Audit blahs & contagious disease worries :P
Not the best title that I could come up with for a post, but it's pretty accurate to describe the Monday that I've had. :P My OSJ audit is this week and it's going horribly. I knew I was in for a bad week when the auditor took me aside early yesterday morning and told me that he'd already found a few deficiencies in things that he thought were really standard. Blah. That and his constant reminders that he's the "nice" auditor have me really worried for the rest of the week. :P

Aside from the audit, one of our bankers realized that he might have shingles - but came in to work anyway! :o He'd been having aches and pains for the past few days and recently broke out in some strange welts (that he showed everyone in the bank). :P He left to go to the doctor, but not before he infected one of our co-workers, who started to come down with similar symptoms yesterday afternoon. :(

I don't know too much about shingles, but the little that I do know tells me that if I ever had symptoms, a crowded bank would be the last place I'd go. :P I hope both of them are okay - but we did make sure that our co-worker went to the doctor before thinking about coming back to work.

And finally, I've never really thought of Julie or Kevin as being particularly political people, but I was very surprised to see these pictures. :D

Special thanks to everyone who filled out the Holiday Card poll below. :)

I don't think that shingles is contagious, is it? I had it before and I still worked with it. My doctor never told me to stay home. It's just really painful and itchy.

Tom has never had the chicken pox. We used to tease him that he was going to get it in his 30s through Cameron, but then Cameron got vaccinated against it, so I guess that won't be happening. Darn! LOL.

I actually got the chicken pox twice when I was a kid because my first case of it was so mild. Then, I got the shingles 1 1/2 years ago.

Tom has never had chicken pox? I never got most of the childhood diseases because I was an only child. :P

I had a really mild case of chicken pox too. My fear was that it'd come back as well. :P

Deleted my first comment above so I could do a bit of research on shingles - but then posted it below. :P

Yeah, Tom was an only child, too. He never got anything!

My oldest brother brought home measles to me before I was even a month old. :P

I think that shingles is contagious to people who have never had the chicken pox virus before. I think I remember that when my boss' parents had shingles, they had to stay away from my boss' son and couldn't babysit him because he'd never had chicken pox before. A bunch of people in my office had never had chicken pox, so I was a little worried for them. :P

Shingles is an adult form of chicken pox! And yes, it can be contagious to those who've never had chicken pox before. People should be responsible and STAY HOME and not infect other people especially if you're in a large offices.

Shingles is a "second outbreak" of chicken pox. In other words, you can't have shingles unless you've had chicken pox earlier in your life or your mother had it late in pregnancy when she was pregnant with you. However, if you have shingles, you can give chicken pox to people around you who've never had it. People who already had chicken pox cannot get shingles from someone who has shingles. You get shingles if your immune system is somehow compromised, then the chicken pox virus that's been dormant in you decides to come out.

I hope that helps.

That's VERY helpful - thanks so much! Oh, my boss and co-worker sure have to worry then, they haven't gotten chicken pox yet! Yikes. :P

Shingles are awful! I just hope my boss hasn't caught chicken pox from this guy - I'll be really upset with him :P

And I wrote a post about those Julie photos when I first saw them back in May. Here it is:

Urgh about the shingles, it sounds so inconsiderate to go in work like that. My dad had Shingles once and he was completely paranoid about anyone else catching it from him. Both him and my aunt said it was very painful as well (my aunt got it all round her eyes).

I know! He came in to work again today. :P I just hope that my boss doesn't get the chicken pox from him - I'll be very upset if she does. :(

I had shingles, and I don't think they're contagious unless the people you're around are immuno-compromised. However, it's very painful and he shouldn't have taken the chance!

I heard it's very painful! :( I'm hoping that he didn't infect my boss with chicken pox (she hasn't had it yet) :P

I hope no one else gets shingles. Reading the other comments though makes me think they may not. :) Just hopefully they get checked out and healthy. :)

Me too! I hope my boss doesn't get the chicken pox! That's what I was so worried about today when the banker came in to work. :P Even after we told him that she hadn't had the chicken pox, he still went to talk to her in her office and managed to touch all her things. :P How inconsiderate! :P

My Mom and Sister both had Shingles. As the other lady posted, they are the same virus as Chicken Pox, if you have had Chicken Pox, you get shingles. They are a virus, so you have the same chance of getting them as any other viurs.
However, if you do get them, go to the dr right away, they have a medication that will clear them up immediately if you catch it early enough. It is some type of antiviral.
My neighbor got them last year, and received the antiviral, and it worked for her. The shingles will follow the path of a nerve, that is why they are so painful. If they get really bad, you can go in and get nerve blocks done, which will deaden the nerves. I hope your week improves! Stay healthy!
