Susan's Wedding! :)
Ah! It was just beautiful! :) When Susan walked down the aisle in her traditional Japanese kimono, I don't think there was a dry eye in the church - she looked absolutely radiant! The wedding ceremony went wonderfully - except that the Reverend forgot to bring Susan and Fredrick's vows - she ended up reading someone else's vows to them - and no one really knew except those of us who were close enough to hear her whisper (and Susan and Fredrick, of course!)

The reception at Kyoya Restaurant was very non-standard. Because it was held in a tatami room, we all had to remove our shoes before entering and sit on the floor. Unlike most Japanese style restaurants, this one had "leg-wells" where your legs could rest UNDER the floor. I'd never been in a room like that before. It certainly made the seating more comfortable for everyone, but it was sure hard to sit and stand in our dresses! :P

Because Susan's wedding was really small, there was no program, per se, but she did have a slide show and they did the cutting of the cake. :) The reception ended fairly early (at about 9:30pm or so) but Mark & I didn't get home until much later and ended up staying up to talk until about 3am this morning. I think even though we were both exhausted from the long day, we couldn't sleep because of all the residual excitement. :) I'm just so happy that I could've been a part of Susan's special day. :)

Here are a few photos that I took yesterday of the wedding:

Susan all made up in her traditional Japanese Kimono & make up.

A couple of photos I took of the happy couple after the ceremony. My favorite photo is the second one... :)

Susan and I at the reception...my hair had fallen at this point and I looked horribly exhausted - but Susan looked gorgeous!!

The kimono was gorgeous! :) Susan said it weighed about 40 lbs though. :( The whole ceremony it was my job to turn her coat to make sure that when she walked, she didn't step on it... It was so nice, though. :)

Thanks for your sweet comments. :)

Thanks for sharing the photos, Sheri. I also like very much the second one - Susan looks great in her Japanese Kimono and both of them look happy. And, you know, you truly look great, too.

All the best to the happy couple and *hugs* to you.

Oh, those are gorgeous photos! I loved her kimono, especially her headpiece. :) Thanks for sharing those. Are they off to their honeymoon now?

I loved the Japanese theme to their wedding! :) It was so unique - I'd never been to a traditional Japanese wedding before. :) I think they both looked wonderful! :)

They are actually staying an extended weekend at a really nice hotel in Waikiki and going on their honeymoon in October (to Japan) after they move into their new house. :) How exciting for them! :)

That sounds like a great honeymoon! :) Wow... a wedding, new house.. Japan trip in October, what an amazing year for those two!

Awww, Lauren - you're such a sweetie! It's a shame the only photo I have of Susan and I was taken at the end of the evening - after hours of standing and wilting in the humid weather. ;)

It was a gorgeous wedding! :) I'm so happy for Susan and Fredrick! :)

*HUGS*

Wow, those are beautiful photos. The traditional dress looks lovely and you certainly don't look exhausted in the last photo.

Thanks Carrie. :) I was, however, ready to collapse by the time the photo was taken. ;) I was SO tired and I didn't even get married, Susan must've been EXHAUSTED - poor thing!

And her dress and kimono were simply beautiful! :)

Oh the pics are beautiful...the bride and groom look wonderful! :)

And you look beautiful as well! If you didn't tell us of your hair and exhaustion we wouldn't even know! :) Glad you all had a good time! :)

Susan was so gorgeous, Smitha! :) When she walked out everyone started crying. And we had a great time! But I'm all teary because "my twin" is a married woman now! ;)

I love the wedding attire -- that's fabulous! And you both look great in the last pic.

Susan kept going back and forth on whether she wanted to go with the traditional kimono - or get a wedding dress and I'm so glad that she chose this. I think she surprised a lot of people - not many of us (who are fourth generation) would try so hard to preserve our culture by getting married the traditional way. It was so beautiful and very worth the extra effort. :)

I'm sure you are right. And she got to do something really unique, that I, for example, could not do. That does matter.

Thanks Laura. :) The second couple picture is my favorite too. :) I can't wait to see her formal portraits! :)
