Seeing Van in DDR & my wonderful upcoming NYC trip!!

The last part to my NYC trip that I have not mentioned yet is seeing Van in Dance Dance Revolution. MUSICAL THEATRE + VAN HANSIS = my perfect weekend. :D :D Add to that, randomly seeing Lin-Manuel Miranda in the audience of DDR on Sunday night and I was in broadway heaven!!

The show itself was quirky and silly - VERY reminiscent of shows like Sneaux where NOTHING is off-limits in terms of humor... I did like it MUCH more than Sneaux though - especially on Sunday, which I thought was a much stronger performance by the entire cast.

There were some hysterical RENT references throughout the show, some parodies of West Side Story (i.e. the fight/dance sequences...) and lots and lots of avant guarde humor. Admittedly not my favorite type of show, but it was enjoyable and great to see Van on stage in a role very unlike anything I'd seen him do before.

Van was SUCH a dear and so personable when we stayed to see him after the show. Not only did he stay to talk, but he really made an effort to thank us for coming to see him. The one thing I appreciate more than anything about him is that he really seems to listen and care what we tell him - on Saturday night I told him I was seeing Altar Boyz and when we saw him on Sunday one of the first things he asked me was, "How was Altar Boyz?" VERY sweet!!

And I have to say, for all my shyness and fumbling around at the Flea Market and at the Emmys - I had NO trouble talking to him here... Not sure if it was because the stage door thing is something I do all the time and I felt a little more at ease talking about a show with him than a soap... who knows? Whatever the case, it was an incredible encounter that I will never forget and Van was an absolute DEAR to us and I can't thank him enough for his sweetness. :)

Van was an absolute DEAR and SO wonderful to us at the stage door!!

The "HUGE SMILE" photo... Our smiles are just a bit too big and INSANE here, but it was a fun photo! :)

Finally, I am SOOOO happy because Mark has agreed to join me on my annual mid-January theatre trip this year!! It's actually my Christmas gift to him - it should be A LOT of fun!!

Here's our theatre schedule for January:

17th (mat) - South Pacific
17th (eve) - The Marvelous Wonderettes
