Car problems, "Baby", and LA theatre.
This morning I knew I was in for a nightmare when I got into my car, turned the ignition and got a BIG nothing. :P Of course, it would have to happen on the day that I was running extremely late for work AND I had dinner plans with Susan. :( It turns out that my battery was dead (the car wouldn't even turn over) so Mark was nice enough to take me to work and Susan was nice enough to postpone our dinner plans. :P

After work we spent much of our time taking the car in and waiting for them to replace the battery. While we waited, we got a chance to walk around the mall, eat low-calorie sandwiches at Subway :), and go shopping for condiments for our new healthy diet. :) I may have been really annoyed that my car picked today to act up, but it was really nice to spend the evening at the mall with Mark. On a normal day we wouldn't think to spend time that way, but tonight was kind of nice - it was almost like being on a date. And it reminded me that I'd rather be doing nothing at all with Mark than almost anything with anyone else. :)

In non-car news, I can't seem to get the songs from "Baby" out of my head. I love the CD so much that it's been a constant in my car ever since I came home from NYC. I just wish I had seen Julie Jackson play Lizzie - or Norm Lewis at Papermill. *SIGH*

Speaking of which, Nick's "Side by Side" is going to open at the Rubicon Theatre in a few weeks. I'm so sad that I'm missing all of his shows. :( I just hope that he'll be directing something in October when Mark & I are up there again.

And lately I've been missing LA a lot! :( I miss my friends, the theatre there, the people, Trader Joe's, the scary drivers on the freeways,... just everything! One year was much too long to have been away and though I love traveling to NYC, nothing can really beat LA and the people and the theatre there.

I'm off to crawl into bed. Hope you're all having a nice week.

what diet are you on? just wondering. can I find info on it somewhere? thanks. :)
Sheri: Sherishutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 12:32 am (UTC)
I'm on the "Slim in 6" diet and exercise plan and it's pretty sensible - we count calories and not carbs, etc. It also makes sure that we don't eat "empty" calories. :) I've only been on it for five days, but I can already feel the difference in my energy level. :)

Hey, if you want anything from my store that's not too weighty, just holler. We'll work something out. ;-)
Sheri: Sherishutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 12:34 am (UTC)
Aw, thanks! :) I think I can wait until my October trip, but thanks so much for offering - that's really sweet of you. :)

OK! Well, when you get to one, stay away from the imitation Pirate's Booty. 'Tis not the same. ;-)
Sheri: Sherishutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 12:47 am (UTC)
I will definitely keep that in mind. :) Thanks for the warning!

Trader Joes! Some day I want to go up there. Don't you think we need to have our one TJ here?

My friend's just came back from L.A. 3 days ago... I haven't been up there in years.
Sheri: Side Showshutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 12:35 am (UTC)
We really do need one here - but can you imagine how crowded it would be all the time? I can't believe I didn't appreciate it more when I lived in Santa Barbara. :P
Kananigirlkananigirl on July 8th, 2004 12:48 am (UTC)
We need at least 2 of them. ;-) One in town and one in Pearl City or something. I really want a TJ here.

Some customers from Hawaii actually asked me about that, and I told them what we're told to tell them: that there isn't a big enough market. To which they said, "NO, NO, IN -- I forget the name, sorry -- THERE ARE A TON OF CALIFORNIANS, AND THAT'S WHERE WE'RE FROM!" So I dunno. ;-) Although I think they're considering a store in Kentucky, and I figure if they can open one THERE...
Sheri: Sherishutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 01:07 am (UTC)
I think a Hawaii store would be packed all the time! When the Krispy Kreme on Maui opened there were over 300 people waiting in line to get in. :P Hawaii people are nothing if not deprived ;) and it shows when we're blessed with great mainland things (i.e. Krispy Kreme, Cheesecake Factory, etc.) I really think a Trader Joe's would do VERY well here. :)
Kananigirlkananigirl on July 8th, 2004 01:46 am (UTC)
Why do they say, that's there's no market for it here? Are they crazy or something? I want one, that's just not fair!

I haven't been to KK either, we still don't have one here on Oahu, yet. Hey Sheri did you see those guys selling it here on the roads?
Sheri: Sydney - couchshutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 02:27 am (UTC)
Haha! I see them selling KK donuts on Fort Weaver Road all the time. The thing that amazes me is that LOTS of people will stop to buy them! They must be making a killing! :P

Yesterday was National Car Problem Day I think. Three people at my work had issues... two flat tires and one dead battery. How weird.

Im glad it turned out to be a nice night for you though!!! Makes it all worth it in the end! :)
Sheri: Kate Monstershutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 12:37 am (UTC)
Wow - two flat tires and another dead battery. :( Not a good day for cars at all! :(

I have to admit that I was kind of glad that my car broke down - if it hadn't I wouldn't have gotten to spend all that time with Mark. :)

"though I love traveling to NYC, nothing can really beat LA and the people and the theatre there."

yeah, that's because the theater there isn't as good as it is in NYC. ;)

Heehee! Those are fighting words, my friend. ;) Just kidding of course :) - though I feel that there is more of a prestige in NY theatre, there is certainly a lot of talent in LA. In fact, my three favorite productions that I've ever seen were all staged in small 99 seaters in LA. And my two favorite directors are LA based. :) But you know me, all theatre is good theatre. :)

Glad your car is all fixed up now and that you were able to change your dinner plans with Susan. I love it when Joe and I do something out of the ordinary and it feels like a date. :)

Sheri: Sherishutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 12:45 am (UTC)
Even Mark was commenting on how it really was nice to break out of our routine and do something different. :) Im glad something good came out of my car breaking down. :)

Sometimes those forced routine changes are the best!

I'm sorry you had car problems. I'm glad they are fixed now though. :)

And it reminded me that I'd rather be doing nothing at all with Mark than almost anything with anyone else. :)

I feel the same way about Roger. :D

We miss you over here in L.A. :)
Sheri: Stephanie & Kate Monstershutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 12:51 am (UTC)
Aww...thanks, Carrie! :) And the car problems actually ending up being a good thing because Mark and I had a great time and discovered some great lo-cal food in the process. :)

I'm sorry that you had such a bad beginning of the day. But I'm glad to hear that sometimes even bad things can turn into something good. :) And I truly loved to read your words about Mark. :) Hope you slept well and that you will have a nice day, Sheri. *Hugs*

I'm glad that our day turned around too. I felt really bad that Mark had to tag along with me to get my car fixed, but we both ended up having a really nice time. :) Hope you're having a nice week, Sabine. *HUGS*

I agree with you, about not doing anything with hubby. It seems like even though you love each other and see one another everyday, you don't always take the time out and cherish those moments. Oh man look at me I sound like I've been married forever... NOT! The end of this month will be only two years of marriage, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. ;)
Sheri: Familyshutterbug93 on July 8th, 2004 01:02 am (UTC)
You are absolutely right, though and I couldn't have said it better myself! :) It's odd that it took my car breaking down for me to really cherish my time together with Mark. Even he said it felt like a date. :)
