4th of July...
...has always been one of my favorite holidays - it's always held such fond memories for me...

Up until last year, Susan and I used to travel to the Big Island every 4th to help the Jaycees in Hilo with their annual fireworks show off of Coconut Island. They actually plan and run the HUGE fireworks show (that the entire island comes down to see) themselves and it's really an amazing experience to be there to actually ignite the fireworks (their show is incredible and ALL manual) :)

This year I think Mark & I might just stay home. We'd been on the go so much that when the opportunity to relax and unwind comes up - we take full advantage of it. :) Besides, Mark is just getting over an awful cold bug he got on the flight home from NYC and I'd gladly welcome the time to sit and snuggle up with the fuzzy dog whenever I get the chance. :)

And of course, no 4th of July is complete without watching "1776" on DVD. :D I watch it numerous times during the year, but I do make a special effort to watch it on the 4th each year. :) Something about that last scene when the bell is ringing and Thomson is calling the names of the delegates that just gives me goosebumps every time!

You know, watching 1776 sounds like a great idea! I think I'll go rent the DVD this weekend or..buy the DVD. LOL

Ah! My personal recommendation is to buy it! :) I can watch it forever and still not get bored. Of course, the DVD would be so much better if it was the LA cast and had *ahem* some tall curly haired fella as Rutledge... but I guess we can't have everything. ;)

Have a nice, relaxing holiday weekend! Watching 1776 sounds like the perfect thing to do on Independence Day.

Thanks, Amanda! Hope you have a nice weekend with Cameron - hopefully Tom will be able to spend some time with you guys this weekend too. And it's become my July 4th tradition to watch "1776" :D.

That's the musical, right? At about age 9, my cousin's son developed an addiction to that musical, just the same way my other cousin and I felt about "Annie" at the same age. But 1776? Where did that come from? I'm sure someone took him to the Civic Light Opera or something where he heard it. He sings and performs the songs all the time. The even nicer part is that it also helped him developed a real interest in history, and even though he's a little slap-dash with other parts of his homework, there's one class where he always does well.

It's interesting that someone would be so attached to "1776" at such a young age. Granted, I LOVE the show, but I think some of the humor might appeal to a audience a little more mature than I was at nine. I must say that your cousin's son does have great taste in musicals, though. "1776" will always be one of my favorite shows!

I saw that after I posted! Whew, glad I said the right thing. Actually, I love his "performances"; unfortunately, I've only ever watched the musical in dribblets with him. Perhaps it's time! Being a history buff, I can't believe I've missed it all these years.

I hope you, Mark, and Sydney enjoy your plans to relax on the 4th. Sounds like a great time if you ask me. :D

I'm glad Mark is getting over his cold.

I think we are going to do the same thing. Just relax with our non-fuzzy dog. Tommy has to work, so he'll be getting home right when the fireworks start. Our street has a ton of parties and fireworks. The minor baseball league has a firework spectacualr too. :) I am glad to hear Mark is feeling better.

Haha! Have a nice time relaxing with your non-fuzzy dog :) (you're so cute, Laura!) and seeing the fireworks! It's nice that Tom will be home in time to watch them with you! :)

I'm glad to hear that Mark is feeling better.

And the idea of a nice relaxing weekend at home sounds good to me. :) Since it's raining here very often and because I can't ride La Douce I also will have a relaxing weekend. :)

*Hugs*

Thanks, Sabine. :)

And I'm always thinking about you and La Douce (and Lauser) and wishing the best for you. Please take care and I hope you have a nice relaxing weekend too.
