Wedding planning fun. :)
Just got back from a great shopping day with my friend Susan! We went looking for dresses for her upcoming wedding and thankfully we were able to find dresses that she really liked. :) She's wearing a traditional Japanese kimono for her actual wedding ceremony, but she needed a dress to wear for her reception. She finally decided on these two dresses:

She was trying to decide between the lavender and the creme colored dress (in the same style) for her and decided to go with the lavender. :) She was worried that people would say it wasn't "traditional enough", but I told her that the main thing was that she was happy with it - it's HER wedding, after all. :) Who says the bride always has to wear white anyway? :) People told me (five years ago when I got married) that my bridesmaids shouldn't wear black (because it means they hate the bride or something silly like that), but I didn't listen and I think my bridesmaids looked wonderful that day. :)

Boy that was a long time ago! :O

We went to eat at California Pizza Kitchen afterward and made plans to got shoe shopping next weekend. All her plans are starting to come together and I'm getting very excited for her! :) I'd better get my act together and start planning her bridal shower! :) I'm so excited, I love weddings! :)

And I ended up doing one of these:

I scored a 70% on the "How big of a theater geek are you?" Quizie! What about you?</b>

(which I usually don't do, but the questions were SO true to my life that I looked at it and couldn't NOT take it!) ;)

Oh my gosh, how cute were you at your wedding??? Thanks for sharing the picture! Tom and I both can't get over how little you are - you are under 5', right?

I think your bridesmaids dresses were beautiful. I've seen the black bridesmaids dresses done before and it looks so elegant.

Haha! The funniest thing was that my bridesmaids were all wearing one inch heels and I was wearing two inch heels! So I'm even shorter than that! ;)

Thanks for your comments about the dresses. :) I wanted to pick something that they all would like - and I'm glad I found those dresses. And I might be biased, but I think they all look beautiful no matter what. ;)

Gosh, that seemed SO long ago! :O

Edited because I was having a brain fart and THIS is what I meant to say. ;)

My bridesmaids wore black also and I had them choose their own dresses... I just told them below the knees and short sleeves or sleveless... and black. I wanted them to pick a dress they would/could wear again. I didn't actually see the dresses until my wedding ceremony. (That's how laid back I am!) You looked gorgeous in your wedding photo... and also in the lavender dress. =)

Oh, and we had the bridesmaids look all tied together with shawls that my mom and I made... they all wore them differently and it looked nice.

Wow - that sounds really nice! :) I had a hard time picking a style of dress since all my bridesmaids were different builds and different heights. Luckily I found a dress that everyone really liked. :)
ajayne on April 18th, 2004 07:48 am (UTC)
Yeah, I had that same problem... one was really heavy, one was very tall and slender, the other and my sister is "average" build... so it was difficult for me too. Plus, I had the problem of needing to keep things affordable since two of the three had very limited incomes... and the other was paying off huge law school student loans. Ha ha! I will post a picture sometime and you can see how it all looked.

Yes! Please post a photo one day! I'd love to see how everyone looked! :)

I will do that later today. :)

Say hello to Susan! :) Those dresses are beautiful and the color is beautiful... soft and nice...

And oh my Sheri, you looks so beautiful in your wedding picture! ummm...well, not that you are not at other times...but oh never mind... you look great! :)
Sheri: Sydney - puppyshutterbug93 on April 17th, 2004 11:00 pm (UTC)
I'll definitely say hello to Susan for you! :) And I like the softness of the dresses too! Hopefully I'll have enough time to get into the gym and lose some weight before June so I can fit into the dress better. :)

And awwww! Thanks for your sweet comments about the wedding photo. :) I can't believe that my hair was ever that dark! ;)

My wedding dress was off white. I just loved it!

You look so lovely in your wedding gown. Your bridesmaids look classy as well.

I really like the dresses you two are wearing. I like the sheer lavender fabric and the empire waist.

I've seen your wedding dress in your user info and it's gorgeous! :)

Thanks for the sweet comments about the old wedding photo! :) I can't believe it was so long ago! ;)

Hopefully by the time Susan's wedding rolls around, I'll have lost enough weight to be able to wear that dress. :) It is a really cute dress, though - I'm happy she picked it out. :)

Thanks Sheri!

Oh and btw you look just fine in that dress. Very pretty!

Hey, Sheri. I didn't know black symbolized hatred towards the bride. People should be allowed to wear what they please, no matter the event :) btw, my cousin says you guys looked GREAT, and the dresses are very pretty :)

I agree - the bride should be able to pick out whatever she wants for her wedding because it is her day, after all. :) And thanks for the nice comments on the dresses - please thank your cousin too. :)

Lavender is one of my favorite colors so of course I love those dresses. :)

Your wedding picture is so beautiful!!! :D
Sherishutterbug93 on April 18th, 2004 11:43 am (UTC)
Susan's favorite color is purple so it was an easy choice when we saw the dresses just which one she wanted for me. :) It's actually a really pretty pale lavender (and a little hard to see from the digital photo).

And I can't believe that picture was taken so long ago! In some ways it feels like it was just last year, in others it feels like it was ages ago. ;) And my lovely bridesmaids can make any photo beautiful! :)
Carriecarrieh on April 18th, 2004 11:47 pm (UTC)
Wow, I love your wedding photo - I think your bridesmaids look stunning in black and it highlights your own dress.
Sheri: Sydney - happyshutterbug93 on April 19th, 2004 12:30 am (UTC)
Thanks so much for your kind comments, Carrie. :) The dress' straps criss-crossed in the back, it was a really nice dress and my bridesmaids all wore it so well. :)

The bridesmaid dresses are so pretty! Your wedding photo is gorgeous! You look so cute! I agree with you! The bride should be able to wear anything she wants to! It's her day! When I got married, I had my heart set on a Satin wedding dress, everyone told me I shouldn't wear one, because I was getting married in May, and Satin was for winter. I said, "too bad, it's what I have always wanted."
The dress looked great, and I was happy! You can't make everyone happy, so you might as well make yourself happy!
Sheri: Sydney - puppyshutterbug93 on April 21st, 2004 12:41 am (UTC)
Thanks Barb for all the sweet comments. :) And I really do believe that the bride should wear whatever she wants to - good for you for standing up for yourself with the satin dress, I'm sure it was gorgeous! :)
