My voting adventure. :)

Today was the first day for walk-in absentee voting at the Satellite City Hall in the mall across from my office. I decided to take full advantage of the fact that it was so close to me instead of trying to scramble into my home polling place on election day and waiting in mile long lines (like I did in 2000). :P The polling place was crowded but I made it through and got to vote all within half an hour. :)

As I left, a man came up to me and asked me if he could ask me few questions. At first, I thought he was conducting an exit poll and I was running late to get back to work, so I said, "I'm sorry - I'm running late for work." But he was persistent and kept walking with me and said, "Then can I walk with you? I'm from the Star-Bulletin and I'm writing an article on the first day at the polls." So I stopped for a moment and answered a few of his questions.

His questions were pretty standard (though he did ask me "Are you a happy or upset voter?") :P and I answered them all until he got to, "Do you usually vote Democrat or Republican?" I asked him, "Do I really have to answer that?" He said I didn't have to, but his next question was, "In the National race, what issues do you feel were the most important?" After I answered, "Social Security and health care" I realized that he might as well just stamp a HUGE "D" on my forehead - since it was pretty clear which party I belonged to. :P He asked me for my name and then thanked me for my time. I'm interested in seeing the article tomorrow to see if anything I said actually made the paper. :P

In non-voting news, work has been a constant struggle to stay above water ever since I came back from vacation. The pile of things on my desk (and in the corner of my office) was so high, that I had to re-stack them in several piles on my floor just so I could see out of my office door. :P Our OSJ audit is in two weeks and it somehow feels like I'll never be able to catch up. :( It also doesn't help that it feels like my problem solving skills have been hampered lately because of lack of brain power (I've been SO exhausted lately). :P But despite all of my petty complaints, it is genuinely nice to be back. :)
