An absolute-LEE nice weekend!
In a few moments I'm leaving with Mark to go to the in-laws' house for a nice 4th of July lunch. They made sure to let us know not to forget to bring Sydney along. :) It's been a while since we've seen them, but I think they miss the fuzzy dog more than anything! ;)

Mark & I spent Friday night at a book release party for our friend (and best man at our wedding) Jon Murakami. It was really nice to see Jon and the turnout for the release party was really good. We waited in a LONG line of people to see him so he could autograph one of his new books for us. :) According to Jon, he has several new books coming out in the later half of the year - we're totally looking forward to them!

Tomorrow Mark & I are just spending a nice, quite day at home. :) We used to go down to the beach to watch the HUGE firework show every year, but as we get older, it seems more and more of a hassle... It's always SO crowded (thousands of people head to the beach each year to see it) and it take FOREVER to get out of the parking lot! In our old age, we'd rather just stay home and celebrate the 4th hassle free. :P

It's always been a tradition of mine to watch my "1776" dvd each year on the 4th. Not only is it one of my favorite shows, but I always feel compelled to watch it at this time of the year. :) Along with it this year I think I'll add a "West Wing" marathon, and throw "The American President" in there as well. ;)

Hope you all have a fun and safe 4th of July tomorrow. :) Before I head to the in-laws, I got tagged by audienceawaits :), so I stole this...

List five songs you absolutely can't stand from five artists you adore. Then, tag five people to see what songs they hate from the artists they love.

Sidenote: I'm changing this a little to include songs I can't stand from cast recordings that I love, because I'm a dork and don't listen to anything else :)

  1. "Something Just Broke" from Assassins, which is one of my favorite cast recordings - but the song I can't stand. :P
  2. "Romance II & III" from Baby, I count these two as one song - I skip past both on the cast recording each time I listen to it. :(
  3. "Rare Songbirds on Display" from Side Show, LOVE the show, HATE the song! :P
  4. "The Egg" from 1776, though I really have to say that I don't HATE it, but it's not my favorite song in the show and I tend to skip over it when I listen to the cast recording.
  5. "They Don't Know" from Throughly Modern Millie, I love Harriet Harris, but this song is... EH! :P
So, I tag:

Current Mood: mellowmellow
Current Music: Icon is more for the show than the sentiment! :P

I love the movie "The American President". It's one of those movies that on TBS allll the time.

I know, I wanted to change the meme thingee too, to include just musicals. I too can't stand "Rare Songbirds on Display" and now that you mention it, I really don't care for "They Don't Know". However, I kind of love "Something Just Broke" :( hehehe BUT I did only really start listening to Assassins once I saw the new version, so maybe I'm just used to it being there.

It's so funny watching "The American President" now (after having seen so much "West Wing" lately...) It's almost as if that could've been the pilot (okay, so there were some major differences) for "West Wing". I love the movie, though. :)

I guess I'm not used to "Something Just Broke." I'm a HUGE fan of the Original Cast Recording and I think I'm used to listening to that version.

I hear you about the 4th of July celebrations and would prefer to celebrate them at home rather than out with the masses. The older I get the less likely I am to go out and do that stuff. ;) Happy 4th!

Happy 4th to you and Joe too! :) I find that recently I just don't have the patience for crowds anymore. Just give me some great dvds and I'm a happy camper. ;)

I'm just very glad that you have such a nice weekend, Sheri. :)

Hope you all will enjoy the time with the in-laws and that you will have a wonderful day tomorrow.

Re: hrmm let's see...
Thanks for answering the meme, Kayla! I have to say that I'm not too fond of "Something Bad" either.

Wow, I didn't remember that song from Side Show; yeah, I don't really care for that one, either. :)

Happy 4th of July! :)

I tend to forget about it as well since I've deleted it from my iPod (so I don't have to skip over it) ;). It's possibly the worst song from a musical that I love. :P

Thanks so much, Karen! Hope you had a nice weekend! :D

Thanks for tagging me, but I'm not sure I'll get to this, throes of moving and all. However, I should give you at least one, so how about "My Unfortunate Erection" from Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Haha! I JUST bought "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" from iTunes last night and haven't had the chance to listen to it all yet. I saw the song as it was downloading from iTunes and wondered though....

Hope you're doing well, Kristen! I've missed you around here! :( I find that the older I get the less patience I have for crowded places. :P Big *HUGS* to you!

I've been tagged! Yay! I'll post this at my Live Journal later this afternoon.

I hear you about the 4th of July hassle. We walk to the festivities at the park every year, because you can't drive up there - you'd be stuck in traffic for hours and there's no parking anyway. So we walk for 45 minutes (around a mile) to sit for 30 minutes for fireworks. Then we turn around and do the 45 minute walk again. Oy!

Anyway, hope the 4th was good for you! =)

Yay thanks for answering the meme, Andrea! :)

45 minutes is quite a walk to see the fireworks each year! Some people in Hawaii wake up at 3am to get parking spaces at the beach on July 4th and stay the whole day to wait for the fireworks! I've never gone to that extreme, (just drove through mounds of traffic to get there...) but even finding a parking space has become a hassle nowadays.

Glad to hear that you had a wonderful 4th and that you and your Mom did get to see the beautiful fireworks. :D
