We just got home...
...from seeing the local production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and although there were some stand out performances, the show was something I don't think I'd see again and it reminded me why it wasn't one of my favorites. I do like the song "I Don't Know How To Love Him" - and the girl who played Mary Magdalene had a nice voice, but her belt was all over the place at times and was kind of distracting. The guy who played Jesus (Matthew Pennaz) was wonderful - when he sang the first few notes I had to gasp at his voice - it was that good. Unfortunately, the particular role required an extremely wide vocal range - and though he was a little weak on the higher notes, it almost went unnoticed because of his great acting. He was one of the high points of the entire show (not to mention that he wasn't too hard on the eyes either) ;)

One of the biggest surprises of the evening had to be seeing our local newscaster, Jodi Leong in the cast. I had no idea she did musicals! Some of the members of the ensemble were excellent dancers, some had great voices... All in all we thought it was a pretty good production, but the show itself is still not something I'd choose to see again. :P

We looked at their schedule for next season and the only thing I'm probably interested in seeing is "Anything Goes" since I missed it at Reprise! a few years ago. They're also doing "Seussical", "Funny Thing Happened...", "Beauty & The Beast", and "The Fantastiks" - I wish they'd do "1776", or "Parade" or even "Chorus Line" (it's been years since I've seen it).

When we came home the poor fuzzy dog was yelping and whining behind the door. :( It's been a while since we went anywhere this late at night (yes, we've become the stereo-typical old married couple) ;) and I think she was upset that we came home so late. :P She did her usual sniffing around of our legs which is probably how she tries to sniff out the person who sat in the theatre seat before us. :P

Tomorrow is my day of relaxation. :) I'm working on the scrapbooks for my co-workers, watching my "MASH" dvds, and cleaning up around here. :)

I'm off to get some sleep. Hope you all had a nice evening. :)

WHAT?? They're doing Disney's Beauty & the Beast? I want to go, I've never been to any of the local theatre stuff here.

Let's see... my playbill says it runs from July 15-31, 2005. Oh, that's kind of a long time away. :( You should go and see it though, I was surprised at the quality of the productions at DHT. :)

You thinking of going? How are the seats, the ticket costs, etc?
Sheri: Sydney - happyshutterbug93 on August 1st, 2004 04:06 am (UTC)
Maybe. :) I saw it on Broadway a long time ago. The tickets are VERY reasonable and range from $12 - $42. The theatre is pretty small so there's really not a bad seat in the house. The only thing is that it's so far to drive for us! :P

I've been there 2 times, since my friend had services there. It's a pretty good size theatre, from what I remember.

You're right though, driving there is NUTS. That's probably one reason I'm debating about going or not.

I actually like most of the music in the show, I was a little taken aback by some of the surreal moments in the show, though. All in all it was a good production and we're glad that we saw it. :)
