Due to my early release from work, Mark & I decided to go to catch the 7pm showing of "Rent" at Kapolei Theatres. We were pretty shocked that the theatre was SO empty! :( In total, there must've only been about 20 people there to see it - and most of them didn't seem to be prior "Rent" fans (they laughed at things like Maureen's "suicidal Mickey Mouse" line in "Over the Moon" as though they'd never heard it before)
The movie itself was lovely - it was shot so beautifully. I loved finally getting a chance to see the original cast in their roles. Jesse L. Martin gave a stunning performance as Collins (major *SWOOON*) - his reprise of "I'll Cover You" was extremely powerful and practically had me in tears. Adam was sweet and poignant as Roger - I'd never seen him in anything before this and I never really understood the attraction, until now... :) Wilson Jermaine Heredia was a beautiful Angel - he just exuded love. All in all I thought it was a beautiful movie and it captured the spirit of the show pretty well. I have to admit not having been so enthusiastic about "Rent" when I first saw it on Broadway (I'm not sure why - I know I was in a ROTTEN mood when I saw it, maybe that had a lot to do with it...) but the movie was very moving and I really enjoyed it. BTW, my new Collins icon is courtesy of the lovely
And on a completely different, non-Rent note - sadly I think I may be coming down with something. :( I woke up this morning VERY congested with a really sore throat. :( I'm just hoping I'm able to fight whatever it is off this weekend, I have a lot of things coming up next week (an important meeting I have to attend on the 1st, and then our department's Christmas party on the 2nd.) :( Airborne, here I come! :P Hope you all have a nice Saturday. :)
