March 3rd...
... is my grandmother's 92nd birthday - and she's just amazing for her age! :D She's a VERY strong and feisty woman and at 92 still lives alone in her big house in Hilo and will still do things like chase chickens out of her backyard with a broomstick or carry burning hibachis across her lawn. :D She's constantly cooking and will make countless pies, tons of sushi, and shrimp tempura whenever we come over to visit. We've always said that she was so strong and stubborn that she'd probably outlive us all. ;) Mark & I are flying to the Big Island next weekend to celebrate her birthday with the entire family. :) I haven't seen her since my uncle passed away several years ago and it'll be so nice to see her next weekend - I can't wait. :)

On a completely different note, work was incredibly stressful today! Out of our office staff of about 12, only four people showed up for work... :P One of our (rather unpopular) sales managers came in while she was sick and passed around her stomach flu virus to all of us earlier this week. :P She must've used everyone's telephone and touched every machine in the office while she was in too, because my co-workers are all dropping like flies. :( Poor things! :( I really hope I'm not the next to go! :(

And speaking of health, thankfully I'm still as motivated as ever with my renewed healthy eating and exercise plan. :) The first couple of weeks are always the hardest for me to adjust. :( Peanut butter cookies call out to me when I'm at the mall and I always feel pulled toward the California Pizza Kitchen during my lunch break. :P If I can just get through these first couple of weeks, I think I'll be okay. :) I just have to keep telling myself that I've done it once before and I know that I can do it again. :)

Oh well, I'm off to crawl into bed. :P Hope you all have a nice evening. :)

Happy birthday to your grandma. :) I hope you all have fun next weekend.

Hope that bug stays away from you. :/

Thanks, Carrie! :) It's been a while since Mark & I have been to the neighbor island (unless you count my brief layover in Kona during this last LA trip) :P and it should be nice to see my family! :)

And so far so good on that flu bug *knocks wood*. :)

Welcome to my world of constant dieting and guilt trips about the gym! But you're right - once you get "in the groove" - it's OK...I've been doing so well for months cutting down on the complex carbs (pasta, bread, rice) but fallen off the wagon over the weekend...now I'm having a hard time getting back into the routine. The hardest part is that my coworker brought in Girls Scout cookies. Those things are Devil's work!!

How much does it cost to travel from island to island in Hawaii? How long will your flight be? And is it all prop planes? Just curious. I always thought that is one main reason why I couldn't live in Hawaii...the fact you can't just get in your car or train and just go. It's a weird claustrophobic thing with me I guess.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 3rd, 2005 05:11 pm (UTC)
Ah Girl Scout cookies are so evil! ;) Thin Mints, Tag-a-longs... ah! Just thinking about them makes me want to find a girl scout to buy some. :) I think a weekend of "falling off the wagon" is okay too, though. I used to cheat here and there last year - it just kept me from feeling completely deprived all the time. :) Sounds like you're doing wonderfully, though! :)

It's gotten more expensive to travel from island to island nowadays (which is why Mark & I rarely go away for the weekend anymore). Coupons for one way travel are about $80? It used to cost about $100 to travel round trip! :P And flights are usually about 45 minutes to Hilo - with the shortest being 25 minutes to Kauai. :) And the planes aren't tiny - they're smaller than DC-10s, but hold about 125 people - not too scary to fly. :)

And that's the thing I hate most about living here - I can't go anywhere without getting on a darn plane! :P

Happy Birthday to your Mom oh and happy Girls day too Shari. :) I don't know if your mom ever told you stories of girls day or not. :)
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 3rd, 2005 05:13 pm (UTC)
Oh, we have many girl's day traditions in the islands! Mochi being one of my favorites! :D Happy Girls' Day to you too, Mel! :D
Kayleakaylea on March 3rd, 2005 08:16 pm (UTC)
I miss mochi so bad. ;_; the only thing I miss about living with my parents is the REAL japanese food and mom's homemade mochi. ;_;

Thanks so much, Kristen! She's definitely a strong woman! I hope I'm half as active as she is when I'm that age. :D

Hi, I came from alligatorandme LJ comment. You are "Sheri" from ATC! Didn't know you are in Hawaii. Wow, to travel to LA and NYC for Kevin, that's LOVE! But I'd do the same, traveling all over the country to see my man, Danny perform :)

Happy Birthday to your Grandma, my hubby's Grandpa's birthday was yesterday and he is 96 yrs old? And he has a live-in girl friend!
Sheri: Sheri & Kevinshutterbug93 on March 3rd, 2005 05:21 pm (UTC)
Yup, that's me! :) And you're Kaoru! :) Living out here in the islands does have its disadvantages... :P Especially when great theatre is so far away. :(

Thanks for the birthday wishes for my Grandmother, your hubby's grandfather sounds so young at heart too! :D

BTW, mind if I add you? I always love speaking with others who have great taste in theatre. :)
bigrivermusical: Dannybigrivermusical on March 3rd, 2005 06:24 pm (UTC)
Of course, please add me! I'll do the same :) You know your theatre darling is based in CA most of the time, and I'm in CA too, but my theatre darling is based in NYC. Life is SO unfair sometimes, isn't it :P

Thanks, I've added you! :)

Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 4th, 2005 05:19 am (UTC)
Yup, she's an amazing woman! :) I wish I'm half as sharp and as active as she is at half her age! ;)

CPK is one of my favorite places!! Oh, the Sicilian Pizza! I want one right now! ;)

Happy birthday to your grandmother. I'm glad that she is so active and I wish her all the best. Wish you a wonderful time visiting her. :)

I'm sorry to hear that work was so stressful. Hope that virus stays away from you!

Big *hugs* to you and Sydney :)
Sheri: Sydney is...shutterbug93 on March 4th, 2005 05:22 am (UTC)
Thanks, Sabine! :) It'll be so much fun for Mark & I to just get away for the weekend and visit her! It was initially supposed to be this weekend, but not everyone could make it - so we're doing it next weekend instead. :)

So far I've been lucky the flu bug hasn't gotten me yet. *knocks wood*

Hope your day is a great one, Sabine! *HUGS* to you both! :)

Happy Birthday to your grandma. 92 is a long time to live a happy life. :)

I hope you don't get that stomach bug. YUCK! I am glad I didn't give mine to Tommy last month.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 4th, 2005 06:01 am (UTC)
Thanks, Laura! :)

And I'm horrible when it comes to my stomach. I'm a big baby when I have the stomach flu - so I certianly hope that I don't get it (for Mark's sake) ;).

happy birthday to your grandma!! :)
I keep reading about your exercise and diet plan - I'm curious as to what it is!
ewwww sick co-workers sharing the 'love' with everyone else...it's nice isn't it? *lol*
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 4th, 2005 04:18 pm (UTC)
Awww, thanks Andrea! :D And for my diet, I religiously count the number of calories and fat that I eat each day and monitor that, along with making sure that I'm not eating "empty" calories. :) I also have a workout video that I do every night - it's about an hour or so and it's a combination of strength training and aerobics. I like it and it's worked for me in the past. I usually just have to put my mind to actually doing it, though - that's the hard part. ;)
Expresso Maniac: Zaffie and Millyexpressomaniac on March 5th, 2005 09:44 am (UTC)
yeah that's *always* the hard part hehe
have you ever done step aerobics before?
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 5th, 2005 05:54 pm (UTC)
I used to do step aerobics a lot (and I really like it) :) Lately I've been doing an exercise video that's supposed to be geared toward slimming (it's from the infomercial "Slim in 6") and it really does work wonders. :) I've had a lot of success with it, but it's not the most fun work out to do. :P

I've been having that "read only" problem on LJ lately, which is why I'm just getting around to commenting now!

I hope that your grandmother had a wonderful birthday. Wow, 92 years!
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on March 5th, 2005 05:52 pm (UTC)
I have that "read only" problem a lot too! :P

Thanks for the sweet birthday wishes for my grandmother! :) She's an amazing woman and I can't wait to see her next weekend. :D
