Reason number 1,453 why I love my job & "Rent" the movie...
My boss was nice enough to let us all go at 2pm yesterday since the office was extremely quiet. As soon as the trades were processed for the day, she started to shoo all of us home one by one. :) The bank remained open until 6pm and she stayed the entire day by herself answering phones and covering for us. I really couldn't ask to work for a sweeter boss!

Due to my early release from work, Mark & I decided to go to catch the 7pm showing of "Rent" at Kapolei Theatres. We were pretty shocked that the theatre was SO empty! :( In total, there must've only been about 20 people there to see it - and most of them didn't seem to be prior "Rent" fans (they laughed at things like Maureen's "suicidal Mickey Mouse" line in "Over the Moon" as though they'd never heard it before)

The movie itself was lovely - it was shot so beautifully. I loved finally getting a chance to see the original cast in their roles. Jesse L. Martin gave a stunning performance as Collins (major *SWOOON*) - his reprise of "I'll Cover You" was extremely powerful and practically had me in tears. Adam was sweet and poignant as Roger - I'd never seen him in anything before this and I never really understood the attraction, until now... :) Wilson Jermaine Heredia was a beautiful Angel - he just exuded love. All in all I thought it was a beautiful movie and it captured the spirit of the show pretty well. I have to admit not having been so enthusiastic about "Rent" when I first saw it on Broadway (I'm not sure why - I know I was in a ROTTEN mood when I saw it, maybe that had a lot to do with it...) but the movie was very moving and I really enjoyed it. BTW, my new Collins icon is courtesy of the lovely audienceawaits - thanks Gill, it's just as beautiful as he is... *SIGH* :)

And on a completely different, non-Rent note - sadly I think I may be coming down with something. :( I woke up this morning VERY congested with a really sore throat. :( I'm just hoping I'm able to fight whatever it is off this weekend, I have a lot of things coming up next week (an important meeting I have to attend on the 1st, and then our department's Christmas party on the 2nd.) :( Airborne, here I come! :P Hope you all have a nice Saturday. :)

Alas, we didn't get to see it yesterday. My sister-in-law told us to be there at 3:30pm, killing the afternoon... and then didn't serve dinner until six. Today, I've got NSS&F while my wife helps a family friend prepare a house for receiving after the funeral, and tomorrow we've now got a funeral to attend to.

So... it's still on my list. By the way, a Hawaiian Barbeque just opened near us. Is it authentic enough to be worth going to, or is it "gringo hawaiian"?

I'm sorry you didn't get to see this weekend. :( I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. What I really liked about the movie is that Chris Columbus really seems to get it... he seems to understand what made the musical such a hit with people and he used the relationship between the characters well...

Ah! L&L! We have them here! Interesting to see they're opening a location there. The food at L&L is very greasy, very bad for you, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Certainly not for the health conscious and not for a "good" dinner. But come home from the beach, staving and worn out - it's the best thing around. ;)

I am glad you enjoyed the movie. :)

I hope you aren't coming down with something. Please sleep some, and drink some chicken soup.

It was lovely... I think Chris Columbus actually did a really beautiful job translating this to the screen. It was very moving and I loved seeing the original cast in their roles. :)

Thanks so much Laura, I slept a lot yesterday (hence the no LJ reading...) but I feel much better today. :)

I was so happy when she let us all go home - what a nice boss I have! :)

Thanks so much, Stacey! I did a lot of sleeping yesterday (which is why I wasn't around LJ too much) but now I feel so much better. Thanks! :)

Your boss really seems to be nice. :) I'm glad that you could leave earlier your work and that you enjoyed the movie. :)

I'm sorry to hear that you don't feel well. Hope that it's nothing serious! And yes, I too heard that sleep and chicken soup shall be very helpful.

Please take care, Sheri. Big *hugs* to you

She is! She's more like a mother than a boss to all of us, I really couldn't ask for a nicer boss. :) And the movie was lovely... I'm still thinking about it. :)

And thanks so much for your comment, Sabine. :) I think I must've just needed some serious sleep. I don't think I really had a chance to catch up from my trip and yesterday that was all that I did. Thankfully now I feel much better. :) Thanks so much!

Big *HUGS* to you too! :D

I do, I feel so thankful that I have such a great boss... It's totally one of the reasons I could never leave my job. :)

Oh no! It's the beginning of the flu season. :( I hope you feel better soon! I slept almost all day yesterday and I feel much better today. Take care!

the only thing to do is jump over the moon.
Day Quil and Ny Quil... wonder drugs. :) feel better.

and Collins... Jesse... OMG, I have loved him for so long... I just wish I'd seen the original cast a second and third times back when I first saw "Rent." I've listened to the soundtrack so many times I'm not even sure I remember hearing him sing live when we went many moons ago. everyone is saying that "Rent" is fantastic and I was hoping to catch it this weekend, but that's not gonna happen so sadly I have to wait until probably next weekend to chime in my own opinion, but it sounds like it's a winner. I really hope so because I've tended to hate adaptions of shows I've seen on the big screen, although musicals seem to work better... at any rate, I'm glad you had a nice holiday, enjoyed the show, and hope you get better soon. *hugs*

oh, and I LOVE your icon, but I guess you kinda figured that, eh? ;)

Re: the only thing to do is jump over the moon.
Ah thanks, Lauren! I think I just needed some serious sleep! I slept all day yesterday and I feel much better today. :)

And *SIGH* Jesse was SO great in the movie, you'll love him. :) I really think that Chris Columbus did a great job with this movie... he really seems to get it and I think that what people who saw it on the stage will really appreciate. Lots of differences from the musical, but all pretty good. :)

Glad you got to see the movie!

It's good to know another person who didn't feel the stage version of "Rent" when they saw it. I think I need to go back and see it now, especially with my life and frame of thought in a completely different place now.

And you know how I feel about Jesse. Big SWOON!

I hope you feel better soon!

I think I'd like to go back and see it again too... When I saw it I was in a horrible mood and maybe that contributed to the way I felt about it...

Still swooning over Jesse's Collins.... *SIGH* :) I love, love, love your icon - it's adorable!

And thanks for the well wishes, I actually feel much better today, thanks so much! :)

She's so sweet to all of us and cares about us like we're her children. I couldn't have asked for a nicer, sweeter, more caring boss. :)
