Our Holiday Tradition
Last night Mark and I went out to dinner with Susan and Frederick for our annual Allen/Fujimoto Christmas Party. We started the tradition of having a separate Christmas party three years ago when Mark and Susan were so fed up with their workplace that they boycotted their company party and planned a separate dinner on the SAME night so they wouldn't have to go (in fact, I wrote about it in my VERY first journal entry HERE). Since then, their company has had such a bad turn out at their parties that they don't even have one anymore... We still continue our Christmas dinner tradition, though - and in many ways it's much nicer than having to go to a big company party. :)

This year we went to L'Uraku Restaurant - which is an upscale, Asian restaurant that serves "tasting menus". They have 5 or 6 dishes of sushi, salad, and appetizers before the main course. The portions are very small, but it's interesting to taste a lot of different things that I don't think I'd ever order on my own. I ended up having the Miso Braised Short Ribs and Mark had the Snapper. The food was so delicious and it was great spending time with Susan and Frederick. :)

Frederick, Susan, Mark, and I at L'Uraku. The atmosphere is nice too - painted umbrellas hang from the ceiling and the service is always very laid back and friendly.

I wish it was more than once a year that we could all go out and just spend a nice evening together. :)

Well, I'm off to Longs with the hubby, he needs to pick up more contact solution and I have to get going on wrapping the gifts for my office folks! Hope you're all having a nice Sunday!

That is me and my husband Ed ..he is online too if you want to look at his journal.
Lately he hasn't posted much but look back at some of his posts.
He is a nature photographer and is very good. He has had some problems with people using his pictures online without permission and it has stiffled his wanting to post too much of his work.
You must see it though.

L'Uraku is on Kapiolani very close to Ala Moana Shopping Center. :) I love the atmosphere there and the food is quite delicious! I held Susan's bridal shower there last year. :)

We had a lot of fun - I think the best part was getting to spend time with Susan & Frederick, because we rarely all get to go out together like that. :)

Thanks, Karen! We had a lot of fun! And because Susan and Frederick just came back from a week long trip in Vegas, even Mark hadn't seen Susan for a long time.

It was really nice to see them both and I'm glad that we have standing plans to go out one night every Christmas season to just enjoy each other's company. :)

Hope you've had a nice weekend, Sabine! Big *HUGS* to you!

Thanks, Laura! I love getting together with them so any excuse is a great one! Luckily our Christmas tradition allows us all to get together at least once a year! (Even though we do try to get together more often than that!) :)

I'm so glad we decided to do this - I always look forward to it every year. :D It's always so great to spend time with Susan! :)

So glad you have good times w/ great friends!!! It's so nice to go out sometimes in a restaurant just to eat, socialize, and talk. For us, we only do it whenever there's a bday celebration of some sort. And this only happens once a year w/ our friends. We need MORE friends!!! LOL!!
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on December 19th, 2005 08:34 am (UTC)
I think the best times I've had just revolved around talking over a nice meal. :) I really enjoy spending time with Susan, but alas,... our lives have been so busy recently that it's so hard to get together! :( I'm glad we have a set "date" every Christmas! :)

Very funny and clever to have your own dinner party on the same day as the company party! We do a similar thing during the holiday season. We plan many visits in a day so we have to keep moving, so that we don't have to stay at a certain relative/friend's house that we don't want to visit ;p

Glad to hear you had a fun time (and the food sounds delicious too)
Sheri: Sydney Christmasshutterbug93 on December 19th, 2005 08:35 am (UTC)
Haha! VERY cleaver of you all! :) The food was SO delicious!! The Miso short ribs were to-die-for! :D
