A quick update from LA...
...thankfully all went well on Wednesday and I managed to make it out of work (just barely) in time to catch the red-eye flight. :) One of my co-workers ended up on the same flight to LA as I was on so it was nice to have someone to spend time with as I waited at the airport. :)

The hotel that I'm staying in this time is a different one from where I normally stay. It's... much nicer. It's right near the Van Nuys airport and I found it through Priceline. :) The beds are SOOOO comfortable - which is a good and bad thing... It feels like I'm sleeping in a HUGE marshmellow! The bad part, of course, is that I've been very unproductive since I got here and all I want to do is sleep. ;)

Last night I went to the Mark Taper Forum to see Distracted - a straight play about a family who deals with a nine year old son who is diagnosed with ADHD. Rita Wilson (who I've really only seen in "Sleepless in Seattle") was incredible as the mother and central character in the show. Bronson Pinchot (who I love in "It's My Party" - that independent film that I adore) was hilarious as the multitude of different doctors, therapists, and consultants that he had to portray. The only other person I recognized was a much more grown up Emma Hunton - who I remember from Les Mis.

The show itself was interesting and ended up giving a rather bold message about ADHD... that medication may not be the answer for every child and that perhaps what we refer to as a "disorder" is what, in the past, has allowed us some of the greatest free thinkers in history to do and create wonderful things... It was certainly a thought-provoking show and it was uniquely staged - in that the supporting roles were all alternately played by the supporting cast, who, in a "breaking the 4th wall" kind of way, knew and were asked if they could play these parts and were spoken to out of character from time to time. Another unique element was that we, the audience, never get to see the central character - (the nine year old Jesse) until the end of the show. All we know of him is what others say and what we can hear of him yelling down from his room.

I'm really glad that I ended up seeing this show. It was very thought-provoking and if nothing else, it certainly gave me a new perspective to ADHD and those who have to deal with it first hand. If you're in the LA area, I highly recommend it.

Today I'm heading out to do some shopping (YAY!!!) and then it's off to Culver City for my first showing of "Sleeping Beauty Wakes". I can't wait!

Before I end this, I wanted to send warm birthday wishes out to my favorite set of twins! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, careleswhisper and karmastyx!!! Hope your birthday is fabulous!!!

Hope you all have a lovely Friday!

Emma! (I'm afraid to ask how old she is by now, but it's great that she's still acting.)

She was great in the show! (And I believe her MySpace page says that she's 14 now!)

Let me guess: You're at the Airtel Plaza :-). That's the only hotel near VNY that is any decent.

Karen is down to the OC tomorrow for a nephew's B'day party, and Erin's got at 10:30am Bat Mitzvah in Encino. If I can get them up for it, and get you up for it, do you want to meet for breakfast tomorrow morning before everything? I'd suggest a great deli not far from you: Weilers, at Nordhoff and Balboa. If you get a break, feel free to give us a call. I think you still have my cell; home is seven seven two five zero nine eight, in the valley's area code.

Yes, that is where I'm staying. :) On my way wandering around (half lost and half trying to kill time before I could check in...) I roamed around your neck of the woods. :)

Breakfast sounds fun. :) But my gosh, you guys are sure busy!! I'll understand if you're too busy to meet. Send me a line if it works for everyone's schedule... I am pretty close by, it seems. :)

I'll check with Karen, and give you a call later. What are safe times to ring your cellphone, given tonight's show for you?

I'm good with the cell phone all day - I meet Lily at 7-ish so anytime before then is good. :)

(1) I'll call you when I get home, but I do think breakfast is on.

(2) Do read this article from the LA Times if any of your shows are downtown on Sunday. There is Fiesta Broadway that will be closing a number of streets. You may be much better off driving to N. Hollywood and taking the Red Line subway into downtown, and walking if you need to.

Thanks for the link and for the link for the breakfast place. Looks great! I'll see you guys tomorrow morning! :)

Ok, Sheri, we're on for 8:45a at Weilers Deli. You're basically near Sherman Way and Hayvenhurst. Just come out of the hotel onto Sherman Way, make a right, and continue to Balboa. Take Balboa north until you reach Nordhoff. It is in the shopping center with the Albertsons, across the street from the big Target.

The bed is so comfortable, it just feels like it swallows you up! :) I SOOOO don't want to get up in the morning, though,... that could be the only downside. ;)

Big HUGS to you, Sabine!! :)
