Some photos from NYC...
...as well as a quick re-cap of some of the more memorable moments of the trip. :)

Highlights:
  • After going to see "Avenue Q" three times in the past year, I finally got the chance to meet John Tartaglia after the show. He was a sweetheart and SO cute in person. *SIGH* :)
  • To add to my very short list of random celebrity-type people I happened to see walking around the streets of NY, I happened to catch a glimpse of Jeff Marx (one of the co-creators of "Avenue Q") on 48th street, going into a restaurant with some friends on Sunday night (Weird coincidence as one of the only other random people I've seen in NYC is Robert Lopez, during my June trip - the other co-creator of "Avenue Q") ;)
  • Shopping on 5th Avenue with my Mom. :) She and I had so much fun browsing in all the stores and trying on and buying clothes. As we got to the higher end stores, we also had fun browsing and looking at all the clothes that we couldn't afford to buy. ;)
  • Eating dinner on Friday night with my Mom at Charley O's. :) We both had the shortribs and my Mom labeled it one of her all time most memorable eating experiences. :) It was also my VERY belated birthday dinner for her. :)

My quick impressions of the shows we saw:
  • "Fiddler on The Roof" - As mentioned in my previous post, I really enjoyed the show. Harvey's performance was charming and touching and had me in tears for most of the second act (yes, I'm a sap!) ;)
  • "Little Women" - The story was sweet and seemed to work really well in its more dramatic moments. Unfortunately, it seemed that the impact of a few of the other supporting roles were lessened a bit by the strong characterization of Jo. Sutton was excellent, as was Maureen McGovern - but I fear the rest of the cast seemed to sometimes suffer in comparison. :( I did enjoy the show, though and it was one of the better new shows that I've seen recently.
  • "Brooklyn" - I liked the performances in this show a lot. While it wasn't my favorite new show that I've seen, I have to admit that Ramona Keller, Kevin Anderson (be still my heart - he's my second favorite theatre Kevin) ;), and Eden Espinosa have a lot of talent! I also agree with Gill and Karen who liked the creativity in the show. I'm not sure if I'd see it again, but I'm definitely glad I got the chance to see it once. :)
  • "Wonderful Town" - Four words - I.MISS.DONNA.MURPHY. :( The show was still the same sweet show that we saw back in June, but somehow without the hilarious performance of Donna Murphy, the show really lacked something. :( I felt as though Brooke Shields tried really hard, sometimes maybe a bit too hard to get laughs, whereas Donna was so natural in her physical comedy. Finally got to see Raymond Jaramillo McLeod as Wreck (he was out when we saw it in June) - and he was great - and HUGE - I don't remember him looking SO buff in the Oklahoma! photos with Kevin. :O
  • "Avenue Q" - Just as wonderful the third time as it was the first time I saw it. All the principals were in - except for Ann Sanders. Her understudy, Angela Ai was very funny, but an Ann Harada-less "Avenue Q" was a little hard for me to get used to. The cast was all wonderful, but I really missed Ann Harada. :(

And now a few photos. :)

Waiting in the cold in the TKTS line on Sunday.

Hope you all have a nice evening! I'm off to catch up on my sleep! :P

Nice photos. Looks like you had a good time. Are you going to go back to NYC to see Spamalot?

Thanks, we had a great time! :) Unfortunately, I think I've used up my NYC traveling quota for the year. I usually like to go in January or February when I can actually afford the outrageous airfares. ;) I'd love to go back, though since I really wanted to see "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "Spamalot," and "The Pajama Game" (until I heard it was already cast...) :P I keep hoping that Kevin returns to Broadway so I'll have more incentive to go back this year. :)

Awww, you and your mom are just the cutest together! I've never been to NYC in winter, but I remember going to Rockerfeller Center and having lunch there and also waiting in that ticket line outside for show tickets!

Haha! I think my Mom is the only person I know who is actually shorter than me! ;) I always feel so tall in photos with her! :D

I love NYC - even waiting outside in the cold for the TKTS booth was fun for me. :)

I'm so jealous! :) Haha, but only in a good way - it sounds like you had SUCH a fabulous time. I agree with a lot of what you had to say about the shows. I'm so sad I never got to see Donna in Wonderful Town :( She's fabulous. AND YOU MET JOHN TARTAGLIA! AHHHH!!! :D
Sheri: John & Rodshutterbug93 on January 20th, 2005 07:11 am (UTC)
Oh, Donna was fabulous in Wonderful Town!! Her comedic timing was perfect! :) And *SIGH* I love John Tartaglia! He's SO adorable - and looked so great in person! :)

Please take care, Sheri. *Hugs*

We had such a nice time! :) I think the nicest part was getting to spend so much time with my Mom. :)

Hope you've had a nice day, Sabine! Big *HUGS* to you and to Micki! :)

oh wait, yup, there you are....I was too busy looking at all those yummy pastries in that first picture. I'm glad you had a great time. this year on my list is "Avenue Q." I'm so ashamed....I should've seen it by now and haven't and you've seen it three times. I also missed "Millie" at the Kennedy Center. :( well, at least I won't miss "Brooklyn Boy." my one question to you is this....would you recommend "Brooklyn"? I'm contemplating seeing it (am also a big Kevin Anderson fan) but haven't yet made up my mind. what would you do?
Sheri: Stephanie & Kate Monstershutterbug93 on January 20th, 2005 08:02 am (UTC)
Haha! Now you know why my diet was a mess in NYC! ;) You'll just love "Avenue Q" - I can already tell - it's one of the most hilarious shows I've seen! :) I'm a little up in the air about "Brooklyn" -- I enjoyed it, but I can see that it's not for everyone. I think that if you're a Kevin Anderson fan, you'll enjoy it (because he's great in the show! I love his voice!) If you're deciding between "Avenue Q" and "Brooklyn", though - I'd say see Q!

The picture with you and John is SO CUTE! :)
Sheri: John & Rodshutterbug93 on January 20th, 2005 08:04 am (UTC)
I love John Tartaglia!! Isn't he just the sweetest? It was freezing cold, but he made sure that everyone who stayed to see him got a photo and and autograph. :)
I'm so cool too bad I'm a loser: it's a jolly holiday with maryaudienceawaits on January 20th, 2005 02:09 am (UTC)
oooh...sounds so great! I'm glad you didn't hate Brooklyn. There have been so many bad things said about it, but I still think its originality really needs to be recognized. Thanks for the mini-review of Little Women, I definitely want to check it out :)
and that photos are great! I love Rupert Ji!! That's just great...hehehe
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on January 20th, 2005 08:07 am (UTC)
I didn't hate Brooklyn, in fact I really enjoyed the performances. It helps that I adore Kevin Anderson, though - what a lovely voice on that man! ;)

And Rupert's such a nice guy! It's really cute to see all the people who come in wanting to see him! :)

Awww, thanks Laura! I was just glad that there were nice people in the area who didn't mind taking our photo! :)

BTW, I love your new icon! :D
