"The Producers" at Diamond Head, and working at the 50th State Fair...

Yesterday I took my Mom to see our local Diamond Head Theatre's production of "The Producers." Since Mark was unable to join us (due to his shingles - poor guy!) I thought it would be nice to extend the invite to Mom and make use of his ticket. :) She really enjoyed the show - and much to my surprise, so did I.

I think, for me, it was less about thinking I wouldn't like the production (Diamond Head has been putting together some VERY quality productions lately!) but the fact that I have been avoiding watching "The Producers" (in any form) since it premiered on Broadway. Not too sure why...

But, I have to admit, that I enjoyed the show. One of my favorites of the cast had to be Douglas S. Scheer (Roger DeBris) who was extremely hysterical in his signature number "Keep it Gay" AND I thought would have been an excellent choice for Albin in "La Cage" had Randl Ask (remember how enthralled I was with his performance back then?) not been available to do the role when we saw it in 2006. I also got the opportunity to see Kenji Higashihama (who I'd seen previously - and loved - in "Flower Drum Song" a couple of months ago...) who was just charming in various roles (and who really stood out from the ensemble, I thought)

I'm really enjoying the productions at Diamond Head this year - so much so that Mark & I renewed our subscription seats for a third consecutive year. :)

In other non-related news, today I will be working at the 50th State Fair, helping out in the hamburger and french fry booth for my class (or my cancelled class). They need hearing volunteers to help with the customer orders and it's a good way to interact with people from the deaf community and really put my (very little, haha!) sign language skills to practical use. I volunteered last year and it was a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to it this year. :)

Hope you're all having a nice weekend!! I'm off to catch up on everyone's entries then it's off to work at the fair! :D HUGS!

Luke & Noah

Good grief, I'm insane!

No big news flash, I'm sure, to most of you who have known me for a long time. ;) But I had been pondering my June LA trip for quite some time. I'd originally been scheduled to fly out on Friday evening (June 20th) and arrive in LA on early Saturday morning... I have a bunch of shows lined up to see and I'm meeting with a few potential clients as well.

But, then I get myself engulfed in this whole Luke & Noah thing and realize that the Daytime Emmys are being held in LA (at the freaking Kodak Theatre - where I spent waay too much time watching Kevin & Bets in 10Com there years ago...) on Friday night, the 20th!! Knowing that it's a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to do something as outrageous as that AND meet (in person) some of the terrific people I'd only spoken with on the message board, I called NWA to see how much it would cost (hypothetically) to change my flight to the day before...

Well, it appears that the cost of the flight for Thursday night is actually $100 LESS than my flight - so the $100 ticketing change fee would be waived AND I'd only have to pay $30 to change my flight...

So, I did...

How insane am I? (Please don't answer that, it's rhetorical) ;)

I'm excited and nervous at the same time, and it's kind of like when I went to the Sign Language Theatre Festival last October. I knew it would be amazing, but I'd never done anything like it so I am absolutely scared to death. Thank goodness I know the Kodak Theatre pretty well and how to get there - or I'd be a total mess.

What does one wear to an event like this?? Gosh, I don't even know! :P
