The Ovation Nominations were announced today and Kevin was nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Harold / the Professor in "It Came From Beyond" -- WOOOO!! :)

Though the fact that neither Misty Cotton, nor Nick was even recognized for their INCREDIBLE work in "The Last 5 Years" at Pasadena Playhouse was certainly a disappointment! :(

I'm extremely happy for Kevin, though and I'll even be in the audience watching the Ovations (no backstage work for me this year!!) :)

A complete list of the nominees can be found here.

Thanks, Stacey!! :) I'm so happy for Kevin!! And last year I went to the award show too, but I was backstage working, so that really doesn't count. This year, I want to be in the audience. :D

Yeah it's a different feeling from being backstage and being in the audience. I hope you enjoy it! :) WOW HOW EXCITING!

I'm pleased for Kevin, and I'm pleased that I've actually seen a bunch of the nominees. I'm still left wondering why the Pasadena Playhouse always seems to get precious few nominations for what they do. Other than the first two shows, the others this season have all been great (and I wonder what all the nominations for Fences at the Odyssey will do for Fences at the Playhouse's chances next year).

Re: Fences. I doubt that it will have any effect. First of all, there are a lot of new voters this year and even among the returnees, not everyone saw the Odyssey production. (There were over 400 plays submitted this year. You just can't see everything!) Second, you don't vote for something over something else. You just give it a numerical score. The one with the highest median score wins.

Congrats, Kevin!
It's great to see "Beyond" get so much recognition. 6 nominations make it one of the top shows of the year.

Re: Congrats, Kevin!
It is great!! It's the little show that could!! :D Cornell's been a dear in keeping me informed about the latest ICFB news (he's the one who alerted me about the Ovation Noms) and I'm SO happy the show is doing SO well and may have a life outside the Write Act Theatre!!

Be Happy it's Half-Full!
Be happy/grateful when your faves make the list. There are over 400 shows in consideration, so it's a tremendous achievement to be nominated. Don't get upset over the ones who aren't there, unless the ones who are are unworthy. In the Musicals category, we've got CURTAINS and DROWSY CHAPERONE, both big shows in pre-Broadway runs. It's thrilling that BEYOND could hold its own at that level.

{BTW, Playbill's report of the nominees is easier to read than your list. http://www.playbill.com/news/article/102329.html)

Re: Be Happy it's Half-Full!
Very true, Linda! I'm VERY happy that Kevin was able to receive a nomination, especially among the likes of David Hyde Pierce and Bob Martin (who were both incredible, BTW)... Though I think my disappointment comes in the fact that I'm not sure I believe that pre-Broadway runs should be eligible for Ovations... If the Ovation Awards are truly to reward greatness in LA theatre, it should really be about LA theatre -- the people who earn a living and work in the LA area 10 to 12 months out of the year. I loved both Drowsy Chaperone and Curtains, but imho, they shouldn't be on this list, they'll get their own recognition at the Tonys... Sorry, jmho...
