"Movin' Out" and "Brooklyn Boy"
Yup, I couldn't stay away. ;) I'm at Kinkos again with another trip update.

First of all, it was a blessing in disguise that "Ten Commandments" was cancelled on Wednsday night. Mark & I ended up getting pretty good seats to see "Movin' Out." And although it wasn't quite the type of musical that I'm used to -- it was VERY enjoyable and the talent onstage was incredible. My only regret was that I didn't get to see Holly Cruikshank in the role of Brenda, because I heard she's fabulous. Laurie Kanyok was the Brenda that we ended up seeing and although I liked her, she wasn't my favorite member of the cast. Julieta Gros was fantastic as Judy (and Mark liked her because she reminded him of Jessica Grove) :) and Matt Wilson was very good as the piano man (I'm suddenly VERY upset that I never got to see Michael Cavanaugh on Broadway). All in all it was a wonderful production and I'm glad that we got the chance to see it.

Last night we saw "Brooklyn Boy" at South Coast Rep and it was fantastic! Every once in a while I'll forget how much I love straight plays and then a play like this comes along... Although the entire cast was fabulous (with Adam Arkin giving one of the best performances I've ever seen him give) the real joy in this show is the writing. Donald Margulies is a genius. I really don't have time for a full fledged review (as I'm sitting here in the middle of Kinkos) but it was one of the best straight plays I've seen in a while. I can't wait for it to hit Broadway next year. :)

I can't believe that it's already Friday and I haven't seen a Kevin show yet. ;) That'll change tonight, though because we're finally seeing "Ten Commandments." :) I have to admit, I'm a little afraid, a little excited, but ultimately very happy to finally be able to see Kevin again. :)

Aside from seeing shows, Mark & I have been eating horribly! :P Our first day in LA, we ate at Red Robin and ate burgers that were just dripping with fat. :P Yesterday we went to Claim Jumper (we just couldn't go to LA and NOT eat at Claim Jumper!) The food was SO delicious, but I know it's really going to cost us in the calorie department. :P Today we're heading out to Applebees for lunch (as if we didn't eat enough calories the other days to last us the whole week!) :P I won't be surprised if I have to go shopping next week for a new wardrobe because all my clothes I brought have all gotten too tight for me. :P

I'm sorry my entries have been so sporatic and flighty lately (I feel so pressured when I see the clock ticking on my time here) I just wanted to quickly pop in and see how you all are doing. Hope you all have a nice weekend. :) Mark & I are off to Trader Joes. :)

Buy them and go - it's fabulous! The writing was incredible! :) And you'll love Adam Arkin's performance!

I used to feel guilty for eating poorly when I travel but you find that when you travel you exercise more too - all the walking you do getting places or sightseeing. I'm not sure if you're doing that while in LA (aren't you there for work?), but I'm sure you're burning it off as you eat so ENJOY!!

Does Mark ever get jealous about Kevin? It's really cute the way you describe your excitment about seeing Kevin - like you're seeing your long distance boyfriend! I think my hubby would be raging jealous!

You're right, I've done a lot of walking since I've been here so I don't feel too bad about all the food that I've been eating. But now that Mark's gone home, I think that I'll be eating better now.

And Mark's great about Kevin. :) I think he knows that I admire Kevin for his talent (though I may joke about how nice he looks in his Act I costume) ;).

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time so far! Don't worry about the poor eating out while on vacation. We all do it and you do a lot more walking and stuff. Just make sure it is food you know you will totally enjoy!!

I have been enjoying the food! A little too much! :) Now that Mark has gone home, I think I'll be eating a little better. :) Hopefully that I won't need to make that shopping trip for a larger wardrobe. :)

Ah... I am sure you will not be in need of a bigger wardrobe. :)

"Ten Commandments" was a lot better than I expected! Kevin was fantastic! (Though he always is so it's no real surprise)

Claim Jumper was wonderful! :) There was so much food that Mark & I couldn't even order dessert (we really wanted to eat the Motherlode cake) *SIGH* I love that place!

I'm so glad you're having a good time...isn't Movin' Out great? I never knew quite what to expect before I saw it, but I loved it. Yay for Kevin! I hope you had a good time at the show. :)

I really enjoyed "Movin' Out!" It wasn't like anything I expected, but the cast was so incredibly talented that they were just a joy to watch. :)

I'm very glad to hear that you both have a good time. :) I'm always happy to hear something about you and, please, don't feel bad because of your entries - it's really great that you think of us during your vacation. Thanks for sharing a part of it. :) *Hugs*

We SO need a Trader Joe's in Hawaii! My suitcase will be so heavy because of all the things I'm bringing home with me from there. :)
Kananigirlkananigirl on October 11th, 2004 04:06 pm (UTC)
*L* You should bring a suitcase just for TJ. ;-) I wish we really had one. It's not fair we don't.
