In NYC and another puppy update (with photos!!)
I FINALLY made it to NYC!! :) After what amounted to 12 hours of flight time and a total of 18 or so hours of actual travel time, I'm here in the city!! :)

I've already dropped off my opening night gift at the Hirschfeld for Kevin, gone to Green Symphony for an INCREDIBLE veggie lunch, and spent way too much money at the Food Emporium! :) All in all, I've only been in the city for half a day, but it's already been quite blissful! Jessica and Nicole don't arrive until Saturday, but I'm meeting waytoocoolrev to see "In The Heights" tonight - I'm SOOOO excited!! :)

Another VERY exiciting part of my day was once I was able to finally log on to the internet connection here (which is sketchy at best...) I received an email from the breeder with photos of the girl and boy puppies!!!! :) :) :)

And I thought I'd share!

This is the little male with the CUTE face - isn't he precious???

This is the same little boy..... He is the cutest thing!!

This is the little girl that he thinks he might not keep... he's not sure yet... She's adorable too.

Edited to add two more photos of the little boy puppy!

This is the little boy, too! SOOO cute!!

Obviously seeing them both makes it that much harder for us to decide. Any thoughts? Any opinions you could share would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm off to catch up a bit with all of you before my internet connect gives out on me. Big HUGS to all!! :) :)

they are both adorable! :)

You might just have to rely on a binary metallic decision device to make your choice. :)
Sheri: Sydney Dogshutterbug93 on September 19th, 2008 05:18 am (UTC)
I know!! I adore them both!!

I just don't know how Mark & I will decide!
Kayleakaylea on September 18th, 2008 09:07 pm (UTC)
I know that no one can make the decision for you, that's up to both you and mark but, I would have to agree with everyone's comments here. The first pic of the little boy is adorable! The little girl is cute too but the boy made my heart melt. :)

I am in fuzzy wuzzy wuv with the boy puppy's face. I love the little boy's coloring. Puppy girl is adorable too though... I couldn't decide. I'd have to let the puppy choose me. :D

The little boy is too precious ! With one exception -- Marshall the Pembroke Welsh Corgi -- I've only had girl puppies; Marsh was really active and hyper, but I think that was more the breed and not the gender !

Have fun in NYC !

Mark & I don't have experience with male dogs so we don't really know what to expect. I think we initially wanted a female because Sydney was such a sweet dog. :)
intootjeintootje on September 22nd, 2008 10:06 pm (UTC)
I have had a sheltie male and he was a very easy one for a male. But of course, some other male might be less easy.

None of my males have been castrated. Yes, it can be pretty tiring when some female in the neighbourhood is in heat. But for the rest, I don't find it difficult at all. I also don't plan to castrate Into or Tarmo for other than medical reasons. But I guess in the US it is more common to castrate male if not used for breeding? Well, in fact Into has been used twice and who knows, maybe Tarmo will be used also later on.

I don't know, for any reason I was so sleepy that I felt asleep on the couch the last two evenings so I only saw your post just now.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! I especially loved the first and the last one but both puppies (can it be that the little boy is a bit darker than the girl?) look adorable and it would be difficult for me to come to a decision. As far for differences between boys and girls, I'm not sure ... I know people who have trouble (whining, running away) with their boys (no Shelties) when other girls are in season but I never had it. Neither Lauser nor Asko were castrated but they both behaved always well. Also, I know that Kitty no longer will listen to her owner when she is in season but runs to every other dog hoping it is a boy.

When we thought about to get Asko (not a good picture but you can see him here), somebody told us not to do it because he seemed to be shy (he did not really like to come but tended to hide under the fire trees) but he grew up to a wonderful dog. While he was reserved to strangers, it was not so that he was afraid of them or that he tried to bite but simply ignored them. In the same way he handled those dogs he did not like when we met them. He also was the smallest puppy among his siblings but I can't say that he, because of that, was more ill than Micki or Lauser.

You know Lauser so I don't think I've to tell much about him. :) Still, looking back I think he was the most complicated dog from all of them. Especially after he was bitten for three times it was difficult with other boys. And while he loved his family and friends it was never easy with strangers. Perhaps it was part of his heredity or it was me (missing strength or so), I don't know. At any case nothing really worked to change his behavior and I know that I'll be very careful and think twice before I once more get a puppy whose mother I can't touch when I visit the breeder.

Micki, well like I said when I got her nearly four years ago now it was her who chose me. :) She changed a lot and is, I think, in the middle between Lauser and Asko. She is reserved to strangers and will ignore most of them but bark or even growl at some of them (especially men wearing dark clothes). She has a very well developed social behavior, better than Asko or Lauser, in regard to other dogs. Of all of them it's Micki who wants to protect me most. And she seems to be unforgiving - my father's wife still can't touch her.

Now I babbled so much and I don't think that it's helpful in any way. I think that you and Mark and the puppy will come to a decision what is just the right for all of you. :)

Hope you are having a great time in NYC! Big hugs to you, Sheri!
Sheri: Sydney - happyshutterbug93 on September 19th, 2008 01:38 pm (UTC)
Awwww, Sabine! Thank you SO MUCH for your comments!! I love to hear about Asko, you don't speak of him often, but it always warms my heart when you do. :) Sydney was the runt of her litter and so is this little boy. He's MUCH smaller than the rest and seemed a bit reserved at first, but the breeder says has a VERY sweet demeanor. Mark & I have a hard decision to make!! Thanks SO MUCH for all your help, Sabine!! HUGS!!!

Ok so here are my thoughts... since you asks....

Both puppies are SO cute. I think I like the boy the best. Why... I don't know... we've always only had boy puppies so I think I'm parcial to them.
Sheri: Sydney Dogshutterbug93 on September 19th, 2008 09:44 pm (UTC)
Mark & I really love the little boy puppy! They're both really SO cute, though!!

I went to visit my mom this weekend, and the SPCA was out at the mall we were at. Well we found a SWEET FUZZY boarder Collie (sp) 8 weeks old up for adoption on Saturday.
Well my mom called them Saturday night to see if he was still for adoption but they were closed. So she is going to call today. HA!

OMG

So cute! I love the first picture! Well, everything else too... but the first one is just so special. But... I would take any of them, to be honest (if I didn't have 2 Lappies already).

I really hope that you can finally get a puppy. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Oh my goodness Sheri!!! It just doesn't get any cuter! They are both darling. And the puppy breath! :)

Personally, I'm more inclined to go with a female, because I can't stand when a male dog goes around lifting his leg on everything, but oh my goodness they are both just so darn sweet. Good luck! :)
