Well, that was a mistake! ;)
I did a foolish thing today - I decided (against my better judgement) to check out the calorie and fat content of some food that Mark & I will probably be eating on our upcoming vacation in LA. Ummm... big mistake! :( I'm so depressed now. :P A double/double @ In -N- Out Burger with fries and a lemonade has a whopping 1,260 calories and (get this...) 59 grams of fat! :( A cherry lemonade at Hot Dog on a Stick has 416 calories! :P And you don't even want to know how many calories are in a "love it" size of Coldstone ice cream! :( Damn you, CalorieKing! :P Sometimes ignorance really is bliss. :P

The healthy eating thing's going okay... though tomorrow it's going to have to take a back seat. We're going to be in conversion trainings throughout the day and management has graciously offered to pick up lunch for us from Gyotaku (a really great Japanese food restaurant nearby). I'm going to be bad and indulge in Scallop Kamameshi (which is flavored, steamed rice with bamboo shoots, vegetables, chicken, and - of course, scallops!) YUMMY! It's been so long since I've eaten good japanese food, that I'm really looking forward to this!

Speaking of Japanese food, Mark is getting VERY excited about his upcoming trip to Japan. He went to a luncheon meeting with his tour group on Saturday and got to meet everyone who will be going on the trip with him. He said he wanted to establish early in the meeting that Julie was his sister and not his wife. He even jokingly told me that he wanted to learn how to say, "Not wife" in Japanese before he leaves. ;) He says the thing he's looking forward to the most is the eating - and really, I can't say I blame him. :)

On a separate note, Mark & I finally got our season tickets for Diamond Head Theatre's 2005 - 2006 season. :) The season actually looks pretty good this year and it's about time I put my money where my mouth is and supported local theatre (instead of just grumbling about it like I normally do). The season starts with "The Full Monty" on September 29th - which I've never seen. The highlight of their season should be their production of "Into The Woods" next year - that I'm REALLY looking forward to! :)

Finally, I found a wonderful review of Bets' performance in "Will Rogers' Follies" that I'm going to add to her site. (There's also a GREAT photo of her with John Bisom! :) It's sad that she (and Misty) do most of their performing outside of LA, I'd love to see them both in something again. :)

Well, I'm off in search of the fuzzy dog. Hope you all have a nice evening. :)

I don't see why this is bad. (^_^)

What CalorieKing fails to mention is the all powerful healing properties of In-N-Out. The calories and the fat are small compared to the News at 11-style damage that could be done if I were denied my animal style cheeseburger, fries and neapolitan shake.

Ahaha! VERY true, I would not want to see you denied your animal style burger! ;)

Indulging in some of your favorite food while vacationing shouldn't make you feel guilty. I mean we can all afford some "bad" food in our healthy eating diet! Just make sure you walk more to off set the extra calories and eat healthier for the other meals. There's always a way to off balance things!

On the other hand - I think it's good to have a reality check once in awhile to remind you of how much of an indulgence some of the food is...kind of puts things back into perspective.

I wish we had some good Japanese restaurants around here - the few that are here only serve sushi and the typical teriyaki fare. :(

Very true, I do tend to do more walking while I'm on vacation so hopefully that'll help in the extra calorie department. But that look at CalorieKing did put my previous unhealthy lifestyle in perspective BIG time! It's no wonder I was always gaining weight! :P

Oh we have some excellent Japanese restaurants here! We have everything from the really high end places, to "fast food" style Japanese food. And I have to admit, Japanese food is my favorite! :D

Good Japanese food is healthy. As long as it isn't deep fried and there's not much soy sauce (but that only due to the salt content). Half of what you're eating is steamed rice. Steamed rice is good for you! And there are vegetables. So that's not a break from healthy eating.

(also, if you really care about healthy eating, you'll still eat junk every so often, just not multiple junk meals on the same day. Because a person does need fat in the diet, and everyone's sanity requires that cravings occasionally be indulged.)

That true! I think Japanese food is among the healthier choices for food (not to mention that it's my favorite type of cuisine!) I ended up really enjoying my lunch yesterday and I didn't feel half as guilty as I thought I would. :) Thanks for your comment. :)

I don't worry about diet while I'm on vacation at all... I say enjoy yourself.

Thanks for that link. That site is actually very informative.

Thinking of In-N-Out makes me want animal style fries. DAMN IT! LOL

I really like that site - they have a lot of restaurants that I go to that I've always wondered about (health content wise) Oh, animal style fries - YUMMO! :D

I have to agree with a couple of the comments - when you're on vacation - ENJOY YOURSELF! :) It's easy for me to say but I am worried about when I go back to Hawaii for vacation.... now that I've lost all this weight, I don't want to gain it all back while in Hawaii hehe
I don't know if I should even click that link :-P

Thanks Andrea! I always struggle with vacations... Last year my LA trip was so hard on my diet! :( Thankfully this will only be an overnight trip so I can't do too much damage in that timeframe... I think. ;)

We'll definitely have to do updated photos the next time you're back in Hawaii! Are you guys coming down for Christmas again this year? Please let me know!! :D
