The Wedding... (and what happens when best friends drift apart...)
Mark & I just got home not too long ago from my friend's wedding. It was a little uncomfortable for me to go to it because although we had been close friends once (she was my former college roommate and maid of honor at my wedding 8 years ago...) throughout everything that's gone on in her life and in mine, we sadly drifted apart. :( We tried to keep in touch and even scheduled dinners out every now and then, but as time passed, we found that we really had nothing much in common to talk about anymore. Slowly the phone calls got few and far between and then we eventually lost touch... it was just really sad because we had such a great friendship. :(

Yeah we're holding up this tree... :P This was in 1990, I believe...

This is when I went to visit her when she lived in Sacramento in 1993.

This is in 1996 when she came home for Christmas.

At first I felt a little awkward at the wedding, I knew some of her friends, but it had been so long since I've seen her that I didn't really know most of the people at the wedding nor had I ever meet the man she was marrying! Mark & I got seated on a table full of people that we didn't know and all throughout the wedding I felt as though I was watching someone else getting married, not the person who used to be my best friend... Not only did she look incredibly different, she seemed to be an entirely different person as well... one that I didn't even know.

We sat through the program and enjoyed hearing about how she met her husband and then the slide show started... There were a lot of photos of her growing up and pictures of her with family... and then... there on the screen was a picture that was taken at her Med School Grad party of just the two of us! I nearly started tearing. There were hardly pictures of her with anyone else except family (and large groups of people)... Apparently our past friendship still meant something to her too and I was so thankful for that!

We went up to her after the program to wish her well and tell her good-bye and she immediately asked me, "Did you see your picture in the slide show?" :) After all is said and done, she's still very much the same person I spent countless hours with talking about guys, talking about life, and sharing our dreams for the future. Maybe we'll never be the best friends we once were (which is sad,) but I think we both hold the friendship that we once had in a very special place. I'm so glad I went to the wedding and so glad that I got to see her on her special day!

She looks so different now - so glamorous and sophisticated!

I look awful in this photo, but it's the only one we have together. :P

The cute favors - the M&M's actually were imprinted with their wedding date!

I'm exhausted! I'm off to get some rest... Hope you're all having a nice weekend!! Big *HUGS* to you!!

OMG but those pictures of you and your friend are adorable!! That is so sad when such a close friendship doesn't stand the test of time and miles. I'm glad tho' that it does still mean something to her. And you. *HUG*

The picture of you and your friend as a bride....wow but your friend looks very different, you are right. And she looks much older than you. Was she always an old soul? She looks like she could be one.

Awww, thanks so much for your comment, Rita! And I have to say that she looks COMPLETELY different from the person I knew during college - I was very shocked to see her! I'm so glad that I went to the wedding, though - I wouldn't miss her special day for anything! *HUGS*

Thanks for sharing the photos, Sheri. I loved all of them but those ones of you and your friend from old times are really adorable.

I'm very glad that you found out that she, although she looks very different, is still very much the same person you knew and that your friendship has a special place.

Hope you found some rest and that you have a nice weekend. Big *hugs* and much love to you, Sheri.

PS: I do like how you hair looks. :)

Thanks so much for your comment, Sabine! We were a bunch of goofs back in college, huh?? ;) It was so nice to see her again... It's been such a long time that at first it felt a little awkward, but then I realized she's very much the same sweet person she's always been.

And thanks for your comments about my hair! ;) I'm still trying to get used to it! ;)

*HUGS* and love to you, Sabine!!

It is sad when friends drift apart. I was one of a quatro of friends back in college. I am still close with one. Friendly with another, and have no contact with the third. No matter how you try, it just seems to happy.

Cool M&M's though... :)

It's so sad when it happens, but you're right... sometimes it's unavoidable! :( It was very nice to see her after all these years, though!

The M&M's were soooo neat!! I thought they were regular... and then I noticed the dates on them - soe of them even had their names imprinted on the backs! :)

Aww, I love that story! :) I am glad that you got to see that picture of the two of you in the slide show. And she hardly even looks like the same girl... wow!!

Thanks so much for your comment, Andrea! And I'm so glad that Mark & I went to the wedding... I really was afraid that she'd forgotten all about me and that I was just an afterthought in her life. It was nice to see the picture in the slide show, it made me feel as if she remembers our friendship the same way I do... :) And you're right, she doesn't look like the same person at all!!

I loved looking at all of the photos. :) I'm glad she included that photo of you both in the slide show.

BTW your hair looks great! The color is so nice! :)

Thanks so much for your comment, Laura!! It was really nice to see her yesterday and so nice of her to include that photo in her slide show!

And thanks for your comments about my hair! I'm still trying to get used to how light it is!! :)

Aw, that is really sad. But at least you definitely still mean something to her. I guess you can't help it when people just drift apart, but it's nice to know that the time together is still remembered well. :) I have(had?) friends like that too.

I'm really glad that I got to go to her wedding, though and see her and it was so nice that she included my picture in the slide show. We're SUCH different people now than we were when we were friends, but it's nice to know that the friendship is remembered well. :)

Those old pictures are so cute! And I love the photos from the wedding...you and your friend look gorgeous! (I love the M&Ms, too; that's so adorable! :))

I'm so glad you had the chance to go and 're-bond' with your friend - how truly wonderful.

Thanks, Karen! My friend looks SO different from when she and I were friends... It was almost like seeing a completely different person!! And those M&M's were the cutest thing - they even had a few of them with their names imprinted on the backs. :)

I'm really glad that I got a chance to see her again! And even though we may never be as close as we once were, it was nice to know that our past friendship meant as much to her as it meant to me. :)

Those pictures are so cute of the two of you! It's tough when friendships drift apart. I'm glad she included you in the slide show though. :)

Thanks so much, Carrie! And it was very hard for me to accept that we had drifted apart - especially since we're SUCH different people now that we barely have anything in common anymore. :( It was very nice of her to include me in her slide show, though. :)
