A day of rest
I rarely ever call in sick to work. I always feel so guilty about it, no matter how sick I am because it means someone has to cover for me that day. :P There's always a "drop dead deadline" that I have in my head whenever I'm sick - the time by which, if I don't feel better, I'd have to call in or I won't be able to make it to work on time. My time was 7:25 this morning and I felt awful at 7:25. :P So I called in... Luckily the sales manager was nice enough to cover my trades for the day. :)

By mid-morning, I was feeling much better. In fact, so much better that I did some laundry and addressed some Christmas cards. Add that to the work I did on Kevin's site this afternoon and it turned into a pretty productive day. Of course the entire day I felt extremely guilty because I actually felt well enough to be at work. :P

In semi-related news, poor Kevin has been sick too. :( He almost didn't show up for Sunday's matinee (which would have been a real tragedy for my friends since they went to the matinee just to see him). Thankfully he says he's feeling much better today (he really has to protect that golden voice of his!) Hopefully he feels well enough to go on during closing weekend.

In holiday news, I'm making sure that I remember to bring lunch everyday for the next month just so I can avoid the horror of the mall. :P Just the little glimpse of the crowd I got on Friday when I had to mail out Kevin's birthday gift got me frightened enough to want to stay away for the next month. :P That's the worst thing about working so close to the mall (well, that and the BIG Santa that I have a silly phobia of - which thankfully I don't work near anymore AND is another story altogether) :) The nice thing, of course is that I always have a parking space if I ever really did want to shop. :)

BTW, I made my new icon from an old Suzy Zoo picture I had - it's what I always imagined Sydney would look like on Christmas morning. :)

Btw, you should tell Kevin about the Solu-C too. It's for your voice as well. Especially if you sing, etc. It's got collagen which is what your vocal cords are made up of. I've got a friend that uses it and now I've started to use it.

Oh that's good to know that it's good for the voice too. I wonder what he uses - I know my friend who saw him on Sunday said he was popping a lot of cough drops. :(

I know zinc is good for the voice, from what I heard. It's Vitamin C is the thing though that will really help. Plus it's in the powder form so even more so for someone that sings a lot that's super good. Just don't take too much of it, since nothing done in excess is good anyway. I guess it depends on how much your body can take.

Here's some other stuff you can pass on to him too:

Dilute apple cider vinegar with water, and drink it before you go to bed. I know, it sounds weird, but it works. It works a lot better for just plain I-lost-my-voice, but it will help your throat. He was telling me about this soprano that lost her voice the day before the concert. She used this method, and her voice was near perfect the next morning.

Actually, while citrus might help wake up a tired voice, its bad for a sore throat. Citrus is acidic, so it can hurt you. If you're voice is tired, go boil citrus in water, add honey and try to drink that without tasting it...
Zinc is good for sore throats. Echinecea (sp?) is good for tired throats, but doesn't do a damned thing for a cold. Goldenseal works well for a sore-throat/cold... they make it in liquid that can be added to tea, or spray (which makes you gag a bit... its gross) and pills... at the very least, its an all natural suppliment... you can get it at a local GNC.

Wow - that's a lot of really great information - thanks so much, Rayna!! :)

Sure np! I got that other information on the lj singers forum. So that's not really from me. *L* I just passed it on.

I noticed that new icon immediately, and I LOVE it! :)

Hope you feel better soon. *hug*

Thanks! It's hard to find cute cartoon drawings of shelties.

And I feel much better today, thanks so much! :)

Glad you're feeling better - the extra bit of rest in the morning probably did the trick. Don't feel guilty for staying home. If I was your coworker, I'd be thankful you stayed home vs. coming in and sharing your cold. Remember Mr. Shingles?
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on November 30th, 2004 09:10 am (UTC)
You're right - I'd forgotten about Mr. Shingles! :P And I'm going in today, but I feel tons better than I did yesterday morning. :)

I noticed the new icon right off the bat. It's adorable.

I'm also like you - I so rarely call off that when I do, my boss assumes that I must be dying.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on November 30th, 2004 09:12 am (UTC)
Awww, thanks Amanda! :) I hope that I don't wake up Christmas morning to see that she has gone through our gifts like that, though. :)

I must've used only about three sick days within the last three years. I've been really fortunate that I haven't needed to use them.

I don't think my get well hugs are getting to you fast enough! :(

You're so sweet, Stacey! :D I think they got to me just in the nick of time. I feel so much better now! Thanks so much! :)

Sydney's icon reminds me of what our three huskies do to the presents BEFORE Christmas. ;)
Sheri: Sydney Christmasshutterbug93 on November 30th, 2004 11:19 pm (UTC)
Haha! Your huskies are very much like Sydney. :) She used to run around the house with ornaments from the tree dangling from her mouth as a puppy - so I can imagine what she'd do to our presents. :)

*HUG* sometimes you just have to take a day off to recoup. btw, what have you heard on "Little Women"? Sutton Foster's headlining, but I don't think I've really heard any buzz on the show. just curious...
Sheri: Kevin - as Trevor Graydon in shutterbug93 on November 30th, 2004 11:26 pm (UTC)
It was actually what I really needed (not to mention some time away from my office). :)

Heard only the standard things about "Little Women" - that Sutton and Megan McGinnis are in it. It's supposed to be a great show - I was going to try to see if I could see it during my February trip to NY, but then Kevin's show postponed their NYC engagement (DRAT!) So, maybe I won't get to see it until later. Are you planning on seeing it? I really wanted to - only because I wanted to see Sutton in a role that wasn't Millie. :) It's funny that I've seen her onstage at least ten times, but all in the very same role. :P

I think "Brooklyn Boy" is a must-see, though. The writing is fantastic! The acting is wonderful too, but the writing really is superb.

I noticed that icon right away, LOVE IT!!! :)

I'm glad you're feeling better. :D

Thanks, Carrie! :) If the ears in the drawing were perked up, it'd look just like Sydney. :) And I'm feeling much better today, thanks so much! :)
