The Wedding... (and what happens when best friends drift apart...)

Mark & I just got home not too long ago from my friend's wedding. It was a little uncomfortable for me to go to it because although we had been close friends once (she was my former college roommate and maid of honor at my wedding 8 years ago...) throughout everything that's gone on in her life and in mine, we sadly drifted apart. :( We tried to keep in touch and even scheduled dinners out every now and then, but as time passed, we found that we really had nothing much in common to talk about anymore. Slowly the phone calls got few and far between and then we eventually lost touch... it was just really sad because we had such a great friendship. :(

At first I felt a little awkward at the wedding, I knew some of her friends, but it had been so long since I've seen her that I didn't really know most of the people at the wedding nor had I ever meet the man she was marrying! Mark & I got seated on a table full of people that we didn't know and all throughout the wedding I felt as though I was watching someone else getting married, not the person who used to be my best friend... Not only did she look incredibly different, she seemed to be an entirely different person as well... one that I didn't even know.

We sat through the program and enjoyed hearing about how she met her husband and then the slide show started... There were a lot of photos of her growing up and pictures of her with family... and then... there on the screen was a picture that was taken at her Med School Grad party of just the two of us! I nearly started tearing. There were hardly pictures of her with anyone else except family (and large groups of people)... Apparently our past friendship still meant something to her too and I was so thankful for that!

We went up to her after the program to wish her well and tell her good-bye and she immediately asked me, "Did you see your picture in the slide show?" :) After all is said and done, she's still very much the same person I spent countless hours with talking about guys, talking about life, and sharing our dreams for the future. Maybe we'll never be the best friends we once were (which is sad,) but I think we both hold the friendship that we once had in a very special place. I'm so glad I went to the wedding and so glad that I got to see her on her special day!

I'm exhausted! I'm off to get some rest... Hope you're all having a nice weekend!! Big *HUGS* to you!!
