark.
Whatever you do..it looks good. Do get a larger pic for the example...for sure..and it should be their very best work or a good example of it.
Ok, did I go too far?
Sheri: Sherishutterbug93 on March 5th, 2006 04:50 am (UTC)
VERY good point about the camera vs the film... I hadn't really thought about that!! And I will try experimenting with different color schemes to lighten it up a bit before I send the link. :) And I'm still awaiting the picture from my co-worker for the site - the one that's there is just a placeholder for the site's shell. :)

Thanks SO much for your opinions, Ilene!! I REALLY appreciate them!! I always want to try to improve my sites and get other's opinions. :D

The site is looking good! I like what you did so far. Great job!

Thanks so much for taking a look at them, Rayna! I really need to take some PS classes (can you teach me?) :)
Carecareleswhisper on March 5th, 2006 08:42 am (UTC)
I think all of them are wonderful! :D You always do such a nice job. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd probably pick the second one. The camera on top looks sharp! The film ones are great too, but for some reason it reminded me of movies lol. I'm not sure why though. If they picked any of those though, they'll be picking a fabulous design no matter what! You are so good at what you do. *hugs*

Let us know which one they pick please. :)

Awwww, Carrie you're so sweet! Thanks so much for taking a look and for taking the time to give me your opinions about them! I've been changing the fonts a bit (from an excellent suggestion below) and I think that I'll try one or two more graphics and color schemes before I send the links to my co-worker. Hopefully they'll like at least one of them! Thanks for all your kind comments and I'll definitely let everyone know which one they picked. :) *HUGS* to you!
Meredythbroadway_rose on March 5th, 2006 03:36 pm (UTC)
I like all of them but the first one was especially striking- I like the colors and I like the film at the top instead of the camera lens I think. You are amazing, Sheri!
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 5th, 2006 06:09 pm (UTC)
Awww! Thanks Meredyth!! You're so sweet! Thanks so much for taking a look at them and for your kind comments. :) I think as I was working on them, I was a little partial to the first one too... I've changed it around a little (took a great suggestion below about the font) and will hope that they like at least one of the designs. :) Hope you're doing well! Big *HUGS* to you!

I'm going to be difficult and say I like the camera in number 4 but the colours in number 3 :) (numbers based on your file names)

also wondering if maybe a font like Arial or Helvetica would look a little more professional - the pixelation really sticks out with the Times you've got there and it's annoying me since the text is so prominent.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 5th, 2006 06:01 pm (UTC)
Agreed about the text! I usually design all my sites in Arial - I don't know why I chose Times Roman this time around. Thanks so much for taking a look and for giving me your opinions! :)

Thanks for showing your work. :) To me, you did a very good job and it's not easy to say which one I like better. But, in the end this one - http://www.shutterbug93.net/acetrial01.html - caught my eyes. I do like the colors more and it looks softer, to me. I can see the point "behind the times" but I would prefer the film, it looks discreeter to my eyes. But, that is only me. :)

And now I'm curious to hear which one they choose. :)

Hope you have a nice Sunday, Sheri. Big *hugs* to you.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 5th, 2006 06:04 pm (UTC)
Thanks so much for taking a look, Sabine! :) And I actually prefer the first one too - it's the first one I designed with that particular layout in mind and I was hoping the photo at the top would say "photography" but not be really blatant about it. :) Thanks for your comment. :)

Hope you're having a nice Sunday! Big *HUGS* to you!

I love the colors of acetrial02, but love the layout of acetrial03. I do however think if you sent them all four they are bound to be happy with them all. I really like your simple but lovely work. Sometimes all you need is a classic look to sell a potential customer.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 6th, 2006 01:58 am (UTC)
Thanks so much for taking a look, Laura and for your comments! :) I'm just hoping they'll find one of four to their liking. :)
I'm so cool too bad I'm a loser: (london) tubeaudienceawaits on March 5th, 2006 07:33 pm (UTC)
I like the first two the best as well! And yours are so much nicer than what they already have. ;)
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 6th, 2006 02:00 am (UTC)
Thanks so much for taking the time to look at them, Gill! :) I'm going to fix them up a bit and send the links tomorrow morning - hopefully they'll like one of them! :D Thanks so much for all your kind comments. :)

I really like the top graphic and the font of "Ace Portrait Studio" on version 3...but I like the colour scheme of version 1. They all look really great, Sheri! Nice work! I'm sure they'll love anything you show them. :)
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 6th, 2006 02:02 am (UTC)
Awww, thanks Karen! You're so sweet! Thanks so much for taking the time to look at them. :) I'm planning on sending them the links tomorrow morning and I'm hoping that they'll find one that they like. :) Thanks so much for your comments. :)

Your design look so much better, Sheri. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for taking a look, Angela!! And thanks for your sweet comments! I hope my co-worker likes them! :)

I'm late on this. I've been hibernating! =p

I like the 2nd one the best:
http://www.shutterbug93.net/acetrial03.html

They all look great, though. So much better than the original site!

Did you study this in college? You're so good at it. I never took any computer classes, but I wish I did. I really want my Idina page to look cool, but I'm limited.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 8th, 2006 08:45 am (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look, Andrea!! And for your nice comments. :) And I didn't study this web stuff in college at all. I just love doing it. :) And I don't think you have to change your Idina page at all - it looks fabulous!!
