GRRRR! I swear...
...I have the ABSOLUTE worst luck when I travel! :( Please, for your own safety and sanity, no one travel with me... because if you do you'll either a) get stuck in a blizzard, b) end up on a plane that has to turn around because of a medical emergency, c) get stranded in LA on the way back from Tennessee with a bunch of Jaycees, or d) have to take a later flight because the flight you had a seat for was overbooked by 21 people!!!

UGH! Why do these things always happen to me?? I was supposed to arrive in Orange County at 6:30pm... I finally arrived in my hotel at 11:00pm! :(

I'm going to refrain from mentioning the name of the airlines that I flew, but I will say that it's THE LAST time I'm ever booking a flight with them. :P The flight to San Francisco was fine (yes, for some reason they had me fly THROUGH San Francisco to get to Orange County... don't ask...) :P The problem came when I found out that my flight from San Francisco to Orange County was oversold by 21 people! :( I can understand one or two or even 5 people, but 21?? :[ Thankfully I had a confirmed seat on the flight, but when they asked for volunteers to take another flight to Burbank (which they said they would provide ground transportation to John Wayne airport) and I saw all the poor people who needed to leave on the Orange County flight, I offered up my seat to them...

Bad choice! Not only were the ticketing agents extremely rude to me the entire time (I was only trying to help THEM get out of a bad situation!) :P But the new flight flew into Burbank (just 5 miles away from where I'm staying), but I still needed to take the shuttle ALL THE WAY down to John Wayne because my luggage was sent there and my rental car (which I'd pre-paid) was waiting for me in Orange County, then I had to drive ALL THE WAY back up to Burbank to check in to my hotel for the night. :( But I did it, because I wanted to help out - I know what it feels like to have to be somewhere and to be stranded at the airport and if I could help it, I didn't want anyone else to have to go through that. :P

But what an ordeal it was! I'd gotten up at 4:30am and had been traveling since 6am, by the time 10:30pm rolled around and I was STILL not at the hotel, I was a little discouraged. :( And the shuttle ride was ridiculous! It was over an hour long, but seemed so much longer because it was in the smallest, tiniest little van I'd ever seen - with practically no ventilation. :( The seven of us who had volunteered to give up our seats were sitting so close to each other it felt like we were sitting on each other's laps. :P And if that wasn't enough, the entire trip over we were SO unsure of EVERYTHING... how we'd be transported to John Wayne, which airport our luggage was being sent to and whether it would even be at any of the airports at all. :(

Thankfully our bags made it safely to John Wayne (hours before we actually did) and, though cramped, the shuttle was fairly easy to catch and everyone at the Burbank ticketing desk was incredibly sweet and helpful to us (SO unlike the ones at SFO) :P And the good news is that I did make it safely to my Burbank hotel and I was able to get my rental (even though I was three hours late picking it up...) On the bright side, I told the ticketing agent at Burbank that it was such an awful flight over that the rest of the trip should only get better. :) I'm meeting up with cahwyguy and his family for "The Grand Tour" tomorrow night, which I'm really looking forward to, so it already looks as though things are looking up for this trip. :)

I'm off to finally get some serious sleep. My apologies if I haven't been able to get to everyone's entries yet, I promise to catch up with everyone tomorrow. Hope you all have a nice evening. *HUGS*

Even though it was a hectic travel experience, I'm glad you got there safely. :) I hope the rest of your trip goes well and no more chaos. *hugs* Have fun!!! :D

BTW, I didn't get a chance to tell you the other day when you asked. I'm going out of town (Vegas) for a friends wedding.

Sorry I deleted the comment and reposted it. I used the wrong icon lol. :P

Thanks Carrie. :) The trip has really taken a turn for the better - saw a great show last night with some great new friends and shopping always puts me in a good mood. :)

Hope you're having a nice time in Vegas. :)

Glad you made it there safely. What an ordeal. I am hoping that when I fly Wednesday it goes smoothly. I am not a good flyer anyway and I hope I don't miss my connection in Dallas as I have less than an hour between flights and hopefully the gates will be relatively close together. ;)

Enjoy your trip now that you're there. :D

Oh, connections - I hate them! They always give me so much stress! :( I'll be thinking good thoughts for you! :)

Thank you! I am so excited to go now though... I don't wanna wait until Wednesday. :D

*gazes into her crystal ball* I'm guessing this was SW, wasn't it? Don't tell if you don't want to, but they *can* be right bastids. I haven't traveled by plane in 10 years at least, but I can say that your luck does actually sound representative of what friends and relatives have suffered. So maybe it's not just you. Then again, I do understand the feeling. I feel like I have bad food karma. If I go to a new restaurant and happen to get a good dish (not too much cheese or grease, unless cheese and grease is the point of the entree, hasn't been left under the heat lamps for too long, etc.) I have a hard time ordering anything else on future visits, because it invariably stinks because I've abandoned what I "know" works.

Hahaha! No, it wasn't SW (though I am getting a bit frightened now since I'm flying SW to get from LA to SF for my conference in a couple of days...) ;) It was *gasp* United. :P

Me with my bad travel karma and you with bad food karma - boy, we sure do make a pair, huh? ;)

Holy cow what a pain in the butt!!! I'm glad you're there and probably settled in nicely.

It was a pain in the butt... very literally too! I was sitting for so long (for nearly 12 hours in seats that were anything but comfortable) that I just wanted to walk around (then pass out) when I finally got to Orange County. ;)

hey I'm sorry to hear about you travel experience but luckily you made it there safe and got your luggage :) I hope you have a great rest of the trip. :)

Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on November 12th, 2005 04:57 pm (UTC)
Awww - thanks, Kristen! :) It was so funny how my luggage was actually treated better by the airlines than I was! ;) It made it to Orange County safely a few hours ahead of me. :)

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with the flight. :( Luckily, it went out well.

Hope you found some rest and wish you a wonderful time what will compensate everything else.

Big *hugs* to you, Sheri. :)

Thanks so much, Sabine. :) I'm thankful I was able to make it to my hotel in one piece (I was in one tired and grouchy piece, but in one piece nonetheless) ;) Hope you're having a nice weekend. Big *HUGS* to you!

Oh, how frustrating! I'm sorry your trip got off to a bad start, but I'm sure that just means that all of your bad luck is out of the way and everything else will be incredible! :) Glad to hear you did arrive safely. Have a terrific time!
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on November 12th, 2005 05:02 pm (UTC)
Haha! Thanks so much, Karen! My bad traveling karma seems to follow me wherever I go! ;) And my trip has gotten MUCH better since then, thanks so much! :D
