Upon the advice and recommendations of...
gigglets and laurenybeth I checked out the Curves across the street from my working place this afternoon. It seemed like a nice place, everyone seemed friendly, and the atmosphere was much better than most gyms that I've been to. I spoke a bit with the owner of the location and made an appointment to go in tomorrow after work to get a FA (Figure Analysis?) Yikes! Anyway, I'm pretty excited about it and I'll most likely join. :)

I've seen the ads for that place, they're near Ala Moana right? Are they just a regular gym? What exactly do they do? I've been looking into joining a gym for the summer, but I've also been thinking about taking yoga, or some sort of classes to get me in shape.

Yup, they're in the Ala Moana Pacific Center and I used to pass them by everyday on my way to the mall during lunch hour. :) If nothing else, I was hoping my new Curves membership might save me some money because I won't be shopping during lunch... :)

It's a 30 minute work out with hydraulic machines and it's ALL women (which is nice) and the thing that everyone talks about and I love is the supportive atmosphere. When I looked around, it seemed that people who go there are everyday working people who aren't necessarily gym types. It looked like a lot of fun, but I guess I'll have more to say after I've actually worked out there this afternoon. You should check it out though, they have a free trial week period.

I've been wondering about them. Are they any different from other gyms? Are they expensive? I'd love to hear more info from you.

When I asked them about cost, it didn't seem to be any more expensive than joining any other gym, in fact it's probably a little less expensive. The thing I like about it is that I didn't feel intimidated there or like I didn't belong. My friend from work, who goes to another location, swears by it and says she's lost 8 pounds within the first three weeks. :)
