First of all...
...thank you SO much to everyone who took the time to comment on my entry below!! I really value your opinions and there were so many wonderful suggestions - thank you all so much!! I'm going to spend a day or two and try to incorporate some of your suggestions before I send the links off, but I wanted you all to know how much I appreciate you!! Big *HUGS* to you!! :)

Spoke to my Mom for a while this afternoon about her trip to the Big Island this past weekend to see my Grandma. For those of you who haven't heard me speak about her, my Grandma is 93, but still as feisty and as active as ever. She's always trying to make everyone sushi and she's always laughing heartily and hitting people when she finds a joke amusing (and nearly knocks them down...) We've always said that she was so stubborn that she'd probably outlive us all.

My Mom had a nice visit with her (less than four days is a good length of time - any more and I fear they may end up strangling each other) ;) but she said that my Grandma is starting to say things like, "This is the last time I'm going to make sushi" or telling my Mom that it's the last time she'll see her... I guess older people have a different state of mind about dying, but it just makes me so sad to hear her talk that way. :( I always think that she'll live forever.

In sad healthy eating news, it's the birthday of one of my co-workers tomorrow and everyone in the office is ordering food from Choi's Kitchen, one of THE BEST Korean food places around. And aside from Chinese food, one of the types of food that I just can't pass up is Korean food... So I had to order a plate. :P THEN, on Wednesday morning one of my co-workers is picking up breakfast for all of us from Boots & Kimo's - where they have THE BEST Macadamia Nut Pancakes and omeletes around... Not a good week to diet at all!! :(

Well, I'm off to work on fine-tuning those designs. Thanks so much again for all the supportive comments!! Hope you all have a nice week!! Big *HUGS* to you!! :)

I'm going to go back to the Big Island after years of not visiting my relatives. It's finally time, I'm want to go back to see my Great Aunt. Your Grandma is from Hilo side? Maybe you know my Grandma and Great Aunt's family?

Mark & I haven't been back to the Big Island for a while. We will probably try to go in March for my Grandmother's 94th birthday. :) And my Grandma does live in Hilo - maybe our families do know each other!

I'm definitely going back, it's time to visit my relatives over there, especially my Great Aunt. Her name is Etsu Martin. Her husband was well known in Hilo, Charlie Martin. He passed away a few years ago. My Aunty knows a lot of ppl. She even knows my good friend's family the Kamau family from the Big Island too.

My Grandma's name is Yumiko Yoshida, but I have other relatives there who are in the Iida and Murazane families. They all live relatively close together and they know quite a bit of people in Hilo too - it seems like everyone in Hilo knows each other. :) I will ask my family if they know your Great Aunt. :)

I figure everyone knows everyone on that island. Well, at least maybe one person connected to each other. That would REALLY be a small world or what.

My Grandma's maiden name is Teruko Yoshida, but I think there were tons of Yoshida families? Her Dad and Mom were George Naoki (I think) and Tsugie Yoshida. They lived on Hinano Street in Hilo.

Sometimes people just "know" when they are going to die.
Maybe she does need attention but perhaps a call to your grandma wouldn't hurt.
You'll be glad you did.

I'd SO love to call my Grandma... but unfortunately she's VERY hard of hearing and refuses to wear a hearing aide (that stubborn streak show up everywhere!) ;) People will call her house, she'll answer the phone and they'll be screaming "Grandma!! Grandma!!" and she can't hear them and she'll get mad and say, "Why you call if you no like talk?!" and will slam the phone down. :D She's pretty funny. :)

She's been talking morbidly for the past few years now... But, I'll probably try to make a trip out there with Mark very soon. It's been so long since I've seen her - and you're right, I'll be glad I did.

She is a very feisty lady and so healthy for her age too! She's also very sharp -- she'll remember things that my Mom and I will forget. If I could be half as healthy and as sharp as she is when I'm that age, I'll feel blessed.

I'm glad that your Mom had a nice time with your Grandma. Thinking of the last pictures I still have trouble to believe that she really is 93 years old. I hope she will be healthy and enrich your life in her special way still for a long time.

We don't celebrate birthdays at work and sometimes it does not seem to be such a bad idea. I looked for pictures and I don't think that I could resist those food, especially the Macadamia Nut Pancakes look delicious. And, even if it's not such a good week in regard to healthy eating, I hope you will enjoy this food all the same.

Hope you too have a nice week! Big *hugs* and much love to you, Sheri! :)

I have a hard time believing that my Grandma is 93 too... She's still very young at heart and will have tickle fights with my cousin and cook large meals for our family and make sushi for all the neighbors. She is really an inspiration to all of us.

Sometimes I wish we didn't have so many celebrations at work either... Really, eating socially with my workmates is my real downfall. :P The Macadamia Nut Pancakes from Boots & Kimo's are the best!!!

Hope you're having a nice week, Sabine!!! Big *HUGS* to you!!
