Primary Elections, web work, Queer as Folk, and Hal Sparks...
So, our primary elections were yesterday... Mark & I took a walk down to the elementary school across the street to cast our ballots yesterday morning and I was shocked at how empty the polling place was... By the time I turned in my ballot, I noticed that only 240 people had voted at that location before me -- and it was almost 10:30am! It astonishes me how some people view primary elections as being so insignificant... :P

We had a VERY heated primary this year for the Democratic nominee for Daniel Akaka's senate seat. Ed Case ran a pretty strong and aggressive campaign trying to oust Akaka. After doing a lot of research and seeing where both candidates stood, I believe I voted for the right candidate, even though I don't agree completely with everything he stands for... And the people of Hawaii must've agreed with me because he won the Democratic nomination last night...

Spent most of the day today working on my current website. I've completed the final version of the shell and I've started entering real content. This is always when it starts to get exciting, because this is when I can finally see the ideas that I've been thinking of, finally come together. :) Hopefully, I'll be able to finish it completely by the end of this week.

And *SIGH*... it's over for now... my Queer As Folk marathon, that is... I finished Season 2 this weekend and ordered Season 3 off of Amazon because it was $70 less expensive than the DVD set at my local Borders... Can you imagine that they're charging $109 for it there? That's insane! The downside to the Amazon order is that it's supposed to arrive the middle of November... what the heck am I going to do until then?? *SIGH*

I'm enjoying the Michael/Ben storyline more than I thought I would... Can't describe what's so attractive about Hal Sparks, but there's definitely something about him - aside from the fact that he's an AMAZINGLY talented actor... I think it's his intensity and the sensitivity that he brings to the role - and his fearlessness in portraying it. A few of my favorite scenes from season 2 include Michael finding Ben's medication in his medicine chest in episode 7 and the dinner table scene when Debbie interrogates Ben about his HIV status - the look on Hal's face throughout the entire exchange was just incredible, and finally the scene where Brian comes to the hospital to comfort Michael when Ben gets ill - as soon as Hal says, "I don't want him to die" - I cry like a baby...

It's kind of amusing, but my Mom is interested in borrowing my Queer as Folk DVDs - since I've been talking so much about it recently. I did warn her though and told her that it was VERY graphic and it makes Brokeback Mountain look like Walt Disney... ;P My Mom's VERY liberal so I don't think she'll mind...

BTW, how inapproriate is my icon usage since I started the post completely talking about the primary elections?

I should run and work on my site a bit more... Hope you've all had a lovely weekend!! :) *HUGS*

Hal Sparks is HAWT! I've never seen him before until recently in Celebrity Duets. And he can sing too.

I adore Hal Sparks - before seeing QAF, I never knew what a talented dramatic actor he is... I HAVE to watch Celebrity Duets now!! I heard he's in the final 3! Woo!!

He is absolutely adorable!!

Now that I read about him on Wikipedia I do remember seeing him on I love the 70s and I love the 80s etc on VH1.

You should watch this video of him - a clip from QAF... what a great actor, I tell ya! :) SO cute too!! :)

Wow, I didn't realize QaF was so much cheaper on Amazon. I don't own any of the seasons as they're so expensive. If I ever manage to pay my parents back I'll probably start to buy the seasons. Aww, sorry you have to wait until mid November to continue your QaF marathon. =( Try getting hooked on another show. Have you ever seen The L Word? It's another Showtime show similar to QaF except it's about lesbians. I didn't like Melanie & Lyndsay on QaF, so I wasn't sure how I would like The L Word. I don't think it's as great as QaF, but it's still really good.

I've been watching Hal on Celebrity Duets since week one. I really liked him the first few episodes, but these last two I thought he was horrible. He's trying too hard to convince the judge guy that he is a rock star. He's basically just screaming his songs now. At least it sounds like screaming to my mom and I.

I couldn't believe the difference in the price too!! I was trying to decide, spend $109 and get season three right away or wait a month and get it for $70 less... I guess my checkbook and lack of funds won out. ;P Maybe I will try to get hooked on a new show... I've been hearing you talk about DeGrassi, maybe that's something I'll check out in the meantime. :)

Feeling compelled to start watching Hal on Celebrity Duets. :) I've never really heard him sing! I think what I really like about Hal is that he seems like such a nice guy, has great political beliefs, and he's surprisingly literate!!!

Degrassi is a nice show, but the only reason I watch it is because of Marco & Dylan. Sadly there are so few storylines involving them. If you decide to watch it, I'd suggest just downloading the episodes. degrassi_dnl has download links for every episode of all five seasons. You have to join the community to get the d/l links. If you want to start by just watching the Marco & Dylan episodes (which is what I did), they're episodes 304, 305, 319, 403, 419, & 517. Darco is such an adorable couple. This photo is my favorite of them.

This week is the final week of Celebrity Duets, so be sure not to miss it. It's on Thursday night and then Friday night we find out who won. My guess is that Alfonso will win. He has a wonderful voice.

Thank you for the link, Jami and for the dl information!! I think I will check it out. :) There's nothing I love more than a sweet love story!! Dylan and Marco look adorable together - I think I'll really love their storyline! :)

I must remember to watch Celebrity Duets this week!! I just want to have the opportunity to hear Hal sing. :)

Case was an asshole (it figures he was a Lieberman supporter).

What was your take on Hirono winning the Dem nomination for Case's vacancy?

Do you think Inouye will retire in 2010 (which will be the next time his seat is up), and if he does, who do you think will run to replace him in the U.S. Senate?
