Pippin for the last (TWO!) times...
And so I've gone and done and done my impulsive theatre trip and though I got almost no sleep on Friday night on my red eye flight, and I didn't get any sleep on the way home,... I have to say that the trip was TOTALLY worth it! Seeing the show at this late stage in the run is amazingly special and really allows me to appreciate it so much more!

Michael Arden / Ty Giordano - they couldn't have hired two more perfect actors for this role. Michael's voice is AMAZING! I got goosebumps at the end of "Morning Glow" and the only other time that happened was when I first heard Kevin sing "Molasses to Rum." And his voicing of Ty's Pippin is PERFECT. He almost doesn't need to watch him anymore... it's like they're in synch or something. I notice that Michael sings the role a lot differently than he did during the AIDS day benefit concert, but I think that's because trying to voice another person means toning down some parts of the song to fit the emotion that he sees being portrayed by Ty.

Michael Arden -- Loved how, in the evening show, as they were carrying him away at the end, he signed, "I thought we were friends!" I'd never seen him do that before - he usually only signs, "Help me - please!" Also I can't say enough how much I loved his expression when he turned around with the flowers to discover Catherine and Pippin kissing. He looks hurt, left out, abandoned... LOVE it - breaks my heart each time.

Troy Kotsur - I adore Anthony and I'm SO glad I got to see him go on as King Charles, but Oh.My.Word. Troy is absolutely HYSTERICAL!! He has to be one of the best physical comedy performers I've ever seen, his facial expressions and his signing is ridiculously funny. And Dan REALLY looked like he was having a ball voicing him... even doing the little grunts, etc... :D If it's possible, Troy was even funnier than when I first saw him in February. :)

Dan Callaway - one of the most unsung heroes of the entire production. Glorious voice and just so great voicing King Charles... But unlike Michael Arden, we almost never get to see him. He's either hiding in the shadows, or lighted off stage near the audience. He was so wonderful, but I feel is always overlooked because of the way they've utilized him. :(

James Royce Edwards - sadly he never really gets to sing... And I miss his voice. :( But he's hysterical when he's on stage. He gets to flex his muscles a lot :), and have some really comedic moments. :) Not to mention playing up his very inappropriate relationship with Fastrada.

Harriet Harris - her signing has improved SO MUCH since I've seen the show in February! It looks so second nature now and it gives her more flexibility to be funny. She was funny when I saw the show in February, but now... she's adding little things to her performance to make it even funnier.

Got to see and speak with all my favorites from the show and everyone was amazingly nice. Ty asked me after the matinee if it was my 3rd time seeing the show (he's got a great memory - because I only went to the stage door twice before that - even though I saw the show another time back in Feb) Michael, I found is a VERY good signer - it's a shame that the only time he gets to sign in the show is when he's wearing that hood over his head, and we don't really know it's him.

I'm sad that I won't be able to see the show after this, but SO glad that I made the trip to see it - it was VERY worth it! :)

If anyone is interested, I've put up some photos on Facebook (too tired to try to upload them here... sorry). Hope you've all had a nice weekend!! I'm off to spend time with my hubby and fuzzy dog! :) HUGS!!

Glad you had a great time! Did you notice that Michael spit at Ty when he was carried away? He didn't do it during the preview and I noticed it last time I saw.

I did notice that Michael spit at Ty! I also noticed that he screamed LONG after he was taken off-stage... LONG after, I mean he was still screaming when the action turned back to Ty & Ty. :) I also loved his facial expression as he lounged in the throne while he was hearing Dan's petition when he said, "Pfft! We don't need an army!" Tooo cute!

I am looking very forward to my weekend. I just got an e-mail from the Center Theatre Group reminding me I have tickets to Pippin. Like I would forget!!

Have I told you how truly envious I am of your Pippin icons? I need me one of those. :-)

I will be sure to post my thoughts when I get back from LA. It will be a lovely break right before a really stressful time at work.

Hope you're continuing to feel better!
