Doug & Sheri

Wow, seems like people who went to my school are doing REALLY well...

...And then of course, there are people like me. :( Today I got an email from a friend that I went to college with. He lived in my apartment building in Santa Barbara with the other photography students in the area. Back then he was doing well - he's a "glamor" photographer so he'd specialize in shooting women for calendars and catalogs... While in SB, he did a short stint for Playboy shooting women for their magazines (and trust me, being the shy type of person I was - at first, living in the same building with and being friends with a Playboy photographer was not exactly my cup of tea - however, in getting to know him and finding out what a really nice guy he was - and it was just really a job he was doing, he just became a friend - and I almost forgot where he worked or what he did for a living...) By the time I graduated college, though he had moved on past Playboy and was shooting photos for the Victoria Secret catalog, the Limited, etc. so he was doing a lot of really respectable commercial work.

Well, I got an email from him today and I was glad to hear that he's doing so well - he left the old days of Playboy behind him and now has his own photography business. He still shoots "glamor" shots of women and is doing some really great work. He also sent over a link to another site of one of our other photography classmates who shoots golf related photos in Washington State, Idaho, etc. Seems like everyone who graduated from Brooks is doing a lot of really great things in the photography field...except me, of course.

2003 will be 10 years since I graduated with my photography degree and I'm almost embarrassed to answer my friend's email and admit that I've been working at the bank for the past 8 years. It's been so long since I've seriously thought of photography as a career, and quite frankly too many years have passed and I don't think it's possible for me to jump back into it... I am impressed with my friends, though and what they've been able to accomplish in their careers. Wonder what the others are up to? Wonder if I'm the only one NOT using my photo degree?

Ah well, I'd better answer his email... :)
