Petwalk was such fun!
But so tiring! :P It was only a three mile long walk, but having to get up at 5am on a Sunday made the course feel that much longer for some strange reason... :P Sydney really surprised us and seemed to adjust well to the 500 or so other dogs around her. She was also quite a trouper and really only had to be carried for a few yards down the home stretch (it could only be a few yards because at 22 pounds she was a little too heavy for me to lug all the way to the finish line...) :P

I saw a few dogs who stopped in the middle of the course and just sat there - refusing to go any further - and I really felt for the owners. Most of those dogs weren't small (and easily carried) and as much as the owners tried to prod them along - it was no use. Some of them had to leave the course and others just had to sit there as everyone else passed them by... :( I was really lucky that Sydney was at least able to make it across the finish line. :)

AND I dusted off my serious camera for the first time in a LONG time and had a lot of fun taking pictures. :) There were tons of dogs dressed in cute costumes and there were so many opportunities for great photos... but my favorite subject all day was still Sydney. :)

We were pretty worn out when we got home that all three of us immediately fell asleep. :P Mark got up for a bit in the early evening, but Sydney and I were pretty out of it the whole rest of the night. :P

I'm not sure how much money was raised for the Hawaiian Humane Society, but it always warms my heart to see so many animal lovers out raising money for such a great cause. :) I can't wait to do this all over again next year... though I'm sure Mark and Sydney probably can. ;)

It sounds like you had a wonderful time. That's awesome. :) All I can say about the picture of Sydney is WOW!!! You take awesome pictures. She's so cute and you captured that very well.

That is a GREAT picture!!!!!

Im glad you started to use the camera again - that is a truly awesome picture! Such a cutie!

Sounds like the walk was fun. Three miles might not sound like much - but it really is - especially if you are like me and dont walk much. I did a 3 mile breast cancer walk last month... and it always turns out more than that - because you usually have to park far away - then walk around before hand and after, etc. So its a lot of walking... woo hoo to Sydney for making it! And you guys too!

I love events like that - with animal lovers showing their support - its a feel good event! Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for your nice comments about the photo. :) Sydney's such a ham when it comes to posing for pictures. ;)

The walk was great fun! :) And the actual walk itself was nice (I don't usually do a lot of walking - but it didn't seem long at all!) And you're absolutely right, what really made us tired was the "other" things associated with the walk: the waking up early, the parking almost 3 miles away to begin with :(, the worrying if other dogs were going to harass Sydney, and being in the hot sun the whole day. I think all those things were more exhausting than the actual walk itself! :)

It was fun though and I'm really looking forward to next year. :)

Wow, what a beautiful dog! It's neat to see a new picture of her.

Thank you! :) Poor thing had to pose for photos for me as she was being barraged by other dogs and probably scared to death. :( I think that's the reason for her "radar" ears in the photo. ;)

Sydney is awesome! Of course I might be just a little partial to
that certain breed of dog! Now that you have your "serious" camera dusted off can we expect to see more photos of Syd? Or maybe Hawaii? Mort would have loved something like that, but I don't think even he could have talked me into getting up at 5 a.m. Yuck! He loves to walk, and loves other people and doesn't mind other dogs! We took him to the Memorial Day Parade, he has such a big ego, that he thought the whole parade was for him lol
He loved, everyone was coming up to him and petting him and talking to him..he was in heaven! He behaved beatuifully! He kept on looking at all of those other dogs that were acting up like they were crazy! The only thing he didn't like was the 21 gun salute! Your dog must be smaller than Mort, Mort's last vet appointment he was 34 lbs, and I think he has gained some since then, he is a little bigger than the average Sheltie, and I think right now a little overweight! Does Sydney's ears ever fold over? OK I think this is long enough Bye

Barb - your comments just make me smile - thanks so much for cheering me up especially since I really needed it today. :) Mortie sounds great - when are we going to get to see some pictures of him? And Sydney's ears used to fold over when she was a puppy, but we never trained them and she eventually grew out of it and now we can't get them to bend. :( Did you have to train Mortie's ears?

We never trained them either. When we first got him, he was six months old, one ear bent, one ear didn't. Now neither ear bends. I always wondered why. You have solved my mystery!!!
Em and I have to sit down and try posting pics. I have an awesome pic of my hubbie and Mort! Thanks for the kind words
happy I could make you smile!!!!

500 other dogs - Lauser never met such a big group of other dogs, up to now. I think he had been confused, at least so confused that he had not growled or barked at other male dogs. :)

I'm glad to hear that you had a wonderful time. Sydney is such a lovable dog, she looks great. Thanks for sharing the photo. :)

Take care

500 dogs were an awful lot and at first I was worried about Sydney freaking out, but she surprised us all and did very well. :) Thanks for the kind words on the photo, Sydney's such a ham! :)

Thanks so much for your kind words about the photo. :)

One of the best things about the walk (besides raising money for a great cause) was getting to see all the beautiful breeds of dogs in the islands. After last weekend I want to get another puppy! :)
