I think we've found the cause of Sydney's vertigo...

I spoke with the vet in depth tonight about Sydney's worsening condition and I mentioned that I thought I read somewhere that some dogs have a bad reaction to some antibiotics... We talked some more and realized that the metronidazole that we've been giving her for her liver might be causing the vertigo...

The vet prescribed it on May 21st and Sydney had her first serious bout with vertigo on June 7th... And it's the only medication that we've been giving her consistently throughout all of this. The side effects of metronidazole especially in dogs with liver disease could be dizziness, vertigo, the side to side eye movement in extreme cases.

We're going to stop giving it to her starting tonight. Please, please - if you are of the praying sort, please say a prayer that we caught this in time - because if we did, the effects could be reversible...

So while I'm glad that we've come to this conclusion and know what's wrong, I'm also VERY worried that we've discovered it too late... Thank you all so much for your kind comments in my entry below - I will be back to respond to each and every one of them after we feed the dog.
