It's freeeeezing here!! :) And 13 at the Mark Taper Forum...
Someone told me to expect cold weather in LA,... but I didn't expect it to dip down to the 40's... Last week, I heard it was in the 70's - what's going on? I know that may not be cold for some of you, but for a poor girl from Hawaii, it's freezing... :P Had we known, we would've brought more appropriate clothes... Brrrr!!!

We had a wonderful first night here... We went to see "13" - the new Jason Robert Brown show at the Mark Taper Forum last night and it was WONDERFUL... We were HUGE Jason Robert Fans to begin with, but in addition, Mark & I were extremely impressed by the talent of the cast and orchestra (all of whom were between the ages of 13-16!) The story was light-hearted and warm, touching, and engaging and we found ourselves being able to identify so completely with the characters (haven't we all seen the popular people in school and wondered if being in the "in" crowd would solve all of our problems?)

Of particular note was Sara Niemietz who played the loner Patrice... She really had one of the most beautiful voices in the cast - it's hard to believe that she's SO young! Interesting story about Sara... She friended me on MySpace a while back and I didn't know who she was... One day I saw her user picture had changed and it was a "13" promo picture. I messaged her to let her know that I had no idea she'd been cast in the show and that we were going to see it in mid January... She sent a sweet message back saying to come and say HI after the show.

As you know, I'm a bit apprehensive when it comes to waiting at the stage door when I know no one, but Mark & I waited for a bit... Before any of the cast came out, a tall man walked past us in jeans and a leather jacket... No one paid any attention to him as he walked through the crowd... It was Jason Robert Brown!! Thankfully I noticed and actually got the opportunity to speak with him... He was incredibly nice and I was just so happy that I got the opportunity to speak with him to tell him how much we loved the show. :) The sad part was that as we were speaking with him, Sara must've come out and left... so I never really got to tell her how wonderful I thought her performance was... :(

The good news is that Mark was SOOOO taken with the show that he wants to see it again when we come back in February. :)

And if you're all wondering how I'm writing this update, I had to buy a new laptop... Even though I can't afford it (and will probably be paying it off for a VERY long time) at least I have something... It really wasn't a choice for me to wait since my website business would go completely under without a working computer. Of course, I haven't had the opportunity to load ANY of the programs I once had on it, so for now I consider it just a VERY expensive internet accesser. :P Which means no Photoshop... so although I did take a couple of photos last night... I won't be able to post them for a while... :P

Before I go, I wanted to send warm birthday wishes out to my dear, dear friend, sabine10 - hope you have a WONDERFUL day, Sabine and thanks for always being SUCH a wonderful friend to me!! :)

Today we're heading out to the Glendale Galleria and then tonight we're going to La Mirada to see Camelot. I'm off to wake my sleeping hubby. :) Hope you all have a lovely Friday!!

I saw Sara Niemietz in 'Hollywood Arms'. She played Carol Burnett's young daughter I believe? She is amazing and was only about ten in that production. I still remember her at Broadway on Broadway that year singing "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" with the actress who played the older version of her role. Amazing.

13 is on my list of things to do when I'm in LA! I'm thinking about seeing the matinee on the 27th so I'm glad you enjoyed it. Do you know if they offer student tickets?

No, but they have $20 Hottix available - just go to the Ahmanson/Taper site and call the box office. For $20 - you can't go wrong!!

You have a great day. I'm taking nsshere to see 13 on Sunday. Do keep all receipts for your replacement purchases. You never know when they will come in handy... plus, as you don't have insurance, there might be a tax loss you can claim... especially as they were business assets (translation: if you don't currently have an accountant, one might be prudent in 2007 because of the website business, having to replace business assets after a theft (cost of business), and depending on the shows you see and who your clients are, the show travel might even be deductable).

I'm pretty confident that nsshere will love the show. It's intelligently written and VERY heartfelt - plus the talent of the cast was unbelievable!!

Thanks for the tips on the new laptop. Mark & I will definitely be seeking out an accountant this year for our tax preparation - due primarly to my business. Next year will be interesting though as we'll need to remember to ask about all this robbery stuff. :P

Do remember to keep receipts for your trips, especially if any of them involve visits to your clients or taking photographs for the pages. I'd recommend my father-in-law (he's in Woodland Hills), although he should be retiring soon (but we joke he'll retire when they pull him out of his office feet-first!). I know he'll be in Hawaii in August, becuase he's planning to use my timeshare in Maui the last two weeks of August :-))

I'm so glad you're having such a great time! And I'm glad you loved 13 so much...JRB played a song from it at the concert he did in Toronto in October and I really liked it! (As if I could dislike anything he wrote... :)) How fun that you had the chance to meet him as well!

I hope you guys continue to have a wonderful time. :D

Glad to hear you are enjoying the trip in L.A.. I have a question, did you get the tickets for 13 via Hot Tix or Goldstar? How were the seats and view?

I hope you enjoyed Camelot too. I'm thinking about seeing it in SJ.

Got my tickets through Hottix for 13. The Taper is such a great, intimate venue that I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. We were in the last row, but the view was fabulous!

Camelot was only okay... Some great performances, but not something I'd recommend, unfortunately.

I had heard that it was dipping into the 20's in the valley... That's WAAAY too cold! We're driving to Fresno tomorrow morning and I think it'll be much colder up there!
