New year, new computer...
I bought a new computer. :) My old laptop was purchased as a spur of the moment replacement for my stolen laptop two years ago and I never really had the time back then to fully research and buy one that had the specs that I really wanted... at the time, I just needed a computer to work on my sites.

So, recently, it became very clear that my old laptop was VERY insufficient in terms of RAM, hard drive space, etc. for me to effectively keep up with my website business. And when I dropped my computer bag recently at O'Hare and screwed up the battery, that was the final straw... So I finally did some research and bought a computer that I really wanted.

Now those who know me well know that I'm a person who doesn't deal well with technology change (all other changes I love)... I rarely want to upgrade the programs I'm using - I'm probably the only person out there who actually configured my old laptop to have the "classic windows 98" look even though I was reluctantly running XP... That being said, I HATE WINDOWS VISTA. Hate it. Mark said that I just need to get used to it... but it's awful and I'm really, REALLY not liking the way it renders my IE browser (WHERE the heck is my favorites menu? and WHY on earth would clicking an arrow for a folder in the favorites menu open ALL the pages in that folder?? Who would do that??) :P

Vista aside, I'm really liking my new laptop... it's smaller and lighter than my old one and it has MUCH more hard drive space and a lot more RAM (thank goodness!) I still haven't been lured over to the "mac side" just yet (though Mark always tries...) I'm a PC person through and through... Maybe one day. ;)

Hopefully I'll be able to get used to Vista... at least enough to bond effectively with my new laptop. ;) Hope you're all having a nice start to the new year! :)

I did that, too! The "classic 98" thing on XP. In part because I thought the XP theme looked really inappropriate for the office, which is where I was running it. Especially in the taskbar - really, green and blue like for a kindergarten classroom are appropriate for the office? And the silver version looked like crap.

I turned off all the sidebar stuff with Vista and it's been fine for me. Of course, I also use Firefox as a browser, so I have no idea what stupidity might be involved in the newest version of IE. Just go into options (which should be under Tools), and there should be a way to adjust what it does with bookmarks, tabs, everything.

I have to agree - the colors and themes in XP were not professional looking at all!!

Since the entry, I have been fooling around a bit with the tools menu and was able to get back a toolbar that somewhat resembled my old version of IE... If I can only figure out how to get rid of the stupid tab things beneath it, I'll be much happier. Vista SUCKS.

I am in a similar boat.. but I have to be honest, I have had this thing for 6 months +, and I STILL FUCKING HATE VISTA, and wish DEATH on whoever created it. Well, maybe not that bad.. but bad skin, at least.

I have been putting it off, but I am going to take this to the shop, pay the money and have them put XP on it.

Ahaha!! Yes, let's wish bad skin upon them,... dammit! ;)

I'm thinking about doing that too... I mean, there are some things that look cool on first glance, but functionality wise,... IT SUCKS! :P

Everyone I know who uses Vista has changed it back to "Windows Classic" or whatever the setting is to make it like XP was. Vista is the future? No thanks. :)

I still can't get used it... And I do have to admit that some things LOOK nicer than XP, but shoot... I'd rather have something that works well, rather than looks nice. :(

We got our laptop early last year, but thankfully it came with XP instead of Vista. Neither of us do well with change of ANY kind, so we definitely feel your pain. We've heard Vista can be hard to get used to, so here's hoping you can get things figured out!! HUGS!!

You're lucky!! I had the choice of buying this laptop or another lesser one, which came with an XP downgrade disc... The fact that they even SELL something like a downgrade disc should say something... This sucks. :P

I can't say something about Windows Vista but I can tell you that you are not the only one, who went back to the "classic windows 98" look but me too. :) I'm crossing my fingers that you get used to Vista and sending big hugs to you! :)

Thanks, Sabine! As it is, I don't deal well with technology change, even when the change is good... so this is twice as hard. Bleh. But on the upside, my computer doesn't crash now whenever I try to save my web graphics. :) Big HUGS to you, Sabine!
