Can't get anything for free these days...
I knew it was too good to last... Bravenet's website counter/stats is not a free service anymore :( - I mean it is free - if you want a crappy looking counter with a tacky looking ad on it. :( Other than that it's $9.95 a month... :P That's outrageous! :( I depend a lot on my stats page on my site to determine where people are coming in to my sites from. To top it off, I just checked my "free" stats page and it's obviously gone wonky on me - it says all the hits occurred on December 31, 1969 at 4pm... HUH?? Does anyone know any other RELIABLE website counter/stats service that's a little more reasonable?

On the brighter side - work seems to be going pretty well... And no, that's not a typo. ;) I've gotten back into selling (I was basically just administrative before) and I've been enjoying myself a bit more at work recently. Yes, hard to believe... ;) My bosses' numbers are even starting to look a bit better this month. :) The huge talking to the other day must've been the swift kick in the pants that we all needed! :)

And I'm slowly getting used to this new computer, though I have to say that I'm really NOT enjoying Windows XP. :( Maybe it's just me, but something about using XP and Internet Explorer crashes my brower window each time I go to a message board... It might just be my security settings (which I thought I already examined), or something else - totally not XP related, but I've been forced to use Netscape recently - and you know how I am with technology changes - it's almost as bad as Mark and his fear of life changes. :P

Lastly, tomorrow is my Mom's birthday and Mark and I are taking her to eat a nice breakfast on Sunday at her favorite breakfast place. :) We wanted to take her out to dinner tomorrow night, but she prefers to eat breakfast. :) I can hardly blame her, there's something special about breakfast food (maybe it's because when I was growing up, I never woke up early enough to eat it...) :P

It's sad that they charge for almost everything on the net anymore.

I'm glad to hear that work is getting better for you. :) That's always a plus. :)

I don't care for XP either so you're not alone. Tell your mom I said happy birthday. :) I hope you all have fun Sunday at breakfast. :) Take care.

I know...nothing's free anymore... :( Pretty undecided on what to do - since I've been using Bravenet for the past two years - technology type changes don't sit well with me... ;) And glad to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't like XP - Mark said I was the only one who would CHOOSE to use the classic window setting on my desktop over the new XP option :D. I still hate the way it reacts to certain web sites though... I'll have to do some reading about XP and all of its bugs... And thanks for the well-wishes for my Mom. :) Take care too and have a nice rest of your week! :)

Awwwwwww no way that sucks! Bravenet was okay, I use uhm.....

http://www.statsmachine.com/counter.html for my counter.
If you want to try it?

I'm using sitemeter.com too if you want to try that for stats.

Ohhh - thanks so much Rayna!! I just checked out the statsmachine URL and it seems wonderful - I'll probably have to decide which service I'm going to end up using tonight... Thanks so much for the information - you're so sweet! :)

Grrr bravenet is STUPID! I use those counters for my sites too. I guess it's not a huge deal for me but still it's nice to see how many people visit your sites! Are the guestbooks still free? *crosses fingers*
Sherishutterbug93 on July 10th, 2003 09:00 am (UTC)
Totally gotta agree with you there! :( And as far as I know their guestbooks are still free - they have the ads all over the tops of them (still) but that's okay by me... I just want my stats page back! :( Are you going to continue to use them or are you looking around for another counter too?
Meredythbroadway_rose on July 10th, 2003 12:16 pm (UTC)
I'm not really sure.. I just think I'll just not have a counter on my sites b/c it's not a huge thing b/c my sites aren't official like yours.

Dont ya just love it when something you have been using for free decides they dont want to be free anymore... you are so used to it - and its such a hard decision... do you not use it anymore - or do you suck it up and pay - since you really like it and have used it for a while. Blech.

You just talking about breakfast foods makes me want them! I havent had breakfast food in a long time - like a nice huge breakfast - with everything! Mmmm! Im gonna have to get some of that in Vegas!!! YUM! :-)

Blech is right! I was so used to Bravenet. It must've been their ploy all along to hook me so now I'll have to pay their outrageous fee. :( If I do change counters though I need to find one that will let me start at any random number. My site recently hit 10,000 hits, I'm not starting at zero again... Gah!

And Ahhh - breakfast food is wonderful! :) And Vegas is certainly the best place to get a great breakfast (Main Street Station buffet - YUM!) :)

I'm glad to hear that things at work are going better and I wish that it goes on this way. I'm still using Windows ME so I don't know Windows XP but a friend of mine and my sister's husband always complained about it in a very ugly way.

Happy Birthday to your Mom. And yes, I couldn't specify it but there is something special about breakfast food. :)

Take care and I wish you a nice Friday :)

Interesting to hear that other people don't like XP too. I was beginning to think it might just be me not liking change. ;) I keep thinking that maybe I'll get used to it, but I've been missing my Windows 98 recently - and that's pretty pathetic. :(

Thanks for the nice birthday wishes for my Mom. :) Take care, Sabine and hope you have a great Friday too. :)
