My last entry for 2005...
For most of the world, it's already 2006 - but in our time zone challenged state, I still have about an hour and 15 minutes left before the New Year. :) Mark & I just got home from a party at the in-laws house which my Mom, Mark, Sydney, and I always attend. :) While we were there, one of Mark's friends (who had gotten a divorce earlier this year) stopped by with his new fiancee... What a surprise it was that she was an old high school classmate of mine! It was so nice to see her (and to see them so happy.) :)

It was also my sister-in-law, Julie's birthday today so she had her annual birthday celebration at my in-laws. She's been having her birthday party at the same time as my in-laws New Year's Eve party for years and it's so interesting to see her friends and how different they all are since I started going to these gatherings. Many of them are married now and a few of them have children. It's definitely starting to make me feel old to realize that the first time I went to my in-law's New Year's Eve celebration, was eight years ago! :O

The fireworks here are really bad this year! :( There's so much smoke in our neighborhood that it was hard to see driving home. And for some reason Sydney is barking and yapping at every single firework that pops. She was NEVER like this in previous years. In fact, we used to pride ourselves in the fact that we never had to give her tranquilizers... It's a little odd, though because the fireworks don't seem unusually loud or close to us this year so I wonder what it is? Could it be that she's getting a bit more jumpy as she's getting older? I can't seem to figure it out. :(

Poor dog! And she's been sticking to me like glue, always at my heel wherever I go. She usually follows me around the house (which is how she got named my fuzzy shadow) :) but tonight she's REALLY stuck to my hip. I'm hoping the fireworks die down shortly after midnight so that poor Sydney can get some rest! However, in my neighborhood, I wouldn't count on it. :P

Hope you all had a safe and happy new year! And I wish you all a 2006 filled with many blessings! Thank you all for being such incredible friends to me all year long! Big *HUGS* to all of you!! I'm off to go downstairs now to keep Mark company and get ready to watch the ball drop (albeit five hours delayed...) from Times Square. :)
Current Mood: thankfulthankful
Current Music: sound of fireworks and a barking fuzzy dog! :P

I'm glad that you all had a nice time. :)

Sorry to hear about Sydney, I hope she could find rest. On the radio they told that for animals the fireworks would be like a volcanic eruption. In regard to dogs, they gave the advice not to react should they be nervous but to do as if everything would be normal. It would be, thinking of their health and that the fireworks don't last so very long, not good to use tranquilizers. Instead of tranquilizers one could buy a smell in the form of candle lights what shall give up the smell of a dog who just had puppies. That shall give other dogs the feeling of safety and warmth. Or you can buy a CD with the noises of fireworks and try to get your dog used to such noises. But for that you shall need four weeks. If they had told it earlier than on December 31th I had tried one of this things. But so it was a bit late - I neither know where I could buy this smell or the CD. Perhaps, next time. Well, I confess that I petted Micki (but I tried not to show pity for her) and it seemed to me that Micki got a bit more relaxed then.

I wish that 2006 will be a wonderful year for all of you.

Big *hugs* to you

I've always been very afraid of the idea of tranquilizers. Most big dog owners swear by it, but I never wanted to take the chance. That is so neat about the candle! I've never heard of such a thing! Maybe I'll try to look for some online for next year. :) Poor Sydney was pretty scared last night though and at one point actually jumped in to my lap! :(

I hope that 2006 will be a wonderful year for you as well, Sabine! Big *HUGS* and much love to you! :)

Hahahahaha! You've no idea how hard I laughed at the phrase "time zone challenged state"!

Haha! Sometimes living all the way out here (five hours behind you all is depressing!!) Especially during the Tony awards when everyone's talking about the winners and our telecast hasn't even started yet! ;P

Happy New Year! =)

Aww, poor Sydney! I hope she got some rest last night. Chip has always been super jumpy when there are fireworks. He runs and hides under something.

Happy New Year to you and Chip, Jami! :)

My Mom's dog hides under the bed when the fireworks start. Sydney just jumps into my lap and won't leave my side! She becomes VERY affectionate when she's afraid. :)

I'm glad you guys had a nice time. The smoke from fireworks must have been bad many different places this year. At Disney, you could barely see the prettiness of it all because of all the smoke. And poor Sydney. I don't like it when dogs gets scared of fireworks, it's sad.

Maybe Sydney's new years resolution is to stick close to Sheri? :)

It's a shame there was so much smoke at Disney. :( I can't imagine how bad that must've been. :(

Maybe Sydney's new years resolution is to stick close to Sheri? :)

Heehee! I'd love that! But, alas, tonight there were no fireworks and Sydney was back to her old self (affectionate, but not like she was last night). ;)

Oh Misty is like that, too! She's deathly afraid of fireworks and loud noises :P She clings to us all shaken with fear whenever she hears them :( Tytan, on the other hand, just goes with it, and doesn't care :P He's not afraid of anything. Misty never used to be scared of them when she was a pup, until my brothers chased her around with fire crackers and she injured her paw after getting hit with one :( She's been afraid of them ever since :( I hope you had a wonderful new years, Sheri :) *HUGS!*

Awwwww, poor Misty! :( I can see why she'd be so afraid of fireworks after that incident! :(

Hope your 2006 is wonderful, Kristen!! Big *HUGS* to you!! :D
