I'm SO addicted to self serve, frozen yogurt places...
...this past weekend, Mark & I tried a relatively new frozen yogurt place near my office - Orange Tree. It's a self serve place that has about a dozen different exotic flavors of frozen yogurt that you can try - from the usual - chocolate and vanilla, to the creative - cheesecake, to the exotic - lychee and taro. :)

All the toppings are also self-serve (which is nice - have you ever wished that coldstone put just a bit more crushed brownies into your ice cream?) and range from fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, etc.) to candy bits, to crushed cookies... SO delicious!! My favorite topping is definitely the tiny bits of MOCHI - I can't describe how wonderful it is... It really is the best topping there is!!

Mark getting his Cheesecake yogurt! :)

The whole thing is weighed and that's how the price is determined. It was SUCH a fun and wonderful experience that Mark & I are definitely going back there soon! But before we do, we want to try Yogurtland - which is very similar, but much more well known in the islands.

I think I've become addicted to self-serve yogurt places!! :)

Until recently we didn't have many places like this here either!! I've been telling Mark that it's a bit healthier than hitting the Coldstone... but only a bit! ;)

Out here there is also Soy-gurt which I love, too.

Oh Soy-gurt!! Sounds yummy!! :)

We went to a place like that for the first time every last night too! It's called Nubi Yogurt and they had taro and lychee as well as some of the more typical flavors. OH MY GOD. We had so much fun making our frozen yogurt! :) Mine was PERFECT.

Oh and I told Joe we're headed to Sac that weekend you're going to be there. :) He is excited - well as excited as he gets about meeting people he doesn't know. Haha!

Ohhh!!! Sounds SO delicious!! What flavor did you try?? Next time I go, I'm going to be a bit more adventurous... this time I stuck to the traditional chocolate. :)

YAY about getting to see you and Joe in May!! :)We'd LOVE to grab lunch or brunch or something that Saturday (the 23rd, I believe??) if you're free! Please let us know!! :)

I had chocolate too and plan to be more adventurous next time too. :) Joe had Lychee with mangoes or something.
What kind did Mark get?

I have it marked in my datebook that you'll be in Sac that day and we plan to meet you. I wonder if there are still any of their Mongolian bbq places there - you could find something there, right? (I don't know how strict you are with things like the grill surface having had meat products cooked on it.) I can't wait to meet you guys! Maybe after lunch Joe and Mark could go get geeky and we could get our toes done. :D

Mark got the Cheesecake yogurt with coconut, and chocolate sauce and chocolate chips. I think he's going to try a fruitier yogurt next time... He was eyeing the kiwi while we were there. ;)

And yay about the lunch! Not too sure about Mongolian Beef places since I haven't been to one at all... But Mark & I are definitely looking forward to meeting you both!!

The Mongolian BBQ places are not all meat. :) You basically put all the veggies, noodles, meat (if you choose meat) in a bowl. You make your sauce and put it on then you hand your bowl over to one of the cooks who cooks it in front of you on a huge grill. It's really tasty, but I am not sure if there are any in Sac anymore anyway. I can ask my sister about lunch suggestions since 1/2 her household is vegetarian.

They had "birthday cake" flavor at the yogurt place we were at.

Oh, I've been to places like that before - I think we have variations of them out here (though we refer to them differently). I'm not picky when it comes to food (though I don't eat meat) and I can usually find something to eat anywhere. And if I recall, there were a lot of great eating places in Sacramento when I was there for Music Circus a couple of years ago. I think we'd be fine with mostly anything.

mmm. I should head downtown to tangysweet while the weather is this egregiously hot. (tangysweet is the local DC version of Pinkberry.)
Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on April 28th, 2009 04:14 pm (UTC)
Tangysweet sounds great!! And ahhh Pinkberry!! Sadly, we don't have one here either. :(
there would never be anyone for me but you: nuke3jessnic85 on April 28th, 2009 06:35 pm (UTC)
Oh, YUM! :) That sounds absolutely delicious! :D I don't think we have any frozen yogurt places around here. Guess we'll just have to stick with Coldstone! ;) (Although that Orange Dream we had at Jamba Juice was SOOOOOO good! I want to go back for another one!)

Sheri: Sheri - yahoo iconshutterbug93 on April 29th, 2009 05:29 am (UTC)
No frozen yogurt places there? That's really a shame! :( I love frozen yogurt much more than ice cream - and feel less guilty about eating it. ;) And Jamba is a great way to get my smoothie fix, but I also love Robecks. :)

We have so many froyo places here. I'm glad you finally got to try it out. I really is fun to make your own and then even better to eat it. :) YUMMY!!!

Sheri: Sheri Mangashutterbug93 on April 29th, 2009 05:31 am (UTC)
You are so lucky that you live so close to a Yogurtland!! There is one rather close to where I work as well (I have two great yogurt places near me!!) I think I have to control myself or I'd go there for lunch everyday! :D

That sounds delicious and interesting too. Sadly we don't have such self-serve yogurt places. Mark looks great and also like he has fun and will enjoy his Cheesecake yogurt. :)

It was very delicious!! I just love frozen yogurt AND the mochi topping was one of the best things I've ever eaten!! :) And Mark was so excited about the Cheesecake yogurt - and really enjoyed it, too! :)
