On a different - though somewhat related note - I spoke to my mother tonight after the memorial service and it appears that my grandmother is having a problem with her eye. They're not sure exactly what's wrong, but one morning she woke up and couldn't see correctly out of it... :( They think it might've been a mild stroke, but they're going to run some tests to make sure. My Mom says she's fine though and there's no reason to be concerned, but I'm just a worrier by nature...
My grandmother recently celebrated her 90th birthday and she has such a robust and feisty personality that we've always joked that she was way too stubborn to pass away and that she'd probably outlive us all. She still lives on her own and wakes up every morning at 4am to tend to her yard and cook amazing meals and even carries burning hibachis around her back yard. It's been a while since I've gone for a visit and I'm suddenly feeling the need to go to the Big Island to see her. If nothing else, the events of the past week have made me realize I shouldn't take anything for granted.
