Kevin facial hair :)

Another great day in LA & Sleeping Beauty Wakes :)

Woke up this morning MUCH too early for not having slept at all the night before on the plane ride over. :P Spent the majority of the day in retail therapy... Nothing works off the stress of work like a good day of shopping. Hit BOTH the Burbank Media Center and the Glendale Galleria and when I thought my feet were going to fall off from all the walking, I ordered a take out salad at CPK and headed back to the hotel.

At the Glendale Galleria, I saw THE CUTEST American Eskimo puppy in the pet store. :) He was white and had the cutest little face. And I could tell that I watch WAAAAAY too much "Due South" because my first thought was, "He looks just like Dief!" ;P It did really make me miss my fuzzy one at home, though. :(

Sleeping Beauty Wakes

Tonight I went to see my first performance of Sleeping Beauty Wakes. It was SUCH a cute show about a fairy tale princess (Sleeping Beauty) who awakes to find herself in a sleep research lab. Since it was a joint production between CTG and Deaf West Theatre, half of the cast was hearing and the other half were deaf - the hearing performers signed when they spoke and spoke and sang for their deaf actor conterparts. I'd never seen Big River before so I was unsure how it would flow - story wise, but it was brilliant. The deaf actors are SOOOO talented they almost didn't need words.

Kevin was hilarious as the effeminate gay insomniac in the research lab. I've never heard him sing so high before... I thought It Came From Beyond was high, but this... WHOA. And though I love comedic roles like this for Kevin, I really need to see him in a drama... SOON!

Of special note were Russell Harvard and Alexandria Wailes, who played the romantic leads in the show. Both deaf actors were voiced by others in the cast, but their facial expressions and signing matched the voices perfectly! I especially loved Russell's performance, he really gave both of his characters such warmth, just through his body language and acting. I spoke with him quite a bit after the show and he was just the sweetest, sweetest guy - and REALLY, really cute. :)

Seeing Kevin after the show

It was so nice to see Kevin after all this time... I've sort of been feeling out of touch with him lately. Didn't tell him I was coming to the show beforehand (Erika knew before he did that I'd be there) and prior to tonight, I hadn't spoken with him for longer than a minute or two. (At the Ovations, Mark had to remind me to say bye to Kevin - what's up with that?) Don't know why, exactly. Found out from him that there's going to be MUCH happiness during my July trip - and cahwyguy might be happy about the news as well... :D I also had a lot of fun teasing him because he can't seem to speak WITHOUT using his hands anymore. :D It was just really cute. :) And so nice to talk to him and catch up. :)

Another celebrity I saw there tonight

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I saw David Marshall Grant at the stage door. He'd apparently been in the audience of tonight's performance too and knew the composer. I had to contain myself from being fan-girly and blurting out something stupid like, "I loved you in Thirtysomething!! It's because of YOU that I have my unhealthy attraction to gay men!!" Thank goodness I kept my mouth shut, huh? :)

Finally, I leave you with a few photos that I took tonight for Kevin's site. I'm determined tomorrow to take a picture WITH Russell Harvard. :) He's SUCH a cutie!

Tomorrow, I'm having an early breakfast with cahwyguy and his family, then rushing back to see the matinee of "Sleeping Beauty Wakes" with careleswhisper, karmastyx, rripley, and Wade. :) Then, I'm driving to Long Beach to see "Altar Boyz" at Musical Theatre West. It should be a wonderfully fun filled theatre day. Hope you're all having a nice weekend!! HUGS!
