Seriously, no April Fool's joke here.
This is seriously heartbreaking. Not only because I know so many people who work there, who suddenly no longer have jobs, but because Aloha has been a part of my life and a part of Hawaii since I can remember...

On a MUCH, MUCH lesser note, because it totally pales in comparison to the above... I lost over 200,000 FF miles... which are the breaks, I guess.

Edited to add: This article about the last flight touching ground in Honolulu is heartbreaking as well...

I was so sad to hear that Aloha was not going to be flying anymore. :( I feel so sad for the people who worked for that airline... and those of you who had all the miles and or flights booked.

It's so heartbreaking! 1,900 employees - and they just found out over the weekend, what a shocker for them! :( It's sad too because Aloha has been such a part of the islands for SOOO long - I can't imagine them not being around anymore. :(

I flew to Hawaii on Aloha... back in 1988. And it's one of the things that I think of when I think of Hawaii.

Wow, that's so horrible - for everyone involved!

I can't imagine what it must be like for all the workers! :( I feel so bad for them! :( Or the passengers who flew Aloha and were mid-trip during this and can't come home... It's just... heartbreaking. :(

I was very sad to read the announcement on Sunday. I remember Aloha from the days I was out in the islands, and I always am sad when a storied carrier dies, especially at the hands of a vicious upstart (go!). I'm sorry to hear about your FFM.

My first memories of traveling to visit my relatives on the Big Island were of Aloha Airlines and the nice flight attendants. In fact, my first trip alone - without my parents - the summer I stayed with my grandparents when I was 11 was booked through Aloha and they treated me VERY well.

They've been such a huge part of Hawaii (and my life) - I'm just so sad that they won't be around anymore.

It's so sad - the end of an era... :( I know many people who work for the airlines and I know travel in Hawaii will not be the same. :(

That is really sad.

I'm sorry for those that last their jobs...and those of you that lost their miles. :(

I'm so sad for all the people who lost their jobs too! :( Some have been with the airlines for YEARS! :(

I know!! It's so heartbreaking! :( Aloha Airlines has been such a part of the islands for as long as I can remember - I can't imagine them not being around. :( And the poor people who work there! :(

How sweet of your hubby!! I will always remember flying Aloha to all those Jaycee conventions (And Mark Nakashima would pass out his flight coupons so we could work at Springfest in Hilo each year...) *SIGH*

OH MY GOSH! I saw it too! I was like WHAT on Sunday! I liked Aloha a lot, it's better than Hawaiian. Sorry. LOL

Nope, not only you lost all that miles my friend did too. I don't know if my Dad is going to look into about getting my mom's miles, since it's on the FHB cc.

I used to fly Aloha ALL the time... :( And then they got rid of their Burbank route without telling anyone, then their red eye flights... And sadly, I stopped flying them for awhile. It's still VERY sad for me, though because I grew up flying on Aloha to see my relatives on the Big Island all the time. They're such a BIG part of our islands... :(

I had that FHB Aloha MC as well...

I really liked Aloha! Their service was better from what I noticed. Maybe it was just me? LOL

Was it Tongg, I don't know his first name, the started Aloha? I know one of the sons. Gee, it's soooo sad.

Whoa, I didn't even know about this. So who would be the carrier for the inter island flights?? I'm sorry for people who lost their jobs.

It sounds like it still flies to West Coast though? And you cannot use your mileage for the trips?
Sheri: Sydney - couchshutterbug93 on April 2nd, 2008 06:27 am (UTC)
We are left with only two inter-island carriers - Hawaiian and go! airlines. I feel so bad for the people who lost their jobs - it was so sudden...

They've stopped flights to the West Coast as well - all passenger flights, really. They're still running their cargo flights (I believe) but all of us with miles, etc have lost them.
