Mark leaves for Japan in just a week. :(
I can't believe he's leaving so soon - it feels as though they've been planning this trip for such a long time! Sadly, the conversion at work and our annual OSJ audit is keeping me from going with them. :( Mark has promised, however, to have a bunch of fun for me, try all kinds of exotic foods, and take a lot of fun pictures while he's away so I'm very excited for him. :) I think I'll just really miss him when he's gone, though! :(

Speaking of traveling, my business trip in November is shaping up a little and now my only obstacle is getting an approval of the department head on my travel request. Please think good thoughts for me that he'll approve it tomorrow. :) Aside from the great work related things about the trip, I just discovered that the convention hotel is within walking distance to the Orpheum Theatre (where "White Christmas" is playing!) :) I'd planned to see it on the Wednesday night that I was there, but maybe I'll have to take in a second showing since it's so close by! I also found a Mel's Drive In across the street from the hotel - so I'll be in food heaven on the trip (though I'll probably be about 400 pounds when I get home...) :P And this probably has been asked a bunch of times on MBs, but does anyone know if there's a discounted ticket site for shows in San Francisco (like Goldstar in LA?)

In more theatre news, tomorrow night Mark & I are seeing "The Full Monty" at Diamond Head Theatre. :) I know that I'm always complaining about Hawaii having no substantial theatre, so this year Mark & I decided to put our money where our mouth is and become subscribers. We've seen a couple of shows at Diamond Head in the past ("Follies" and "Jesus Christ Superstar") and we've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the shows there. We're really looking forward to the season. :D

And I'm sorry to spend a portion of my entry on this, but I have to mention "Commander In Chief" last night. It was... so-so. I was pretty disappointed to see Julie's name appear as a "Guest star..." - but Kevin prepared me for it when I saw him at "Guys & Dolls." What I wasn't prepared for was the ten or so seconds that Julie was actually on my TV screen last night. :( Thankfully, according to the previews for next week, it looks like Julie's part will definitely be increasing.

The show itself was okay. I like Rod Lurie's shows, but he has the tendency to use SO many supporting characters that we don't get the chance to know any of them too well. I LOVED "Line of Fire", but the character development of the numerous leads seemed to be a little stunted - and oddly enough, one of the most developed characters in "Line of Fire" was Julie's character - Jennifer Sampson - and it's not because I'm biased at all. :) Rod Lurie also loves to re-use his actors. It was amusing to see various "Line of Fire" folks in the show last night like Kristin Shaw, Leslie Hope, and of course, Julie. It's only the first episode so I don't want to make any sweeping statements one way or other about it - I guess I just have to see how it unfolds. Did anyone else see the show last night?

I'm off to work on my sites a bit more before I collapse. Hope you all have a nice evening. :)

The Mel's here is pretty good. :-)

They have GoldStar here, too! You can also try Tix Bay Area: http://www.theatrebayarea.org/index.jsp?mod=half_price

FYI, anything walking distance to the Orpheum isn't going to be that safe. Although if you can navigate certain parts of NYC and LA, maybe you're ok. ;-)

Want to meet up?

Thanks so much for the link! :D Now that you mention it, I think I remember seeing the National Tour of "Miss Saigon" at the Orpheum a long time ago (1998?) and I guess it wasn't really the best neighborhood. :P

Want to meet up?

Sure! :) If my trip gets approved tomorrow maybe we can work out some theatre details. :)

Yeah, that sounds about right. ;-) Although the advantage is that that BART station is literally a 20 second walk from the Orpheum's entrance. :-)

Sheri, I wanna go to Japan. ;-)

My voice teacher suggested that I check out one of the local theatres here. I don't know which one, but they're doing a run of South Pacific.

Me too! I wish I could go too... :(

Who's doing South Pacific here? :) I know someone's doing "Guys & Dolls" here (with Tina Shelton as Sarah Brown) and I'd go to see it, but I just got back from seeing it LA a few billion times - so I had to pass. ;)
Kananigirlkananigirl on September 29th, 2005 09:20 am (UTC)
I have noooooooo idea, but it's one of the local theaters. I should find out. Isn't DH going to have Into the Woods?
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on September 29th, 2005 09:24 am (UTC)
Yeah they are! Mark & I are really looking forward to that! I think it's sometime next year - I think it ends their season. :)

It seems like everyone around me is going to Japan lately. My roommate just got back from going with another friend of ours, to visit some girls who lived on our hall last year. She had a lot of fun and I hope Mark enjoys the trip, too! As for "Commander in Chief", I haven't seen it yet (because I have polo practice on Tuesday nights). I had my parents TiVo it at home so I can watch it this weekend. I was prepared for it to be only okay, and usually shows don't have a mediocre pilot and then suddenly get really really good. But you never know. Maybe it will have to just click into place.

Thanks for the nice trip wishes for Mark, I'm sure he'll have a great time in Japan. :) If nothing else the food there is reason enough to travel! :)

I'd love to hear your reactions to "Commander In Chief" once you've seen it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it unfolds because you're right, it's hard to tell from just the pilot.
Rachelreelcowgirl on September 30th, 2005 02:03 pm (UTC)
Unfortunately, I just found out that I had a miscommunication with my dad about setting the TiVo. When I asked him to TiVo it, he assumed that I'd already set it (which is kind of odd; why would I ask him to do it if I'd already done it?). So that means I got no "Bones" and no "Commander in Chief" from Tuesday :(. I really hope they show the pilot again soon. Otherwise, I'm starting from the actual episode one.

1. Cheap Theatre in S.F.
Go to http://sanfrancisco.about.com/c/ht/00/07/How_Buy_Cheap_Theater0962932855.htm

2. Full Monty
Have you see it before? It's really fun! It's touring, so you're probably getting the same cast that's playing in L.A.

3. Com-in-Chief
Ugh! I'm willing to watch it a second time. Pilots have to spend so much time on exposition, so Ep. 1 probably isn't "typical." Still... if it wasn't for Julie, I wouldn't bother.

4. Enough about S.F.!
How long will you be in L.A.? Any chance you can see more than one show with me?
Sheri: Julie Ann - CSIshutterbug93 on September 30th, 2005 10:55 am (UTC)
1. Yay! Thanks for the great link, Linda! :D

2. This is the first time Mark & I have seen it and we had so much fun! We loved it! :D

3. I have to agree - my main reason for tuning in to see Julie. :)

4. I'll be in La for two weekends. :) And I ALWAYS love seeing shows and spending time with you, Linda! Just let me know when you're free! :D

Thanks, Rachel! Mark will be gone for two whole weeks! :(

Thanks for the luck and it must've worked because my travel request was granted today!! YAY! :) I'm a compliance principal at a small bank brokerage firm. A BIG departure from photography (which you know my degree is in) - but, it's a living! :)

Julie plays Joan Greeg, a sercret service woman in the show. She was a part of the cast and then was changed to re-curring status recently. I'm SO not used to seeing her in such a small part - I think I got too spoiled seeing her star in "Line of Fire" last year. :(

Julie plays Joan Greeg

This just proves my theory that my brain shuts off after midnight... I meant Joan Greer... :P

*sends good thoughts your way*

Enjoy The Full Monty!

Thanks Karen - and they must've worked because my trip was approved by my department manager this morning! Woo hoo! :D

And Mark & I enjoyed "The Full Monty!" What a great show! :)

Oh, yay! Congratulations! :)

I'm so glad you liked TFM. It is such a truly warm and incredibly hilarious show. I wish it'd had more of a chance on Broadway. It just sort of got steam-rollered by The Producers that year at the Tonys; it deserved more recognition.
karmastyxkarmastyx on September 30th, 2005 03:21 am (UTC)
Hehehe Full Monty. :) I liked that movie. I wonder what it would be like to see it in a theatre setting.

I hope Mark has fun in Japan.

I didn't watch Commander in Chief. I wanted too, but they kept having too many commercials for it, and it looked boring to me. Maybe I'll catch it on Tuesday just to see.

It was such a great production - Mark & I really enjoyed it! :)

Well, Tuesday the episode looks like it will have much more Julie in it (more than the 10 seconds, I hope...) :) It should be much better than the pilot. :)

Wow, positive thought for your trip approval! So are you coming to SF and LA at the same time? I'm trying to see Open Window twice ;-) And Wild Party too!

When is your business trip? I'll be all over California in November too, Orange, Riverside, Santa Cruz, Imperial etc....
Sheri: Julie Jacksonshutterbug93 on September 30th, 2005 11:06 am (UTC)
Thank you for your good thoughts! I think they definitely worked because my trip was approved! :D Woo hoo! :) ANd I'll be in LA first - then flying to SF for the conference, then back to LA for the weekend. It's going to be great! :D

When are you planning on seeing Open Window? Maybe we could coordinate a show? And because Julie Dixon Jackson is in "The Wild Party", I'll probably try to see it more than once too. When are you planning to go? Maybe we could coordinate a show for that too?

I'll be in LA the 11th - 14th of November and then the 18th - 21st. Please let me know! :)
bigrivermusicalbigrivermusical on September 30th, 2005 08:57 pm (UTC)
ooooh, you'll be in CA for a long time! Well I'm planning to see Open Window twice (once in Oct and another time in early Nov). For the Wild Party, I'm planning to see it in October too. Boo we'll miss each other.
Sheri: Julie Jacksonshutterbug93 on October 2nd, 2005 06:28 am (UTC)
I'm sorry I'll be missing you in LA! :( Please let me know how "The Wild Party" is - since I'll be seeing it closer to the end of its run. :)
