Pet love...
Spent most of the day trying to help my co-worker find a home for her cat. She'll be moving to Las Vegas in two weeks and needs to find someone to take in Marvin but so far hasn't had any luck. :( If she can't find someone to take him in by next week, she'll have no choice but to take him to the Humane Society. The really sad part about it is that she'd love to take him with her but the embargo dates on Hawaiian Air don't start until after the middle of October (they said it was just too hot to carry pets in cargo until then) :( And even after she gets there - she's planning to stay with family who aren't really too fond of pets in their place. :(

I asked everyone I knew, but no luck. :( I'd definitely take him in at my place, but the last time we brought another animal into the house, poor Sydney had so much anxiety that she got physically ill and we ended up having to give the puppy away to my Mom... :P So it's probably not a good idea for us. :( I've also been trying to search online for No Kill animal shelters in Hawaii that she could possibly take him to - and I found two, but neither of them is accepting any new animals. :( I just hate to think that her cat might end up at the Humane Society and possibly not get adopted - that's just heart-breaking. :( Hopefully she'll be able to find someone between now and when she leaves!

Speaking of pets, I fell asleep for a little while this evening on the floor and when I woke up, ALL of Sydney's toys were around me. :) She must've been annoyed that I wasn't any fun tonight and thought if she just brought the right toy, I'd play with her. :) It's happened once before when she was really ill - I used to sleep on the floor to be next to her since she was too weak to get on the bed - and the day that she brought me all her toys was the day that I knew she was starting to feel better. :)

I've been thinking a lot about her and how lucky we've been to have all this extra time with her recently. It's almost been a year since she was ill and the vet told us there was nothing they could do for her. I'm so glad that we never gave up on her and didn't listen to them - since she's healthier than she's ever been and will hopefully enjoy a loooong happy life. I honestly don't know what I'd ever do without her!

I'm off to HUG my dog and grab a shower - if you know of anyone who lives in Hawaii who'd like the company of a lovable and affectionate cat, please email me. :) Hope everyone has a great evening!

What an adorable cat! It's sad to hear about your friends predicament. Maybe you can find her a home by advertising? Craig's list is pretty good, I'm sure you can find her a good home.

I'll try to ask around to see if I know anyone that would like a cat. I would take her myself but unfortunately, I live in a no pets allowed apartment. =(

Oh thanks for the great idea! I'll definitely check into that! And thanks so much for asking around. Marvin is very sweet and I really hope she finds a home for him.

OMG! What a beautiful *cough* handsome cat! Wish I was close enough to adopt him.

Some airlines let you use a pet carrier that fits under the seat in the cabin during those times. I took SADI to Florida that way when she was a puppy. Has she asked about that yet?

SADI brings me all of her toys all the time. hehe She LOVES to play. Play should be her middle name. heh.

I've actually called the airlines and asked about carrying a pet on the plane - they told me that she needed an airline approved carrier and that Marvin needed to be small enough to be able to stand up and turn around inside the carrier when it was under the seat... Marvin's a pretty big cat, so chances are he's too big. :(

And I usually love when Sydney brings me all of her toys - it's funny when she tries to do it when I'm falling asleep or watching TV, though - she's very persistant then. :)

Take Marvin to the pet store and test that theory. The airline can give you the dimensions for the space underneath the seat. She can try to put Marvin in the airline approved carriers and see if he can turn around. It was a tight fit for SADI when I took her on the airline, but she COULD manage to turn around in there.

Also, some airports have airline approved pet carriers, maybe you can take marvin to the airport and see how he fits in their approved pet carriers for on board. Then there's no doubt.

Also, the carrier I got for SADI was a Sherpa Soft Carrier. It gave a little extra height so that SADI *could* up and turn around, but was flexible enough to fit underneat the seat in front of me for the ride.

How old is Marvin? Is he fixed? Is he friendly to other pets? Surely someone will want to adopt that beautiful cat.

Hell, if she could get him here, *I* will take him.

I've heard of those Sherpa carriers. :) I'll tell my friend about it and see if she wants to bring Marvin to the pet store to test some carriers out. Hopefully she'll be able to find a way to take him with her - he's such a sweet cat. :(

And she told me that Marvin was fixed and that he's very friendly with people (I'm not too sure about other pets, though) The thing she's worried about is his age - he's 7 years old and most people only want to adopt kittens. :(

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I'll definitely run them past her and see what she thinks. She has one weekend left to check around and possibly take him with her - so we'll see.

Oh that breaks my heart hearing things like that. I hope she finds a home for her cat before having to take it to the humane society. Ugh. That poor cat - actually makes me want to cry.
Sheri: Sydney - couchshutterbug93 on August 26th, 2004 08:45 am (UTC)
I hope Marvin's able to find a home too! :( It makes me SO sad to think that he might have to be taken to the Humane Society. :(
ajayne on August 25th, 2004 11:45 am (UTC)
I hope she is able to find someone to temporarily take Marvin until he can fly. What about those soft-side duffle bag pet carriers? It could probably fit under the seat and she could count it as a carry-on. Has she checked in to that?
Sheri: Sydney - couchshutterbug93 on August 26th, 2004 08:49 am (UTC)
I was hoping that she was looking for someone to take care of Marvin temporarily, but as it turns out the place she'll be in up in Las Vegas is not too keen on cats. I think poor Marvin needs to find a permanent home. :(

And we've checked into carrying him on the plane, but Marvin's a pretty big cat and the airlines told us that the only way was if Marvin were able to fit under the seat and be able to stand up and turn around freely under there. :( We think he's too big. :(
ajayne on August 26th, 2004 10:25 am (UTC)
That's a shame about Marvin. I sure hope he doesn't end up going to the shelter.

Is there a Craigslist in your area? That is where we got Krystal.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on August 27th, 2004 02:21 am (UTC)
I'll definitely have to look into Craigslist for her. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

I know there is one in Honolulu... I hope you it works out.

Oh my gosh, I wish that I lived in Hawaii. I would so have that cat at my house by tonight! He's gorgeous!
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on August 26th, 2004 08:53 am (UTC)
Awww that's so sweet! :) Actually, when I was first trying to think of people who might be kind enough to take him in, you and Tom did come to mind (it's a shame you live so far away!)
Carecareleswhisper on August 25th, 2004 12:57 pm (UTC)
I hope Marvin finds a home. :)
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on August 26th, 2004 08:54 am (UTC)
Oh, me too! We still have a few more days and hopefully someone will fall in love with his picture and want to adopt him. :)
Sabine: Lauser Kopfsabine10 on August 25th, 2004 01:51 pm (UTC)
I'm very sorry to hear about your co-worker and Marvin. He is such an adorable cat. Is he a "Siam" (could not find a translation, perhaps it's the same in English) cat? I hope everything will turn out well for your co-worker and her cat.

I also hope that Sydney will enjoy a long happy live. Please, give her a hug from me.

Take care, Sheri. *Hugs*
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on August 26th, 2004 08:58 am (UTC)
I think my friend was telling me that he's part Siamese and part something else (I can't remember). He's certainly adorable, though. :) And thanks for your nice wishes, I hope everything works out for them too!

And thanks for so supportive of me when Sydney was ill. I'll make sure to give her a HUGE *HUG* for you. :) Please give one to Lauser as well (is he still missing Kitty?)

Please take care, Sabine. *HUGS*
Sabine: Lauser Kopfsabine10 on August 27th, 2004 03:28 pm (UTC)
Sheri, I'm glad that I could be at least a bit there for you during the time when Sydney was ill. You often have brighten up my life and I'm happy that I've got a friend like you.

I hope Sydney enjoyed the hug - Lauser truly enjoyed your hug. :) He is no longer so very much in love with Kitty but he still is looking if he can see her and is happy when we meet her.

Send *love* and *hugs* your way

PS: Tomorrow I'll bring the strawberry jam to the post office. I did not dare to do it earlier because of the warm weather we had here. I'm curious to see how long it will take until it will reach you and I hope that you still can eat it then.
Sheri: Sydney - happyshutterbug93 on August 27th, 2004 09:42 pm (UTC)
Awwww Sabine, you are the sweetest!!! THANK YOU so much! I'm really looking forward to trying your awesome strawberry jam!! :D You are so sweet to think of me. I'm still thinking of something good and "Hawaiian" to send to you. :D Big *HUGS* to you!!
