We did some last minute gift shopping for friends and relatives today and ended up drinking smoothies and eating sandwiches at Say Cheese! again. :) I had an apple / strawberry smoothie and though it was REALLY cold outside, I couldn't help but drink it all, it was so delicious! :) Mark had a protein smoothie - which he thoroughly enjoyed. :)
We saw two shows today, Spamalot at the Shubert and Rent at the Nederlander. :) As we were waiting to be let in to Spamalot, it was freezing!! We were standing in line next to Shubert Alley and it was like a wind tunnel!! The wind was so strong that I literally thought I might blow away! :P The cold was so biting and bitter that it went right through all my layers of clothing and my thick wool overcoat. I really thought I was going to get frostbite if they didn't let us in when they did. :P
Spamalot was okay... I enjoyed it, but the only person I really wanted to see wasn't in! :( No Christopher Sieber! :( It seems that all weekend we were having bad understudy luck! His understudy wasn't nearly as funny as Chris was in even the cast recording, it was a complete and total let down. :( And I LOVE Lauren Kennedy and I think her voice is gorgeous, but sadly I didn't feel that she was able to project enough to be really effective in some of the songs (i.e. "Find Your Grail"). The new King Arthur was fine, and I didn't really mind that I was missing Tim Curry. Christian was great and funny and I was so glad he was in, as was David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria. My only sadness was no Chris Sieber! :(
I enjoyed Rent SO much more than I had the first time I saw it in 2001. :) A lot of my enjoyment had to do with Will Chase... He was wonderful as Roger. He gave him the right amount of anger and bitterness he needed without over-doing it. And his voice... I'd never had the pleasure of hearing Will Chase sing live, but... oh my gosh... when he opened his mouth and let out that first note, I was actually in awe... from there I knew that I'd be enjoying this performance. :) I REALLY liked Matt Caplan as Mark and though he doesn't have the typical "Mark" looks (he was a little too athletically built) his voice was glorious and his acting was terrific. :) All in all I really enjoyed it. :)
So ends my theatre trip here in NYC... :( It seemed to have gone so fast. :( Mark & I are already making plans to come back sometime in May... We have to see Jersey Boys, Barefoot in the Park (which has always been my favorite Neil Simon play!!!), and Pajama Game. :) We leave for our 12 hour flight home at around noon tomorrow. Hope you all have a nice evening. :) Big *HUGS* and thanks to all of you for putting up with my travel entries all week long! :) Big *HUGS* to all of you!
Yes, I'm weak... I was freezing today!! In my defense, even people FROM NY were saying that it was freezing! :P
Mark hated to admit it, but he was extremely cold too!!
And we were both shocked to find that it had snowed over night! :)
At Toys R Us in Times Square, I found a bunch of dogs that looked like Sydney!
Wah! I really miss my fuzzy dog! :(
Mark had such fun looking at all the Star Wars toys!
He ended up buying these cute M&M figures dressed as Grievous and Obi Wan. :)
Not the nicest picture of us, but we thought we'd die in the all the cold and wind waiting for Spamalot! :P
You can't see it in the picture, but Mark was holding my hat down with his other hand so it didn't fly away!
