Mark & I have been trying to decide what to do for our anniversary this year. It's been a while since we've been to the neighbor islands and we thought it might be nice to go to Kona or Maui for the weekend. The problem is after renting a car, paying for the outrageous inter-island airfare, hotel, etc. It'll almost cost us as much as it does to go to some place like LA. :( Too bad we were just there. :P

We might just go and spend the weekend at a nice hotel in Waikiki (like the Hyatt - where we got married) and spend the weekend like tourists. :) We love the Hyatt and the last time we went there for our anniversary they treated us so well (they upgraded our room and sent up some champagne with a "Happy Anniversary" note on it). Whatever we decide to do, we'd better decide soon - our anniversary is in just two weeks. :0

Speaking of trips, my friend Susan and her hubby just got back from their honeymoon in Japan. :) They had a great time and visited a lot of interesting places (they took a lot of tours of anime studios). :) Mark's parents want to take us to Japan next year with them for two weeks. I told Mark that he should go (since he's never been there), but I'd feel really bad about going (since they offered to pay for us and I'm so not used to that!) and I'm not sure if I would be able to afford two weeks of vacation in a row next year.

My Mom comes home from Japan today. :) It's been a long two weeks without her. I don't go and see her on any kind of regular basis, but I talk to her on the phone everyday. I've really missed her while she was away. :( I hope she had a great time. I can't wait to hear all about her trip! :)

And finally, I wanted to wish a very happy birthday to hobbes1969!! Hope you have a nice day, Dawn!

I'm sure that you'll have a great time celebrating your anniversary no matter what you do. How many years will it be?

Mark & I will have been married for 6 years in a few weeks. :)

I vote for the Hyatt. That sounds like it would be an awesome weekend.

Oooooooooh Japan! That is my dream to go there someday. Ideally I'd love to go with my mom but unfortunately that will never happen.

I love the Hyatt and I'm definitely leaning more toward that option now - though I miss Mrs. Barry's cookies from Kona and would love to drive through Honokaa and pick up some Tex's Malasadas (yes, I've been thinking about food, lately) :P

I'd like to go back to Japan again. I went in high school and never felt like I was in the right frame of mind to appreciate it then. Hopefully you'll get to go too. :) Does your mother not like to travel?

I'm sure you two will have a nice time wherever you decide to go. :)

Thanks, Carrie. :) I think it'll probably be the Hyatt. :) It'll be nice to act like tourists for the weekend. :)

Thanks, Laura! :) We just like spending time together - so a weekend at the Hyatt would be perfect! Plus there's a really great restaurant in the hotel (Ciao Mein - where Mark took me for my birthday this past year) that we love going to. :) (Why do my comments always revert back to food?) :)

Your idea how to spend your anniversary sounds very nice to me. But, I'm sure, that, whatever you will, you both will have a great time. :)

I'm glad to hear that your friends had a nice time in Japan. And I've to say that I understand your feelings in regard to Mark's parents invitation. I hope your Mom will reach safely and that she had a great time.

Please take care, Sheri. *Hugs*

Thanks, Sabine. :) I think we've decided on the Hyatt - aside from everything else, we're both too exhausted after our recent trip (and everything going on at work) to on another trip. WE love the Hyatt, though so it should be very nice! :)

My Mom had a wonderful time in Japan! :) She very excitedly talked to me about all the wonderful shopping there. :)

BTW, Sabine - I'm loving your new icon of Micki! :) Such a darling photo of her! :D *HUGS* to you both! :)

It's SO costly! :( I think your anniversary plans sounded great! I think Mark & I won't go to the neighbor islands this year - we'll probably stay at home and play tourist in Waikiki (which is sometimes more fun anyway) :)

Hyatt does sound very nice. Playing tourist is always fun! Make sure you get a loud matching Aloha dress for you and shirt for Mark! ;)

I am sure you will have fun no matter what you end up doing! :)

Thanks, Kristen. :) I think that I'll probably make reservations for the Hyatt today. :) It'll be nice to get away and spend some time with Mark in Waikiki. :)
