Oh my!
It was all kind of ironic (and a bit tragic), but my boss thought it would be a good idea to get one of my male co-workers a goldfish for Christmas as a secret santa gift this year. It was incredibly sweet of her and she thought it might help to foster a sense of responsibility in him since he's 25 and claims to have no intention of EVER settling down or having a family... Well, this morning we came in to work... and his poor goldfish was dead! :( My poor co-worker felt horrible!! We kept an eye out for my boss while he made his way to the men's room for a private funeral service (i.e. flushing it down the toilet) and the entire day we all hoped and prayed she didn't ask, "So how's the fish doing?" So much for nuturing my co-worker's sense of responsibility, he couldn't even keep his poor goldfish alive for one day! :(

In happier, "non goldfish killing" news, we just came home from an evening at the in-laws visiting with Mark's cousins who are visiting from Colorado for the holidays. They brought their two adorable sons with them and it was so nice to see them since we only get to see them all about once a year. :) I also had fun speaking with Mark's cousin, Tricia. Mark's family and I usually don't have ANY similar interests, but Tricia and I have always seemed to get along really well. We both share an interest of theatre and scrapbooking and we can talk endlessly about both. :)

And finally, I was interviewed by kathyselden:

1. Leave a comment saying you want to be interviewed.
2. I'll reply and give you five questions to answer.
3. You'll update your LJ with the questions answered.
4. You'll include this explanation.
5. You ask other people questions when they want to be interviewed. And it just keeps going, and going, and going....

1. What was the first show you saw Kevin in and what drew you to his talent? Love this question! It was 1776 at Reprise! in Septmember of 2001. :) He played Rutledge and the moment he sang "Molasses to Rum" my heart stopped... he had the most gorgeous baritone that I've EVER heard and his stage presence... Ah!! He had SUCH a commanding stage presence that my hands shook whenever he sang his solo. I went back a few more times to see the show before even approaching him at the stage door to tell him how marvelous he was. :) Been a fan ever since!

2. What's your favorite scent from Bath & Body Works? I love Sweet Pea. :) I used to be hugely in to B&BW, but now I've really gotten to love the scents at Victoria's Secret. "Sweet Temptation" is my favorite VS scent. :)

3. How many times have you been to NYC? Let's see... I've been there a total of nine times so far. :) Surprisingly I started going there for reasons other than Broadway, though... a little show called "Guiding Light" and a handsome guy by the name of Paul Anthony Stewart was my first reason to go. ;)

4. What is mochi ice cream? (Any kind of ice cream sounds delicious to me!) It's SO delicious!! Mochi is a very sweet and delicious rice cake. Mochi ice cream is a scoop of ice cream completely covered by a mochi layer... It may sound weird, but it's one of the most delicious things! They sell them in eight packs here for like $4.99! It's pretty expensive!

5. Given your background in photography, what are your favorite things to photograph? I love this question! My favorite thing to do is photograph people and places in their natural setting... I love photojournalistic photography that allows you to see the personality of the subject being photographed. :) I love natural light photos - I'm not one for artificial lighting... and I prefer B&W to color any day! :)

Thanks for the wonderful questions, Ashley!! :)

Hope you all have a nice evening, I'm off to try to push the fuzzy dog off my pillow so I can get some sleep. :)
Current Mood: tiredtired
Current Music: "For Now" - in my head thanks to Jason! ;)

That's sad that his fish died and that he couldn't keep it alive longer. Hopefully your boss takes it well.
Sheri: Sherishutterbug93 on December 28th, 2005 09:35 am (UTC)
It was pretty sad! :( I think the amusing part was when he blamed my other co-worker for it... "You didn't feed it this morning, did you?" he asked her. She just looked at him and said, "I think he was WAAY past the feeding stage!" Poor fish!

And he told me he's not going to tell my boss at all... he'll probably just tell her he took it home with him.
kathyselden on December 28th, 2005 03:13 pm (UTC)
#1: Some day, I will have to try mochi ice cream!
#2: Guiding Light as in... the CBS soap opera?! (I used to watch it religiously!)
#3: Thanks for answering my questions, Sheri! I'd love to be interviewed as well, if you have the time. :)
Sheri: Paul Anthony Stewart & Sherishutterbug93 on December 28th, 2005 04:49 pm (UTC)
You really have to try mochi ice cream, it's delicious! :D And I have to admit to being a HUGE fan of "Guiding Light" back in the days of Michelle and Danny... *SIGH*

My questions for you :) -

1. I'd love to hear the story behind you getting to meet Shirley Jones (you lucky girl!) and how you ended up holding her hand in NYC. :)

2. How many times have you gone to DisneyWorld and what is your favorite attraction there?

3. In your opinion, what element do classic movies have that contemporary movies don't (and what makes them so appealing to you?)

4. What's your favorite episode of "Laverne & Shirley?"

5. I love "Guys & Dolls" too (especially the latest staging I saw of it) :) What do you think makes this show so special?
kathyselden on December 28th, 2005 05:01 pm (UTC)
Oh, GL! Those were the days! In fact, my first screename was GLFan12 because, well, I was a Guiding Light fan... and I was 12. That was around the time of the whole Reva-clone ordeal, I believe. I'll answer your questions on my LJ sometime tonight. :)
Sheri: Danny & Michelle (GL) - by Sherishutterbug93 on December 29th, 2005 07:22 am (UTC)
Ah! CloneReva!! Those were the days when I started watching GL! :) LOVED the Manny storyline though (the real Manny - Paul Anthony Stewart and Joie Lenz...) *SIGH*
kathyselden on December 29th, 2005 03:13 pm (UTC)
MANNY! Oh, boy, I wish I even knew what was going on GL-wise these days but I haven't really watched it in years.
defygravity73 on December 28th, 2005 03:56 pm (UTC)
In defense of your co-worker, goldfish aren't the most pet-friendly of pets. They die quickly and often for no reason. Not the best pet to own. Poor guy. It's not his fault.
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on December 28th, 2005 04:51 pm (UTC)
Very true! I haven't owned many fish in my life, but I've heard from friends who've owned goldfish and they do seem to be quite fragile. My poor co-worker! He was even thinking of buying a new one to replace it before my boss noticed it was missing...
defygravity73 on December 28th, 2005 07:27 pm (UTC)
I had a goldfish named Wayne - Named after the boy who won him for me at a carnival - when I was in 5th grade. He didn't last long at all. Nor did my crush on Wayne, so his demise was almost symbolic. Your co-worker would have to constantly buy fish to keep replacing it. Maybe he should try another pet, like a gerbile or hamster. =)
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on December 29th, 2005 07:24 am (UTC)
Very true about potentially having to keep replacing the fish... I'd be a little scared to trust my co-worker with a a larger animal, though. ;)
the girl who's a goddess: Boromir!vsprtn on December 28th, 2005 04:02 pm (UTC)
ooh! ooh! I want to be interviewed!
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on December 28th, 2005 05:20 pm (UTC)
Yay! Here are my questions for you (sorry if they're a little silly... more proof that my brain doesn't work before 8am...) ;P

1. Do you go to the Edinburgh Festival every year and what is your favorite memory of your travels there?

2. What are the best and worst parts of your job? (I've always found what you do for a living very fascinating)

3. Roughly how many Hello Kitty items do you own and how did your fascination with HK begin?

4. What is your proudest knitting accomplishment?

5. I notice you listed stand up comedy as an interest - who are your favorite comedians?
_tropicalheart on December 28th, 2005 05:11 pm (UTC)
Awww, the poor goldfish :( Strange how it died so quickly. Maybe it was in shock from the change of environments. That happens to a lot of fish when they're first bought if the water isn't what they're used to :(

Comment! :)
Sheri: Side Showshutterbug93 on December 29th, 2005 07:10 am (UTC)
I was pretty shocked that the goldfish died so quickly too! :( Poor thing!

And YAY! :) here are my questions for you:

1. What got you interested in the Hawaiian language and culture?

2. What is your favorite animated musical?

3. I notice you listed classical music as one of your interests, who are some of your favorite composers?

4. Dolphins are such beautiful animals, what is it about them that fascinates you? :)

5. What is your favorite thing about Sea World?
_stay_gold on December 28th, 2005 05:24 pm (UTC)
Awww... poor goldfish!! Although, even some of the most experienced fish people have a hard time keeping goldfish alive until the tank/bowl has cycled. ;)
Sheri: Sydney - couchshutterbug93 on December 29th, 2005 07:12 am (UTC)
I know! I felt so sorry for the poor little thing... it never had a chance, really. :( One day... He didn't even get to name it...
Sabine: Mickisabine10 on December 28th, 2005 08:02 pm (UTC)
It sounds like you had a nice time. :)

Sorry to hear about the goldfish. But from the time I had an aquarium I remember that it can be difficult to keep fish alive and mostly I not even knew a reason why one of them died. I no longer have an aquarium but one of the fish (it looks this way) is still alive, living in Monika's aquarium and must be 7 years old now. I hope your boss was not too angry or sad.

And the mochi ice cream sounds delicious. Unfortunately, I don't know where I could buy it here.

Hope you had a nice day, Sheri. Big *hugs* to you :)
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on December 29th, 2005 07:15 am (UTC)
We had a lovely time at the in-laws! :)

Wow! Seven years! That's one hearty fish! :) I remember having a fish tank in Santa Barbara when I went to college and I had a few of the painted glass fish... they were so fragile! The temperature went down a few degrees and they all died. :( I was through with fish after that! :(

Mochi ice cream is delicious! I think you'd really enjoy it!

Hope you're having a nice week, Sabine! Big *HUGS* to you!
Kawaii Momiji-chanskittlex on December 28th, 2005 08:07 pm (UTC)
how do u manage to kill a goldfish in ONE day??!?!?!

Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on December 29th, 2005 07:16 am (UTC)
I just don't know!! :P This, however, doesn't bode well for his future wife and children. ;)
Kananigirlkananigirl on December 28th, 2005 10:59 pm (UTC)
Ooooooooh! Your boss should have given your co-worker Nintendogs instead. At least it wouldn't die. *L*

I love Bath & Body Works! Have you tried the Plumeria one? It's really good! I love the Sweet Pea one too!
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on December 29th, 2005 07:17 am (UTC)
Haha! VERY true! :)

I haven't tried the Plumeria scent... I rarely go to B&BW anymore. I've really gotten into the VS scents lately!
Kananigirlkananigirl on December 29th, 2005 10:41 am (UTC)
Well the dog in the game, supposedly runs away if you don't take care of it. ;-)

The Plumeria one smells GOOD! I went to the NEX and bought that and 2 of the Victoria Secret lotions! I got the one you like so much. Why can't we get any of that here. :-P
ex_angeldove677 on December 29th, 2005 12:14 am (UTC)
Wow, they're still doing this 5 question interviews...anyway, I didn't know you love photography. Or did I miss that? You should have been a photojournalist...why didn't you? You would have made an excellent one!!! Due to your sociable personalities, you would have been great.
Sheri: Kevin / Julie - Smile!shutterbug93 on December 29th, 2005 07:20 am (UTC)
I was a photography major in college and have actually have my bachelor's degree in photography. I was a photographer / assistant manager for a friend's studio for years, but left to work at the bank when my friend got pregnant and decided to sell the business...
ex_angeldove677 on December 29th, 2005 08:08 pm (UTC)
I knew you majored some sort of arts back in college, but couldn't remember what it was.
