Took Sydney to the vet today
The Good News First...

The good news is that the vet says that she thinks there's only a VERY small chance that Sydney's vertigo could be caused by a brain lesion or something more serious. She said if that was the case, Sydney wouldn't be as alert as she is and she wouldn't be playing with her toys or looking and acting SO upset about being at the vet. That was definitely a relief to me - because I'd been so worried that it was some sort of brain tumor or lesion...

The Bad News...

The bad news of course is that without doing an MRI (which is not available for pets in Hawaii) they really can't know the real cause of the vertigo. She looked in Sydney's ears and insists they look fine, but thinks that there's a slight possibility that she has inner ear infection. Of course, there's no way of knowing, but she gave me some antibiotics to give Sydney to see if it helps. If it doesn't we'll have to bring her in and try something else... :(

The vet visit did allow me to put some of my earlier fears somewhat to rest - so it was pretty positive all around. Sadly, the vet couldn't tell me if her condition was permanent or not, which is still quite a troubling thought...

On a good note, my Mom had some time to think about the whole watching-Sydney-while-we're-away thing and she seems to be okay with it. :) Hopefully the medication will work and Sydney will be much better by then...

On a completely separate, and MUCH less depressing note, there was a fabulous article/interview with Kristi and her Phantom co-star Tim on BWW.Com. :) I just couldn't be happier for her! :)

Hope you're all having a nice week - I'm off to catch up on all of your entries and comments. Big HUGS to everyone!

I'm glad it's most likely not a brain lesion - that would be scary. I know it's frustrating that you still don't have a reason this is happening, or a way of knowing when she'll be better. Yay that your mom can watch her! I hope she's much better by the time you leave!

We're SOOO thankful that my Mom is getting used to the idea of watching her! :) And we're thankful that it doesn't seem to be a brain lesion... But she still isn't getting better and that's quite troubling... :(

That makes me feel better about Syd too! I hope it all gets worked out soon, and that the fuzzy dog gets through this.

We're VERY thankful that the doctor doesn't think it's a brain tumor or anything... We are saddened by the fact that she's STILL not better, though... :(

I agree, I was just really concerned that it was going to be something like you just suggested. So are you going to take Sydney to the mainland to get her and MRI? Is that to pricey to do? I would imagine it would be.

Unfortunately I don't think it's an option to bring her to the mainland to get an MRI... :( I don't think that she'd survive quarentine when we brought her back. :(

I'm glad to hear the good news! Also, I'm glad that your Mom can watch Sydney during your trip and I hope that the antibiotics will work so that Sydney feels much better then.

Big *hugs* to you, Sheri.

I think my greatest fear was that Sydney had a brain tumor or something, but thankful the vet doesn't think that it's likely given the way she's acting. We are quite troubled that Sydney hasn't gotten any better, though...

Thanks for your comments and the HUGS - big HUGS to you!!
